Neels cannot get access here, is he blocked ?
Same thing happened to me about 6 months ago.
My home IP address has been blocked from accessing kiwibiker for some reason. I have not been able to load this forum from my home internet since.
I have been accessing the forums using my phone on a cellular connection (dynamic IP address assignment, it changes all the time) or using the TOR browser to circumvent the IP Ban.
I made a post about it at the time but received no responses; I have no idea why it happened.
I dont know who the admins are to contact about it?

Pm onearmedbandit suspect an overzealous response to some spam bots sharing an ip perhaps.

Neels cannot get access here, is he blocked ?
Same thing happened to me a couple of months ago.
I couldn't get to Kiwibiker from any of my desktops or laptops when connected to my wifi on fibre, but no problem if I connected a laptop to the net via a hotspot on my phone.
Called OneNZ about it but no joy.
Suddenly last week, I got access via wifi again. No clue why.

I had pm'd oab and gremlin and copied in the site admin Mr T .They are all voluntary so the fixes have to work arround their availability.
It might be a bigger issue or Mr T might be on holiday.
The adding files has been fixed though, If anyone having issues pm me and I will talk through settings.

I've spoken directly with the site admin and there is nothing at our end that appears to be the cause of the issue. He will possibly need to have his IP changed, the suggestion was to reset his router.

Its really wierd.
I assume its an IP Ban (I have the same issue and have had it for over 6 months, currently posting using TOR), but I decided to do some poking around.
I have not been able to access Kiwibiker from my HOME INTERNET for like 6 months.
If I use ANY OTHER IP address, I can gain access.
I can gain access using a SIM card 4g wifi modem and I can cain access using TOR. When using TOR I share an IP address with anyone else using TOR who is also "exiting" the TOR network back into the public routing table at the same TOR exit node that I am using. The TOR exit nodes change all the time, and I have never failed to have access for the last 6 months using TOR. Sometimes its rather slow.... but, such is life.
If I it on my home internet and PING kiwibiker.co.nz I get an IP address back from the DNS loockup on the domain, so I am getting a domain name hit for kiwibiker.co.nz from the DNS servers.
kiwibiker.co.nz IP address that I am seeing right now from the DNS lookup table is:
125.236.203.172
Can someone please check that???
Its entirely possible there is a corrupted or deprecated entry for "kiwibiker.co.nz" within the DNS tables for some registrars..... maybe I will try a few different DNS servers....
**EDIT** I tried a few New Zealand based public DNS servers, all gave the same (125.236.203.172) IP address for kiwibiker.co.nz; so thats likely the right address.
So, I get the IP back from the DNS lookup, but, usuprisingly the ping times out with no returns of any kind (server at 125.236.203.172 is dead or my ping isnt reaching it)
So I run a trace-route.
Image attached.
As you can see, it doesnt get very far, I live in the United States, California. The trace makes it out of my ISP (Frontier), into Level3 Edge router in SanJose California, and dies right there.
As soon as I get out of my ISP the packets are blocked or dropped on their way to kiwibiker.co.nz (125.236.203.172).
That IS consistent with an IP ban for my IP at the kiwibiker.co.nz domain....

Confirm ip address from within NZ but timeout
Admins-iMac:~ admin$ ping kiwibiker.co.nz
PING kiwibiker.co.nz (125.236.203.172): 56 data bytes
Request timeout for icmp_seq 0
Request timeout for icmp_seq 1

Thanks for the information. All of this is above what we as moderators can access, I have asked the site admin to look into it and there is no IP ban on Neels. I will try to bring it to the attention of the site owner to see if he can shed some light on it. Thanks.

So is the answer to make this site accessible to confirmed members only - we did this on the EngMod 2T Users FB page to keep the wankers ( and bots ) out.

Your IP changes every time you connect to the net, so not possible

Yep, I kind of assumed it was an IP-Range ban
No worries, TOR works just fine for me.

Here is Neels latest reply to me.
" I had this issue before with another site. The service provider blocks a block of IP addresses because some of them in that group is used for denial of service attacks or other types of IP crime. It was solved by the sysadmin manually unblocking my specific IP address.
Kind regards

I've just seen this thread, and making a wild assumption that it's referring to my account can confirm I've not had any issues accessing KB, have been popping in and out from various places without a problem. So don't go digging too hard for a problem that might not exist.
I did get a random email for a reset which seemed a bit odd as I hadn't asked for it, thought maybe it could have been a system whoopsie, but did a couple of things in case someone had got their hands on things they shouldn't have.
Perhaps there is fuckery afoot....

I had similar problems a few years ago using Gmail with a .org domain as some emails I sent were being blocked. I changed to another domain registrar and the problem went away.
There's a lot going on out there that we know nothing about!

Fair chunk to unpack (none of this is specific to Kiwibiker, speaking as an IT admin instead). Some people, especially at work, will have fixed public IPs - I have two myself and have had them for years, but I work for the company that provides the internet, so I could also change it if I wanted. Most residential will be dynamic (their home router address changes over time), so ISPs will allow you to pay or request a fixed IP. CGNAT where you don't even have a public IP address is a whole other topic.
All IP addresses have geolocation tags, ie, we have a fair idea of where in the world an IP address will be. We use this for blocking access in firewalls etc, eg, only NZ can connect to the company VPN. What can happen from time to time is a block of addresses gets re-classified to be in another country (and affect access to services). Common issue we run into is people run up a public VPN service, and now they present as the US for example and can't access company services. Turn that off, and they can. Endpoint protection can also prevent the use of proxies to prevent anyone circumventing restrictions - you don't ordinarily need these for legit services. Most common is watching something somewhere else in the world that's georestricted (like a UK show etc).

Thank you for fixing it partially, I can get access now from work but still not from home. I cannot really use the work access as the business is nothing engines or motorcycle related.
I cannot even access KiwiBiker at the highest level, it just times out. Is there a better place to ask for assistance or do you need any more info from me?

My IP address: 197.89.155.249
There are other people across the world that cannot connect. When I had this issue with my own website before it was the firewall service provider that had blocked certain ranges of IP addresses because some of them were used to create spam, so he had to add special rules to add selected addresses in the range of blocked ones.
