Is it a Fram ? While I've never had one do it, a minute's googling suggests they have a reputation.

Otherwise make sure the lines and passages from the tank to pump are clear and free flowing. Don't forget any tank breather too.

this Buell is the Rotax engine so wet sump, all internal, will dissect the filter tomorrow to check its not blocked, yeah googling shit shows it happens.

If I were you I'd walk it past Greg. I think 4 strokes are the work of the devil, so there might be some exorcism to be done.

1/ I'm no longer local to him
2/ i don't have a workshop
3/ Forums are the limit of my engagement now

And 4/ The few Rotax I've done, I didn't like.

He's quite capable of putting his little fingers in oil passages to check they're not blocked. I would also look at the crankcase breather system as they've become ridiculously convoluted to avoid any nasties escaping. Which can also stop air getting in.

Ahh, there you go, that was all I was expecting, some ideas borne of experience.

A mate has a couple of Rotaxs and they are very appealing. But they dont have any oil passages particularly, or oil filters, or crankcase breathers beyond a piece of tube. :woohoo:

Every cartridge oil filter I have ever seen has incorporated a bypass valve specifically for the purpose of allowing oil to flow even if the filter gets completely clogged with dirt / debris working on the basis that dirty oil is preferable to no oil

There should be a bypass valve somewhere. Might pay to check it.

I'm told it's an exhaust sensor on the two strokes which fails and can kill you. And has killed a few too.

The 4T's are simply built to a price. Try and get any more HP out of them and you find where they have skimped.

I would suspect the filter medium/ paper,I Have seen hydraulic filters do that. Either the medium is of lesser than spec, ie non genuine, or an additive in the system blocked the medium.(Abig problem causing cavitation, and early hyd pump failure).
Side note about "Fram" filters. An American company compared Fram filts, with genuine Harley filts, and found the new style Harley filts of much less quality , athough the older style filters from circa early 2000's made by Harley, were much better. Fram came out on top. (can't remember the company, but they are well resected in the industry.

I had another look at the photos. The filter material looks unusual, not like the usual filter paper in the cartridge filters I use.

Did the new one have any markings that might suggest who made it?

I'm sure you're going to ask at the rally if anyone else has had this happen......
