Seems I've lost them.
I'm looking at swapping my GSA for an S1000XR.
When has a plug under the seat for a "race logger", whatever the hell that is.
Apparently it goes fast. The motor is a detuned version of the S1000RR.
Happy it has cruise control, might save me an embaressing roadside conversation.

Well the engine is smaller, therefore it must be safer. At least that's the logic NZTA work to....
You'll never know unless you try, and not really losing your marbles, just putting them in a different bag.

Twice as many cylinders, must be twice as fast, right?

yeah but the cylinders are smaller, so by NZTA logic, slower.

The equivalent to me, of saying to a recovering alcoholic, just one drink, how bad could it be?
Yeah, no way I could be trusted with that amount of power...

I had the Ducati equivalent and have to say, it really depends how adventurous you want to be! TKC80’s on and you can go anywhere that you would take a big GS.

That looks like a practical blend of performance and comfort.

BMW themselves call it a sports bike. Its fellow sports bike cousins are the S1000RR,the R1250RS, and the F900XR .The latter two would have more in common with a GS methinks

For all of about 2000km... I melted TKC80 rears off my KTM in 2200 and 2400km, and the 2400km was when I was running the bike in. The 2200km tyre could have gone a bit further, but the next few days had limited tyre options.
Then an Anakee Wild rear (because Michelin targeted the TKC80) lasted 3000km. :weep:

Yep they dont last that well. The smiles it will bring make up for that. I rode my Multi 1200 from whangarei to the burt and back doing all the gravel roads we could find on the way down, plus a few on the way home. Then removed the pair and placed on my multistrada 1100 a year later but the rear only made it down to the Burt and was toast. I was impressed to be honest that they lasted that well.
But re the XR, I had an hour or so ride on one, hopping off my 1200 Multi and then back again, so a timely comparison.
These are an expensive machine to be taking on the rough but they are actually somewhat capable, plus the Ducati is a lot lighter than the GS and feels it. My opinion? CFmoto 450 for the fun stuff…no comparison

Never mind the motor, you have the experience to control that.
For someone safety focused as you I think you’ll love the refined handling, mass centralisation and better suspension you get as you afford to move up to newer bikes.
And the electronic rider aids that many “ good riders” detest just make it even easier to be safe in bad conditions.
Enjoy

Ha probably sub real 40hp for the 450MT. Not man enough for me.
. . . To get upstairs.
Didn't feel need for more power on roads we did today.

Thing is, I had 160hp when I had a 1600GTL. But it was like a limousine.
The XR has 160hp too, but it's more like an XR8 Falcon or an R8 Commodore.
Anyway, I've agreed a swap, we are exchanging mid week.

I've spoken to a few S1000XR owners and they all really like their bikes. It's on my shortlist for the day when I semi-retire the R1.
