The southern National Drags were held at Powerbuilt Raceway Ruapuna in Christchurch yesterday and the Streetbike Class was won by a boring old R1 with a best time of 10.90 in full street trim ridden by some old duffer wearing a kiwibiker Tshirt :niceone: . Man it felt GREAT. Its the first time in 10 Years i have had a run down the strip and to win on my first meeting was a blast.

It will be televised on Prime in the next few weeks. I will keep ya posted about the date and time going to be on.

Good news! Well done to the old duffer! What was your terminal speed?
I should take the FZR out there one day- bit easier to launch than an R1 me thinks. Mind you, there are those nagging issues with the exploding clutch basket.

Hi Tony. Terminal was 124.8mph (damn mph what is that in real speed i wonder hahaha).
Yea man bring out the FZR next time. The explodeing clutch basket is a myth spread by GSXR1100 owners that hated getting blown away by a meer 1000 hahahahaha. My old EXUP has more than 120000k on it now and it still goes as good as when it was new (well almost anyway) despite several hundred runs down the strip.

11th November 2005 - Friday Show day. At Powerbuilt Ruapuna. Umm it was a bit expensive as it was the National series and i had to join club, pay for licence and join NZDRA as well but it was worth it as the PRIZE MONEY covered all my costs. The club days like the one comming up are a bit cheaper as you can buy a day race licence. Check out the following website for details www.pbdrc.co.nz
Yea just under 200 sounds right.

Hey R1, was it DYO or head to head racing? Well done by the way, drag racing is all about presence of mind with fuck all agression, something I've yet to master.

ET's at track are more often than not recorded in MPH Sparky (I"m sure you know that though), hence why he had a reading of 124.8mph. I don't think he got that info off the speedo!

Yea Street bike class is DYO which makes it more interesting. The bikes get a stagered start but if you pick your time right it comes down to reaction and clutch/throttle control. But if you chose a time and go faster you are disqualified so choose carefully because the fastest bike waits on the line :calm: :argh: . I chose 10.90 because i knew i could do that after my practice runs :done: . Comp bike also runs staggered but it is based on national records so its a bit tougher on a street bike.

Yea but the dude on the Heavybussa thought he would clean up and do did the guy with the wheelybars. Its not all about the time it takes to get down the strip there is the DYO time to consider as well.

I was there too in my little Mirage, only got to round two though, managed to redlight and breakout in the same run, got a new p.b. so I was happy either way :-)

That pommy bike was a crazy bit of kit, on his first pass the moment he left the VHT'd part of the strip his tyre just went up in smoke, after that, he shut off at half track and still managed to coast through to a flat 8 second pass!

Yea man but it left its guts all the way up the track on its last pass. Feel bad for him it will cost $20K to fix that one. OUCH.......

10.9?? aarrrhhh I was going to go, But i was unsure if they would let me run my bike with no plastics, all I had was my old crashed tank.

Well done, give me a yell next time you go out i'd be keen to run the R1 again since doing my cams, my last run was a 10.2

I was the first car out after that, by the time I'd reeled in the other car we hit the kitty litter dust at the same time kicking up a mint cloud

The only problem with me and bracket racing, is that when I know I'm on a best ever run, there's no way in hell I'm gonna button off just to win the race :-)
