Robbie gets caught out at 95kph in a 70kph area. "I didn't see the sign" he said. That's original. Lucky it wasn't a bike he didn't see

I read 97 in a 70. If he didn't see the sign I think they should do him for something else too. Sometime along the lines of "inattentive driving", or something like that. hahahaha

I agree and he didn't try to intimidate the constable, an improvement on his predessesor's performance.
So far it has been handled well but I would like to see a follow-up story in a few months to see how the ticket-writer's career is going...

Dangerous driving with intent to kill or maim. That's how the law tries to make us feel anyway. "Speeders are killing us".

Imagine the look you'd get if you pulled the old "I didnt see the speed sign" excuse, you be crucified on the spot. I have a friend who is a senior seargent on Aucklands motorway patrol, and have been out on duty with him heaps, and it gave me a very new perspective of the law in general.
This aside, I don't think the police should consider themselves above the law in anyway, when that happens, you have potential for disaster.
Tis a bit funny though eh, NZ's top cop nailed for speeding, hahahahahaha.

What a way to retire from the Police Force(retiring Police Comissioner), to get a ticket for "not seeing" a sign reading 70km and caught doing around 95 or 97kmph.
So what will the fine for that be?
Doing 25 or 27 km over the limit.
How many demerit points will he loose as well?
At least he was upfront about it all.
I hope the cop who busted him, doesnt get a hard time for doing his job.
After all thats what his boss (Retireing Police Commisioner) says he must do, bust speeders.

Thye difference is ole robbies fine wouldnt make a dent in his loose change .....a solo mum ...pinged for 60 in a 50 ...would be shafted for a week or two paying that one off ...
What ever happened to that guy who just said Sod it I aint paying ,,and had about 90 k owing to the court ???
The whole revenue grabbing is wrong and another blatant lie ......

robbie robinson is one of the good guys. sure he is a politician, but he wasn't adverse to turning up at a police station in rugby gear and having a run with the troops. he will be missed by many when he retires, and i think that he will be difficult to replace.
the cop that gave him the ticket is brave, but should be commended for doing his job under very difficult circumstances.
a mate of mine (who died back in 96 in a rafting accident), when he was a junior detective constable, refused to let the district commander into a murder scene in his home town, as the DC's name wasn't on the list of 'authorised people'. huge respect for that after the commotion died down, and the DC mentioned the incident at the funeral.

Why would Robson receiving an offence notice be instant media notification?
How would the media know this? Was a member of the media traveling with him? Who's advantage was it that they knew? Something stinks here.
The offence took place at Maheno, North Otago and he was driving a rental car! So who told the bloody Media.? Suspicious John.

Yep it's good to see even the big guy at the top of the cop food chain can take responsibility for his inattention to the road...
tho i guess he could easily afford the fine...
Small price to pay to let everyone know that he won't intimidate his wee boys in blue...
Nice to see we are all human.

The fine will be nothing to a bloke on his salary, what hurts the most is the "name and shame" on national TV. Oldrider makes a good point - how the heck did the media find out? (considering where he got the ticket)

I thought speeding fines were expensive in NZ ,,,they expotential ??? Anyway its sort of missing the point of me thread ,,,but ,,there you go ..
But I do love those replys ..YES there ARE one or two rat bags who have kids and do jack all ...dumb breeding dumb ..( we all know one or 2 ) .BUT a lot of ( not Just solo mums either ) people are in the boat of having jack all comming in ,,,For example when I did my engineering ,,,I had to take extra lessons ..cos I aint that smart ,,,.....During the school term ,,You had NO time to work as.,... I dont know about anyone else ,,, most nites I was up into the wee hours trying to understand what I had been given earlier in the day !
So you HAD to live on what you recieved ,,,and if anything untoward happened ....You were shafted ,,,,financially ....( I sold my house to clear the debts I occured ,)
SO ,,,30 dollars to someone who hasnt 30 dollars is a lot of money ...10 bucks a week is Still a pain in the arse ...
At least he came clean ,,,but as was pointed out ,,HOW did the press find out ???
A carefully released leak to show how Human / fair the police are ???
I dont know but ,,,as was said some thing fishy is going on ....

Wouldn't surprise me if Robson himself (or at least someone in the cop shop) told the media.
May be slightly embarassing for Robson, but at least the police can point to it next time they're accused of being unfair.

Like the cop that effectively got Doone out of the job, he'll never have to buy his own beer in the canteen ever again.

Robs own office would have released the info to the media. They see it as being better to be up front with information rather than having the media find out through other means only to have a minor incident blow up into a media scandal.
The same logic was applied to the e-mail thing, they lost heaps of respect from within but the media attention only lasted a couple of days.

What is that all about?, pic's being sent through the system?...I am sure this subject goes back many month's,if the material was that bad to the extent that it was deemed a criminal act something would have been done immediately..or is this a case of tree huggers now running your system

So cunning infact you can pin a tail on it and call it a weasel..................

Well this whole thing just shows that:
1. Speed limit signs are bloody useless. There's not enough of them and they always obstructed by something
2. The officers are so serious about filling their quota that they'll even dob in the boss

What mean cop would intentionly damage an artistic picture of a girl's head? The cop should have aimed 45 cm lower and turned the prick into a girl.

Jeez guys get over it.
It's obviously easy to stuff up there. Robbie did, he got stopped, ticketed, took it on the chin and paid up.
Same as what anyone else should do.
And the DominionPost said the fine was more like $260, not $30.
Same as what I would have got.
If his own office released the info, it was the right thing to do.
Good on him for accepting it, paying the fine and moving on.

About 300 police staff, (sworn & non-sworn, male & female) had some form of porn in their email system in October 2004 when they did a system wide check. About 6 out of the 300 had material that was objectionable and may face criminal / disciplinary action. The other 294 people got a stern (PT) telling off and that was the end of it.
The majority of the material was just the sort of gags and humour that gets posted on here all the time. It was considered by many inside the police to be a storm in a teacup and the bosses lost respct by taking it to the media the way they did.
However, the bosses justified their actions by claiming that the resulting media interest in the story was minimal and that this wouldn't have been the case if the story had been leaked through other means, thus giving the media a scoop story that they would have played out for as long as possible.

Here's one little problem with the Witch Hunt relating to this.... if you were sent a email (containing something that might or might not be deemed objectionable) it among dozens of others was forgotten about due to simply being busy and not deleting it... you just became one of the offenders with a twist, you are not a nark so take it on the chin, the sender covers their own arse. :niceone:
