Am in the process of fitting new sprockets and a chain to my bike and have got to point where I now fit the new rivet link. In the small bag that contains the link and xrings, I didnt find the small sachet of grease that I thought normally came with the chain kit. The actual chain is covered in sticky whiteish grease as are the link components. Do you reckon the smear of grease that is on the joining link will be sufficient?

Just smear as much spooge off the new chain as you can onto the new pins. Their is bugger all clearance so once you put the rings on and push the link together the excess pushes out anyway.
Well, that's what I would do.

I would do but had the old prostate out last year and only have a dry cough now. No mess Charlie. You would think the missus would appreciate it but no, got told to buy a new helmet instead.

So are you using a kit to smear over the rivet link? Gives you a nice feeling.

Make sure to grease the o-rings or whatever they are.
