You wankers think your Ford Ranger makes you tough? Yeah Nah
https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2023/jan/25/pepper-spray-school-run-apocalyptic-suv-reznavi-vengeange
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, drivers behind the wheel of an SUV are two to three times more likely to kill a pedestrian in a collision than when driving a regular car. A study in Michigan found that, at 20-39 mph, 30% of SUV crashes resulted in a pedestrian fatality, compared with 23% of car crashes. While, at 40mph or above, 100% of SUV crashes resulted in a pedestrian death, compared with 54% of car crashes.
It comes down to simple physics: SUVs are more lethal due to their enormous weight, much taller front ends, and poorer visibility. While a regular car generally strikes a pedestrian’s legs, throwing them on to the bonnet, an SUV strikes their upper torso, or head, and then crushes them under the wheels.

From the article it sounds like it's most popular with those who have no pee-pee at all, which begs the question, does that require even more over-compensation?

A friend, more attuned to luxury cars than am I, said he was following a late model Maybach in Auckland recently. A similar ownership syndrome? We don't see many Maybachs out here on the rural rump.

I note is mostly the leftist leaning people concerned with what other people do with their hard earned money.
Bet there’s a lot of greenies in Auckland getting on their knees now with Ranger owning neighbours.
I really do love the whole paradigm about how we think we know what complete strangers do with their vehicles lol

The aforementioned friend identifies very much with BMWs. I don't think he's 'envious' of a Maybach. I've never even seen one, nor have I read much about them, so they aren't on my envy list. My Lexus suits me thanks.
If I was feeling spendy though, I'd probably get a new two wheeler.

Sins? Are you talking about your invisible friends again?
Ask him why he didn't stop the holocaust, or why the Christians lost the Crusades for that matter?
And don't say because the Jews killed Jesus, it was the Italians.

He was off on ACC and the other Gods were too busy to double shift. One night he had a bit too much wine and forget to put his full PPE gear on before throwing lightening bolts about at the damned. Those high voltage electrical burns can be nasty.

I've got a client with one of those Maybachs. Its overkill in every way. The biggest Mercedes SUV with even more blingy luxo stuff. It has lovely seats and the best paint I have ever seen on a car. So dark green it looks black, with a bit of metalflake. I think it has that yuge W12 motor too.

my objection to them is the way the tax system is skewed to make them the logical and inevitable choice for urbanites. There are a couple of flash harry mortgage brokers here who have double cab utes as work cars because of course they do.

The W12 was a VW group engine, the Maybach SUV uses the normal 4.0l V8 TT (with the addition of hybrid drive) found in a range of Mercs and Aston Martins.

People do buy vehicles that project the image of who they want to be. An American guy I see on YouTube was saying that the guys who drive trucks in the US mostly live in the suburbs. He himself lives up a dirt road and his neighbours, who might be expected to have use for a truck, mostly drive muscle cars.

100% true. Having spent a lot of my working life in vehicle sales, everyone buys a car they want, even people who don't like cars who will go out of their way to avoid anything showy.
This is why I argue that it will be a hard sell to have mass adoption of 'ride share' schemes. People like to drive and own cars that reflect themselves.

Not to mention the fun times to be had when surge pricing (definitely a euphemism for price gouging) puts the cost of a ride home at about the same as a years wof and rego.

had a client in yesterday showing me pix of a brand new Chevy S10 he has bought. RHD too - converted in Straya. 6.3l diesel. Its mainly a tow vehicle for a racecar trailer. Bigger than a Raptor. About the same size as the Dodge Ram I reckon. I went for a spin (passenger) in one of those. It was cool even if I could hear the dolphins weeping.

For many years I think it has become obvious that Rangers are the threat Volvos were in the 90's.

Without wanting to derail the conversation, the Ranger driver is my biggest problem with the changes of speed limits on what used to be open road.
Inevitably when driving out in the wild you'll end up with a Ranger right on your bumper. It's becoming increasingly difficult to know if you've missed a speed sign and are now one of those twats wobbling along at 20-30-40k less than the speed limit, or if you're doing the current speed limit and it's just an arsehole in a Ranger doing what they do.
As an aside, I have also observed that Holden Colorado drivers have a severe aversion to being overtaken. They'll outdrive the handling of their Thai tosswagon crossing the centreline and dropping wheels in the gravel, just to prevent someone in a proper car that actually goes around corners from passing them.
But at least they're not pepper spraying you I guess.....

Like so.
Ahh fuck stupid phone. Should have had s picture:
For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much—the wheel, New York, wars and so on—whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man—for precisely the same reasons.

I've seen same behaviour from R'Angers swerving to try hit motorcycle that dares overtake them and as you say, overdrive them in a furious self righteous rage (as they certainly weren't driving that fast before) to try ram into them before you can be passed the next car. A mate got knocked off by that sort of behaviour. I was lucky not to be on at least one other occasion and I'm the most considerate rider I know.
If there was a sky father they would be smited to shuffle off this mortal coil crying, with their small dicks their hands.

Followed a ranger driver last week that must have self identified as a Colorado. Remote rural area and he was wrong side of road on blind left side to avoid corrugations and also did the block everybody pass opportunity. When I finally got a safe chance he got to eat some loose chip.
We were deep in log country though and it’s only matter of time before he will be a kenworth badge, you gotta love Darwin.

All for an extra 10cm or 4 inches depending on whose doing measuring although I think most ranger owners would like more ;p
