Look. We've been seeing each other for, well as long as I can remember. But I feel I have moved on. I cant see you anymore.
Its not me, its you.
Yes, I am seeing another road, but I think we can stay friends. Friends that don't see each other.

Now you get to see Otaki's backside as you sneak by unnoticed. The train station looks nice though.
Well overdue by-pass. What a time saver.

I might be presumptuous but I wonder how long it will take before they close it temporarily to resurface it? They had to do it on the Kapiti expressway after a few months and on Transmission gully.
If most people are taking the express ways, it does leave the scenic route clearer. I kinda like the charm of passing through the little towns.

You never used to pass through Otaki anyway, that was just the shops and gas stations. The real Otaki township is down Mill Road towards the coast

Nope, both Kapiti Expressway and TG required remedial work not long after opening

he said resurface. They resealed most of not all of the outer lanes of the kapiti expressway, that's a re surface.

Still a good posse for a pie, piss, smoke and coffee before hitting the ferry. Now we just wait for saddle road bypass.... guess once they finish that the rimitakas will start getting makeover.

Not as long as SH58/Haywards.... started 2017, not expected to finish until 2027
Progress is at a snails pace..... 1km/yr for a 9km stretch of road while 'temporary' 50kmh reduced speed limits have been in place for the past 6 yrs

All part of road to zero - eventually 100k will be a distant memory and new drivers will believe everything has always been 50.

I used to hate that bit of the trip back from Wangas the day after racing as the traffic was backed up for several kilometres before it, we started leaving Wangas at about 4-5am to miss it all and get an earlier boat

This is the most likely prophecy in kiwibiker to come true. It’s also the only way ev cars or trucks gain decent range which then reduces strain on necessary charging and supply infrastructure .
Eventually no one goes anywhere we just live in pods on liquid food permenantly wearing VR goggles, about 4-4 generations away...

I went over TG the other day as far as Pauhatanui and there is a left hand lane that has been resuraced .A good length of one of the uphill crawler lanes look very second hand too.Maybe due to the few days of hot weather

Well that explains why so many drivers struggle to maintain open road speed limits (except for when they speed up at overtaking lanes of course).
It's alarming, the continued & sustained damage to those new 'cheese cutters' on River Road & SH58/Haywards.... vehicles appear to be crashing into them on a daily basis.
I suggest a competency assessment be implemented ASAP for human beings... otherwise vr goggles & cotton wool suits will be the new norm.

Nope. All they are going to do to that is put a speed limit of 60 kph on it.
