How resilient are the new safety camera trailers?

New trailers out there, won't belong before someone takes aim at one, or sets out to destroy a lot in one hit, of course there will be supervision cameras worth thousands in the, but balaclavas are pretty cheap too.
Whose gonna be first to deal to one?

With the state of driving in this country it won’t be long before the target audience actually drives into one. Dont think an unattended trailer chassis with new tyres and set of batteries would last long before being rehomed in rural area.
I think they will be redundant in a few years anyway. Digital IDs and digital driver licenses will be mandatory by 2030 I reckon and include auto enforcement just like how your satnav beeps at you for speeding.

Not helped by parking for hours in areas where if it was a contractors vehicle it would need cones, signs and flashing lights and if it was a skip permission would simply be refused. Will be interesting to see what does happen when someone inevitably ploughs into one.

The police have been even worse, but to be fair, it's a while since I've seen a police car stopped on a motorway shoulder at 90° to the traffic just after an exit. Maybe they learnt something from the speed camera van incident.
Saw a cop car 90° just before the Takanini exit (so not after) northbound last weekend, if it helps.

I used to see a cop car parked on the side of the SW motorway, just over the brow of a rise so you couldn't see it. But they converted the shoulder to a bus only lane which stopped that.

Just wait till we get all the other new technology being rolled out in other countries. An Australian driver just got done for smoking meth pipe, the camera only took a photo because he wasnt wearing seat belt.
When mandatory digital ids and phone trackers come out we’ll look back with nostalgic envy at these easier times when one could just roll off the throttle at likely enforcement locations then floor it again.

There’s thousands of hours of Motorsport footage that shows driving to one’s ability and conditions without crashing ain’t at all that easy even in a controlled environment. And tragically it still involves death and serious injury.
In workshop we,ve all used a tool outside its design purpose at some stage and thought oh this is dodgy I could lose body parts here better be careful and had a safe outcome because we admitted the danger and took care.
Ones own ability means little when confronted with someone else’s lack of ability in inverse proportions at a rapid closing distance.

The newer motorways and the ones with upgraded barriers on the side have protected parking bays every 0.5 km or so. It was good to see a cop using one last weekend maybe they are taking this seriously? Four years later though.

A footnote to this, I ran out of petrol on the motorway a while ago. The person at the AA said they treat breakdowns on the motorway as an emergency because of the danger, and there was someone there in 15 minutes.

I stopped as far to the left as I could and waited behind the Armco.

Motorways are awful places when you are at the side one of one, outside a vehicle.

100 kmh doesn't feel very fast when you are travelling in a car, but holy cow, 100 kmh is very fast when you are stationary on the side of a road and cars are going past at 100 kmh.

I worked on the Ak Motorways Group back in the 90's, scared the hell out of me.

Certainly a place for excessive caution.

When my bike lied about remaining range and ran out, I call the AA. Struggling to hear the call taker against the vehicles I asked the call taker to speak up... She asked if I could go somewhere quieter... :wacko:

But yes, the fuel arrived shortly after...My bike isn't that sophisticated, it only tells you how far since the low fuel warning. It will normally do 50 kms, but not that day!

Because that is where people exceed the speed limit, sorry, safety limit.

Even though the road may have a 120km/h design speed, be median divided and have the occasional merge lane rather than an intersection. Attractive if you need to write a few tickets or want to impress the higher ups. Much the same as sitting in a passing lane 2m from the live lane pissing everyone off and causing a huge risk to other road users.

yes. if you are standing on the side of a footpath and people walk past they go past you quite fast. Thats only 5 km hr different. Its the same as if you doing 220 and your mte goes past at 225....seems quite fast.
so yes 100km hr is fast

just driven ChCh to Dunedin ,cop with his radar on sitting right at the end of a passing lane in a bit of a dip, prime spot for safety tickets

on friday drove Oamarama, Tekapo, Fairlie, Geraldine, ChCh 3 out of every 4 cars was asian tourists in toyota highlanders, mitsi outlanders etc, mostly traveling between 60ks and 110ks (usually at the same time) braking at every corner and everytime a oncoming car appears ....no cops though
