The niche markets in Europe can be pretty popular though, if you look at the big scooters and Honda’s own DCT bikes.

But they have the range of an ICE motorcycle....

This one’s pretty cool (https://www.vergemotorcycles.com/ts-pro/) and can do that kind of range but at around three times the price.

The Honda has only a 130 k range That would be ok if you could charge it very quickly. 130 Ks just aint enough .That will only get me over the Remutakas and back. One of the shortest rides i would do in the 'rapa would be 219km door to door. I spose a 1/hr charge time would be doable as a lunch stop

At 13k pounds, surely this will be NZD30k+. For 130km of range (probably less given manufacturers claims being over the top)
Same as the BMW CE-04. Launches expensive, limited range, doesn't sell. Battery tech probably ain't that cutting edge. Manufacturer complains the demand isn't there. Flogs out the stock, stops experimenting.
I have a niche use case for them... but the high cost, lack of range and limited use (partially due to lack of said range)... still waiting. Perhaps the new tech VW and Ducati are testing (solid state batteries) might finally yield some improvements.
Unless the tech is using the likes of BYD technology, the constant charging hurts the battery, and at 130km... you're going to be charging it a lot.

Yeah, it's a tough sell when you can buy a really decent commuter bike for $10k. You can do an awful lot of commuting with $20k worth of fuel. As a rough calculation, my R3 would do 180,000 kms on $20k worth of gas at current pump prices. (Assuming I haven't stuffed my maths up.)

The range is a joke. I can do twice that on the R1 and fill it in 2 minutes max.

I think they still have a deadline for no more ICE vehicles in Europe (2035), might be a factor?
Yes there's no practical use case that I can see for this bike, but then I wouldn't have a clue about the travel habits of the average European. Maybe if you want to look a bit cooler commuting around town than the average e-bike/scooter rider and have a lot of disposable income?

Not sure about the deadline for motorcycles. The number of motorcycles in the total euro fleet would be very small I imagine. I dont think the UK has made their mind up re motorcycles and the ban yet. If they ban them they will kill the new motorcyle industry(UK) overnight

Euro manufacturers will not survive if ICE motorbikes are banned from 2035, so I doubt it will happen as things stand.

Can confirm, electrics with 200+km range are really nice. IMO anyway, have put >100,000km on this one so far.

Am looking forward to the Verge launching down here. Last time I asked a rep (2023) it was going to be ~2028 before they homologate for APAC.

Europe just rolled back their 2035 ban, not sure motorcycles would have been included anyway.
e-motos make sense now for most use cases. What they have trouble with is:
1. Super-hardcore-distance riding. I can make Welly to Auckland in 10-11 hours.
2. Group rides. Though that's more an infrastructure problem. I've done a group ride, but it was only two of us (https://i.imgur.com/ZkXLLyt.jpg).

Italians sure make beautiful bikes
Not a typo, current dash is 102527km (https://imgur.com/a/mu6jFx1). I got the bike with ~1300km on it in July 23.

not sure they have rolled back the ban. I saw a youtube video where the guy claimed they(EU) would allow 10 per cent only ICE,hybrid, plug in hybrid after 2035 Will look for some info

The outright ban is gone, but it appears ICE engines after 2035 will need to run on sustainable fuels.
My interpretation is that reality is coming, but slowly.

The vast majority of people just want a vehicle that goes from A to B reliably and cheaply; and for most people A and B are only a few tens of km apart. EVs smash ICE at that. Even if A and B are hundreds of km apart there are EVs with 500+km ranges and 20 minute recharge times. Towing, loving the sound/gears, those are niche appeals for a minority.
I used to be for a ban but haven't been for a while. Adoption has accelerated so hard at this point it doesn't really matter if there's a ban or not. Economics has won. By 2035 so few people will be buying ICE vehicles there'll be larger emitters for the greenies and legislators to focus on.

Makes sence I mainly just ride in town. I just see point travelling with no purpose. Ice engines
Are just going keep going electric got its place. There not one answer. Europe thought dissel where the way. Look how that ended with vw cheating the rules
