NZ is a small place, so it should go without saying the kiwi biker community is smaller too. Facebook isn't where people are going though.

Most bike news and new models are shown and reviewed on youtube by dozens of youtubers. If I want to know what bike to choose, do I ask kiwi biker members or reviews on YouTube?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fET3A_TznCw
If there's a mechanical or parts question, international forums have more users who will provide answers with less sarcasm. <_<

Fun bike clips are all over tik-tok where an Australian biking couple in Pokemon onesies have more views on a clip than this site sees in a year. https://www.tiktok.com/@wade_r6 :scooter:

The reason not much changes is because its the same members having the same arguments, making the same kinds of posts. :bash:

I remember a KB ride from Rimatex before Rimutukas circa 2005. We literally filled the forecourt. White Trash held court explaining ride etiquette. No one listened. Carnage ensue.

Then there were the various KB rallies.

You'd see people in shopping malls wearing KB T Shirts.

There were some dicks. There were some fights. But by and large it was a balanced community and a lot of community spirit. Lifelong friendships formed.

Some people left (I'm pretty sure they stopped existing at that point) and others joined.

Who is left? Those that can take a joke.

One day Ashley (or maybe Fraser, who knows) will pull the plug. But it's been a good ride.

Long may it continue.

Go out and actually ride that bike. I have to be guilty of that. I have two motorcycles and neither are regularly used. I need to spend the time to properly sort them.

But you know? Work and family pressure.

Plus the other 5 need riding and that takes time.

Get out there and stop bitching.

The whole internet is now infected with a pandemic of people who don’t or rarely ride telling other people they’ve got the wrong tyres or their not allowed to own an adventure bike unless they can ride it like Chris birch.
I think a lot of people are going back to old school style, only talking bike stuff to workmates that ride and random roadside bikers.
Cause that’s the best meaningful human interaction you can have. Rolling a ciggie and having a cofffee in rain under a tree at some nowhere South Island small town gas station where you’ve ONLY stopped because there’s nowhere else.
You talk bikes/travels/mods/prev bikes etc and then your on your way prob never to meet again.
No one diesects your bike/tyre/ helmet choice or flops out a multiquote of what you said five mins ago in some bizarre autistic/narsacist fashion cause then it would just be on and no ones riding anywhere lol

Forums in general just aren't what they used to be.

The various science-topic forums I frequent are exactly the same. Few people joining, traffic decreasing. Old topics done to death, few new topics, many competing sources of information or entertainment.

It's just part of the evolution of the on-line experience.

I find model specific forums related to bikes that I own and ride of more interest. This forum seems to be more about social chat on random topics like Trump, Jacinda, 'whats your sickest joke?' and the firearm thread to name a few on the New Post list. Politics bores me personally, I'd rather talk about bikes. I dont consider myself a prude but I do find a lot of the bad language and piss taking a touch offensive and unnecessary. Some of you have been on here a long time and obviously know each other well, so that perhaps explains it partly. That's fair enough, I'm a firm believer in each to their own, but I just thought I'd explain why I for one dont log in here regularly. As you were.

There's only 3 forums I check regularly now, and this is the most active, although most of the posts are in the "political" threads. [emoji848]

It's just how it is, nothing stays the same for long. FB is on the way out - I'd guess at least half of my Facebook friends are no longer active there.

I retired from riding in March, turning 75 in October. I'm still interested in bikes and occasionally drop in on KB but perhaps surprisingly, I don't miss riding. Long term members might remember that I started a discussion back in 2011 on strategies for the ageing rider. (https://geoffjames.blogspot.com/2011/02/whats-age-got-to-do-with-it.html). In my case, it was upskilling with IAM to Police Roadcraft standard which kept me riding safely longer than I'd expected. I'd done everything I wanted to and was comfortable with retiring from riding with no regrets. Having fallback interests in the shape of classic car ownership, e-mountain biking and sea fishing also helped to fill the void.

I've just posted what might be one of my last blogs covering some of those thoughts if it's of any interest to "mature" riders :bleh: : https://geoffjames.blogspot.com/2022/12/2022-ringing-changes.html.

Simply put, being a motorcycle cop then a riding instructor, several days a week turned riding into something I basically can't be arsed doing. Watching people ride like plonkers makes me wonder why I bothered, but I know there were many who benefitted from my experience.

The bike sits in the garage, gathering dust. I had a ride a few weeks back to get to a meeting a couple of hours away. Now I just can't be arsed getting all togged up to go riding. Never mind the fact it got dirty on that last ride, and now I cringe when I look at it.

I pop on here from time to time to see what is spinning everyone's wheels. It'd be a shame if it disappeared.

Interesting. I have been and still am a member of many bike or brand specific forums. I joined kiwi Biker many years ago to join a "kiwi" community. Like many forums there are a number of loyal contributors, keyboard warriors etc that regularly comment or take the piss. Thats the difference I have found between this site and many of the others I dredge information from, and create connections with its members. For every post (unless it is in the technical section) the bias of constructive contribution compared with taking the piss is more towards the latter on this site. Or that's what I have found.

In saying that, people join forums for different reasons so what they take away from their experience differs.

Is this site dead....I bloody well hope not. Not just for me but for all the up and coming kiwi bikers that need the advice from more experienced kiwis. I don't get a lot from it but then I am a long time biker but not a regular biker. Do I get what I need from other forums....yes I probably do which is why my contribution here is minimal.

What I have found is that regular users of this forum are extremely knowledgeable and when genuine advice is needed, it is given in one form or another for the benefit of the thread creator. What have a learnt from writing this reply...

I shouldn't look at this site while sitting in an airline lounge with free alcohol........
I should probably try to contribute more for the benefit of new members........

Fuck me 18 years where did that go????? Made a few mates through here :Punk:

KB used to be awesome even the nutters used to be funny :bash:

A sizable bunch of us had Kiwibiker "Dirt Division" for a few years had T shirts and all. Still have a couple and a flag.
We came up with the flag Idea so members could find our group when there was 400+ at a dirt ride.

Went on all the Mr Moto rides and meet ups at the Sandpit, Kimis farm etc etc. Competed at 2 man events etc
352726
Was a good bunch, still friends with some.

Thursday night rides used to be quite good with a good bunch coming along.
Only ever been on one weekend ride in 2011. 2 prangs that day. Some guy ended up in the drink around Mirinda and another had an off, Said a rear blow out on a straight road.
We waisted to much of the day waiting for ambulances and tow trucks I never went on another. LOL
352729

352730
Thats my SV in the pic.

Then the place went a bit silly with more politics and squabbling over non bike related shit.
Secondly No newbie could postup a question, that they in their innocence thought was ok, without getting launched on by the KB pack. I guess they stopped coming.

So I retired to the MotoGP thread with likeminded people and rarely venture out to KB land unless something catches my eye like this thread.
Just don't want to waste my life posting up shit in threads that don't help anything except egos.
I made a self rule I would never say anything on any internet, I wasn't prepared to say face to face.
Still a great bunch of guys I have never met in the MotoGP thread, the ESE works and the optimistic sellers are sane enough threads to monitor.

AH well it seems to be the modern world these days? Each to their own :). I guess a lot of members either sold their bikes or voted with their feet.

So now I have completely wasted a night on KB sharing memories and bullshit. I'll go to bed so I can get up at 7 have breaky while watching MotoGP before work.
And that's the tail (for me) of the KB tape IMHO - LMAO :done::innocent::facepalm:

That shit would not have happed on a decent 2T.

this diesel was worse than an old mz for smmoke if i have my way its getting a reed valve
So i am going to fab a proper breather catch like a Beezump three. With an external breather pipe that he can see the smoke show in this face and stop the thing...
Its bad enough i spent week trying to fix a back torque limiter overrun clutch that the silly diesel needs when it wasn't the problem it seemed....

That said i do kind of fancy one of those Daytona's, farty noises and all.
I can see why they are so popular as track day bikes. like a modern Lc which is ironic seeing they stylized that after a triumph.

I can see why they are so popular as track day bikes. like a modern Lc which is ironic seeing they stylized that after a triumph.
I remember meeting an attractive young woman at Kaiaua who was riding a Daytona with a quick shift and an aftermarket exhaust. Very nice...

Just to keep this site alive, you want me to come on here and say some controversial shit?

Stuff like "It wasn't King Kong's fault he was on top of the Empire State Building".

That'll stir up some responses. It's sure to get Skoober Steve back in the fold.
