Anybody recently travelled through the centre of the NI?
It seems the Auckland motorway improvements and the Waikato expressway fully opening has just moved the traffic jam to Karapiro and Tirau.
Dont go there.

It is still holiday period. It’s been bad there ages like any other route with same dynamics.
Anywhere that has a reason for people to be entering or leaving the traffic flow has chance to cause a cascading bottleneck.
Our population has doubled in last 20 years it’s only going to get worse get used to it.

You mean that if you only half-ass a job and don't bother fixing the entire motorway system, the problem just moves to the next weakest link?!?
Colour me shocked.

Tirau now has a zebra crossing in the middle of town. Before the last pedestrian leaves the crossing, another enters it. This results in the traffic being stuck until there is a gap in pedestrians. The crossing should be light controlled to stop this happening, but that doesn't fit in with NZTA's anti-car policy.

Having just left Napier yesterday, why venture North? Went back via Elsthorpe . Great area.

I made a concentrated effort to avoid the entire north island.
It's worked for me so far ... :shifty:

Having just spent 3 days in a short navigation, I'd say that's a short sighted mistake.
You just need to avoid the hell that is Auckland and careful of the surrounding.

I was last there in '85.
