Watched most of it (except for a couple of snoozes) and I think it's good that it was captured as a historical record, but not so good for the long term survival of the monarchy, due to everybody looking a bit uncomfortable and embarrassed (to me, anyway, including Charles). Some rituals are better kept mysterious I think, otherwise people will realise that it's all just a bit silly.

All the horses and marching in the rain was impressive though.

Well I'm surprised. We watched the start while we got prepared to watch a movie later in the evening but finished up just watching it until they left the abbey. It was not rivetting but was watchable for me as the commentators talked a lot about the history of such things and gave some interesting detail of the day ... rather than what designer everyone was wearing.

Well I guess the joke is on me. We tried to watch, and did watch a considerable amount of One flew over the cuckoo's nest. I know it's supposed to be a classic and I do recall having seen the end years ago. But it was just too boring. I'd rather rewatch Cocoon, but not really. So we watched an episode of Archer and I laughed, so it was ok in the end. All the news this morning seems to be Charles getting married to God, or whatever the point of this all was. Me too. I wasn't overly interested in watching it but once started I was hooked to the end. Mind you the big titted sword wielding woman made it more viewable. Don't they always.

After living in Britain long ago I am a fan of the monarchy, mainly because I see it as living history. History is good, it's important and shouldn't be brushed under the carpet just because some people no longer consider it right for their version of our oh so perfect society. It's still history, with the good and bad, and deserves to be preserved. The idea that we should pick and choose which parts of mankind's history and evolution should be preserved and which hidden or forgotten is a foolish path. The British Monarchy has evolved into the right balance. We try to preserve historical artifacts, buildings and sites like Stonehenge so why not a living link over 2,000 years in the making. With all the depressing bad news we face every day; wars, storms, pandemics, floods, global warming, mass shootings, the demise of petrol engines, what's so bad about 20m people enjoying one day of celebration. Don't be a kill joy, I enjoyed something to smile about for a change.

Hey if you want let's try a constitutional system of Government like Russia, or Sundan or Somalia or Iran or North Korea or Afghanistan or Saudi Arabia. Yeah, they've been well run, safe, stable nations with lots of civil freedoms for centuries.
