In my local paper.
As July draws closer thousands of Kiwis are getting ready to take up the challenge to put down the drink.
In 2021 a record of 8600 New Zealanders signed on to give up the booze for a good cause. 2022 could be the biggest Dry July Ever.
It seems globally the sober curious movement is growing.
THIS MUST BE RESISTED.
Fuking slackers!
Jesus fuk Krist, did our good lord(s) Ian Morris, and Sir David not say: Forget about the Last One?
See you on the other side.
God is it morning already?
Order me some bacon.

Oh dear.... Aunty Jackie isn’t playing nicely this week Dave... a new 6% excise tax kicks in....
On the plus side with all the hairy feminists on sex strike that means only the good Sheila’s will be out at the pub so less beer googles needed to take something home lol

Jeez that songs brings back some memories of the wild end of season parties at The Hermitage Hotel, Mt Cook.

Yeah, I bought forward a purchase to top up my (small) stock of amber fluids from Scotland and Barbados in order to beat the increase in excise tax.
Next perhaps a top up of reds?
I'm still wondering why a tax increase was considered a good idea during a period of problematic inflation?
We here don't need to worry about such mundane concerns though, we can go for a ride.

What a fantastic idea. Out on the Trials bikes tomorrow for some variety and very much looking forward to it.

One of the advantages to not being a regular drinking, I still have a bottle of Vodka un-opened waiting for an occasion.
Also - Tax hikes when everyone is struggling with the cost of Living - is this being 'Kind' or is this being 'Cunts'?
I know which I think it is...

Im gonna throw a curveball in the mix... given the harm we know alcohol causes when misused and likely more by the poorer members of society... it could be a desperate attempt to show a measurable improvement in lessening burden on health services and making the new health restructuring look successful....
I’d contend that people who can afford alcohol can afford a 6% hike so really it’s just a shameless tax grab. Although I suspect it Will fuel the teenage ram raiders another notch though....

Interesting and Cynical.... But I can't grant that the current Government has that much foresight....
It's just more Tyrannical Mothering of the population because we poor babies don't know what's good for us, but Mummy knows best.

I'd contend further that the people who can least afford the Hike, will still want their booze and so will go-without in other, more necessary areas.
Wonder what impact this will have on South Auckland Gang Violence...
I will put forward another idea. With all the shit and depressing news the world is having to digest these days, perhaps allowing us to chill out and relax when needed over a few ales and wine is not such a bad thing. Ukraine this, China that, Covid here, flu there, climate crisis over there, ram raids here, inflation on the rise. We all could do with a reasonably priced drink please.:drinkup::drinknsin Where's the humanity!

Wonderful idea Mark, I'll vote for you as ruler of the world. I'd do it, but I'm a bit busy with tax forms and so forth.

Only made it half way through. Kept getting distracted by that awful Castlemaine piss. That stuff almost got me into minor trouble once. I'd come back from a trip to Brisbane and sent an email to my God daughter, a teacher, in which I commented on the terrible XXXX beer.
She had to go to the IT person to read her email. The school software had seen the reference to XXXX beer and decided the email was porn. Just as well I hadn't emailed about my trip to Scunthorpe.

Spam filters can be funny like that.
Once had a Marine company complaining about blocked email.
They were repairing a set of Bow Thrusters.

Picture is too big to post from phone without calisthenics.
Sufficient to sat the I'm having a left over. Waste not want not.
Santa's stuck in MIQ. 440 Behemoth .
Heavily Hazy. Still real good despite not being fresh.
Here's to your dry July. Well, dry enough to ride tomorrow.
Out on the Trials bikes tomorrow. If you haven't tried, you really must.
Local club seems to be grey hairs and grandkids. Bet those kids will make something of themselves if they keep it up. . . and you are allowed to use enough electricity to power a motorcycle in 2035.

I've had a day Trials riding, then driveway hedge trimming with cutter on a pole.
Tired but happy.
Had a Garage Project Golden Path. Still sounds like some perversion. Bit of a mild beer.
Then Something Hoppy. But about to move onto a Slingshot Lounge. American Amber Ale. Whatever that is.

Coming to the end of a dry July that has been rather a cruel joke for some. We've been lightly affected here but tomorrow isn't looking good and Sunday is Church day (anything involving 2 wheels, nothing involving asking forgiveness from a spiritial pedophile) .
Garage day I feel.
Tonight is a starter of Emerson Kaleidoscope and onto Lid Ripper. One of the original Hazys in NZ. Sadly without the signature removable lid. But a glass will suffice.
