Looks like a proper bit of kit. I'm guessing it's going to be mid 20's here.

My 2001 (bought brand new) R6 is now nearing 180,000 km. The R9 (with its loads of torque) could be a more practical super sport for the real world of nasty NZ roads. It's all about emotion. I love the feel of the R6 and want a successor. The more practical choice would be a 9 GT+ or an MT09 with a bikini fairing, but the masochistic side of me enjoys the challenge of pure sport bike touring. My R6 (with Ohlins suspension and re-valved forks) tours very well. It tires you out but it's much more fun than a more practical "sport tourer" motorcycle.
The R9 to watch will be the "SP" version (with Ohlins forks and rear shock) that Yamaha will be sure to release in a year or so.
Motorcycling is all about emotion and feel, less about lap times. I will be watching the R9 with interest. Premium suspension and tires will be the key, as opposed to engine mods.

Meh. Where's the V4 already?
Make it a Cross plane.
What?!

195kg wet from memory.Better start saving... Too many bikes end up heavier than they should be. The GSX8R is a twin but still weighs over 200 kg.

First saw the GSX8R last week and got excited about it being the new GSXR750. Oh how disapointing when I read the specs.

Could have been interested in the R9 but have spent this years new bike money.

Yeah it's all just sloppy leftovers warm up.

Buy a 2 stroke Dirtbike for real thrills.

Fuk yeah!

Have you ridden any of the newer bikes? It’s not the 90’s anymore where the fireblade set that 180kg benchmark. Yes less weight is always good but modern design and tyre/suspension improvements means as soon as your moving that weight disappears.
With the increases in costs in everything I think prices would be eye watering to pay for right alloys to reduce weights significantly.
Sometimes the sum of all the parts exceeds the spec sheet in real world.
Just look at the legendary ZXR750 it was a 195kg porker compared to the 180kg GSXR of same eta but held its own in battle and was more successful on track.

Saw the R9 at PI. Looks good, but why bother with the small wings on a road bike? They had three colours - it's a choice between blue and white/red!

The talk is that this model will be the bike Yamaha will take racing so the wings makes sense from that perspective.

Nearly bought a Tuono V4 but didn't trust myself to ride it anywhere close to sensibly!

You may not "feel" the weight once a bike is moving but it's still there.

The 180kg gsxr750 was 205kg fully fueled as weighed by performance bikes mag.
Say 17litres gas and the rest just lying.
They all did.

Good reason to lie though - at least for WSB eligible bikes.

The regs allowed a set % of weight reduction in race trim against factory stated weight.

So factory weight was probably race prepped bike with Marvics and as many Ti bits as possible - plus the allowable %, plus a margin for safety.

Where the hell will they race that and expect to be competitive?
OK looks nice.

Huh.

The obsolete 600 racing has been a looming threat for ages.

Hmm quick Google

https://www.mcnews.com.au/2022-worldsbk-ssp-weights/

Maybe that's old news and they have just kept banging up the cc . Will be 1000 before you know it.

Some more info. The R9 is based on the XSR900 but with a new frame. The engine is the same, which is a little disappointing in terms of peak power but not midrange. It has all of the R1 electronics with similar suspension. The riding position is a more sporty than the R7, which may be a good compromise for some (me!) but not those looking for a "comfortable" bike

It does sound promising.
