Yesterday, my love for the open road was well and truly rekindled!
Even better, it was a great chance to support our local hospitality spots in what are still pretty tough times for many.
We kicked things off on the North Shore, meeting at North Harbour Stadium. The day couldn't have started any better clear blue skies and good company.
First stop: Riverhead Tavern.
It was a bit quiet, but that didnt stop us from enjoying a solid game of pool and a crisp Heineken before hitting the road again.
Next up was Hallertau Brewery, where the atmosphere was buzzing. We each grabbed a couple of tasting paddles—my personal favourite was the Maximus IPA, a bold and hoppy standout.
With the engines humming again, we cruised northwest for about 10 minutes before pulling into the Huapai Tavern. Another great vibe, complete with live music. They had Panhead Supercharger on tap—my absolute favourite—and it went down a treat. The friendly barmaid may have helped convince me to order a third…
Our journey continued north, following the route of the crow, until we arrived at the mighty Kaukapakapa Pub. It was awesome to see how much life had been brought back into the place. I had a couple of Heineken Silvers—not bad for a low-carb beer—and soaked up the lively atmosphere. The live music wasnt exactly my taste, but it added to the energy.
You know what came next—a scenic ride from Kaukapakapa through to West Coast Road (with a quick pit stop), before we linked up to Warkworth and rolled on to the iconic Puhoi Pub.
The sun was still shining, so we settled in with a couple of jugs. I think it was the local Puhoi brew—might’ve been Tui—but either way, it was a perfect way to finish off an epic day and reward ourselves for the hard work.
