After 31 years of ownership, I've made the move from a big whale to (relatively) tiny bike. Was getting some fork seals for the KLR from Macs Yamaha in UH when my eye way taken by a 765 Street triple he had on sale. One thing led to another, I've worked through the six stages of grief, and now the GS1100GK and the GS1100G, plus all the spares will be finding a new shed to linger in and an extremely tidy, low KMs, accessorised up the wazoo and almost (20201) new Street Triple RS (Ohlins, Brembo, etc) is my new toy. Having to learn all over again -128HP is quite a leap up from what I've been used to. Call me a wuss but I've got it in "rain" mode to soften the power delivery a bit. Hard to image someone traded this on a Yamaha with even more power

Did the same thing ages ago too. Went from injected sportbike HP to carby adv bike. Then the first possible upgrade modern bike I test rode after a fair few years of being lazy and hamfisted on throttle control felt twitchy as hell in its full power mode.
Didn’t like the bike for other reasons and a few years later upgraded to even higher power from better manufacturer and all good.
Nothing wrong with using the electronics you’ve paid for of various situations suit. Also those rain modes can be a saving grace if you’ve forgotten to fill up and need to squeeze a bit more mileage out back to civilisation.

The tendency to stick a new bike into full power mode permanently from the off has lead to a few unhappy campers.

Good to hear Pete, I thought this thread was going to be ask ideas. I was going to suggest try a ride on a 765. You obviously went several stages further.
Easy to own, tours surprisingly well and comfortable enough without becoming a heavyweight.

Pete is obviously a man of great good taste and discernment.

Correct. I had a 1200 Multi and it was insane in sport mode. In touring mode however the delivery was very soft and linear whilst still having the full wellie available at full crank. In the loose gravel however the enduro mode slashed the power as well as giving a soft delivery on the throttle. Without that, it was not a bike you could live with everyday.

Thanks all for the affirmation. Fuck the thing GOES. I tried it on full power (on deserted straight road) and had me both laughing like a loon and shrieking in terror so back to "rain" and sanity. I dont know what revs it got to but it does have a shift light which didnt come on so nowhere near redline. And yet it is quite happy at 80k in 6th and which is about 4500 (rev counter is a bit hard to interpret, need to learn the TFT display) and no problems accelerating to pass without changing down. The quickshifter has caught me a few time, I put a little load under the gear lever in anticipation of clutch shifting and - zip it's already in the next gear. Looking forward to a few days away but I will have to earn to pack better. The old GK made me lazy in that respect - open the trunk and panniers, throw everything in. But i think I am going to be quite happy from here on. Pics with sons earlier Striple

Rev counter and shift (dash sort of changes colour but who's looking at that speed?) were much easier to read on 675. I run with revs showing numbers.

I bought a ventura evo horizontal packrack system and run the pack over the rear seat (did they include the pillion perch?). Must have weight forward, then the appropriate pack that slides on. After years of panniers, this affects handling the least plus packing is easy.
Do tighten well though.

Very good choice, I really should do something similar but the R1 is just too much fun.

How do you find the riding position?

It's actually pretty good. The previous bike (1100GK and KLR) have sit-up riding positions as you'd expect from either a full-dress tourer or adv bike, so initially I though the RS would be a monkey crouch, but the bars are wide-ish and the footpegs are low enough to be comfortable for my ancient knees. There is no real weight on my wrists at normal speeds. It has been fitted with the accessory screen which takes a little of the wind off. I will be going on a 5 day north island tour early December so that will be the proof that it was (or was not) a good choice. Ive been YouTubing and so far no-one has had anything really bad to say about it. And if this thing generates (for me) unreal acceleration and speed I couldn't imagine being on an R1

If it's anything like my 675, it should be comfortable enough. I've done a bunch of 1000 km+ days on my Street Triple and it's surprisingly comfortable on longer rides.
