Koni Shocks back in the 1970's could one get them only in black painted spring and body or could one get a set of Koni's all chromed? My main info for 70's stuff has passed on and I am at abit of a loss.
I am in the middle of buying a set of new Ikon's for my early 70's bike and I don't know if I should get them like I have only seen them so far all black or get them all chromed like the O/S shocks the bike came out with?
I really want to make it look like someone put these shocks on in the the 70's(New Ikon's look like 70's Koni's part of the appealed of them) So I want to get it as close to how it would of been in the day.

I'd be going with same look as original equipment if it's possible for an old bike, if the rest of it looks standard. But I'm a bit of a traditionalist on those sort of things, ignoring the led indicators on my 80's bike of course.

Were Ikon's not Koni's under a new name? Copyright problem?

Google AI to the rescue, makes sense when some of the part numbers are the same.

Origin: When KONI ceased motorcycle shock production, the Australian importer (Proven Products) acquired the technical specs and machinery to create IKON.
Design & Quality: IKON continues the 7610 series, which is known for its classic look, steel bodies, and rebuildability.
Modernization: IKON shocks are generally designed to be better suited to modern riding conditions, often utilizing progressive-rate springs rather than the linear springs found in older KONIs.
Adjustability: Many IKON shocks feature 4-position "Dial-A-Ride" adjustability for easier damping adjustments.
Compatibility: While they look and function similarly, parts may not always be directly interchangeable between old KONIs and new IKONs.
IKON offers specialized series like the 7610 (adjustable) and 7614 (aluminum body) for various vintage and modern motorcycles

I feel a bit silly, I really want the all chromed ones as they would be easizer to keep looking good. I try to think of what an enthusiast in the 1970's would do and if they were not all chromed. This theoretical enthusiast could get them all chromed for the same reasons as mine. As there were definitely chroming shops in the 70's, with all the vehicles of all type's being chromed.

It is amazing what a sleep on a subject can do.

I got the idea that Koni's were around in the 70's because I remembered reading about a racer(think it was Barry sheene) who went over to koni's from girling's in the the 70's.

They were Def about just can't remember an ad for them I have a lots of 70s mags mainly mcm and bike. They were normally advertising girling and later hagon when he took over Gilligs koni was about just can't remember an ad for them until dial a rides came out in early 80's. Google ex Stuarty Graham 125 twin that barry raced that had chrome springs he restored it before he died beautiful blue colour.Doubt they are konis but good enough for me.

Yeah, I have been over thinking it. The only set of shocks most people would notice were not right would be a Gold set of remote reservoir Ohlin's. I am going to go with the chrome ikon's.

Well Funny you should mention the restomod option i chose, was a WP remote res with adjustable rebound and comp.

The yellow Ohlins is a but too pricey and too often Chinese cloned for me. Especially for a bike i will never finish (beating Dave to it)

The WP option is not necessarily the clever option, but the path less trodden etc. If i recall correctly Ikon was where i was going to have to get the springs to suit.
Because its a PDS shock i am hoping it will work well even if its far removed and doubled up from its natural habitat.
They are traditionally monoshocks off a ktm65 so damping should be ballparkish for the road doubled up. Well that what i tell myself...7 comp 14 position rebound.

Indeed.

NJB are tye other option in bike mags. Probably super budget for a UK brand.
