Hi team,

Just purchased a 2021 CBR650R, to be honest it was a pretty spontaneous buy with the intention of derestricting it but now I'm not so sure.

The derestricting part is easy, it's more the insurance side of things that I want your help with.

I realise that for the most part no one will really know you've changed anything but I have spoken with many people who seem to think that if you're on your full licence you can remove the restrictions and some insurance companies will insure you.

Is this true? Has anybody had this experience?

Secondly, is it possible to get a LAMS bike reclassified? If so how?

Thanks

It would be perfectly sensible to presume this, since a fully licenced rider is permittet to ride whatever they choose.
A rider with a restricted licence would have to have a "neutered" bike with less power - hence the raison d'etre of the "lams" system. An insurance company should only require the rider's licence category to know what bikes they can operate.

As for the bike itself, presumably there will be some sort of process to remove the physical power restriction and get the paperwar changed to reflect this.
