After a rear shock to fit a 2020 yamahaxsr900 i have been told a later mt09 is the same but im not too sure

The MT09 are known for pretty damn average suspension, so why would you?

Talk to suspension tuner for budget upgrade of what you have if you can't face a replacement of a decent brand aftermarket.
