On 60 minutes last night there was an item on virginity pledges in the US. Bush's Government has allocated $1 billion to organisations preaching abstinence, one condition of which is 'education' on the unreliability of condoms. One of these 'educators' said that humans were designed to have sex within matrimoney. An interesting socialogical theory.
So they now have a failure rate of these pledges of 88% and when these kids do have sex they aren't using condoms because they've been told they don't work.
Add to this the fact that kids are having oral and anal sex because that isn't 'real sex' and the pregnancy and STD rates for these pledgers is skyrocketing.
What makes these people think that they can stop kids with raging hormones not have sex?
I really wish God would start telling George some commonsense things to do sometime soon.

the whole country is fucked (pun not intended) - i remember watching a doco on it once, they were saying that a non virgin is like a used toothbrush... and you wouldnt use someone elses used tooth brush - BULLSHIT

if the chick is hot i'll want her twot...

and the thing with condoms is that apparently rubber is a fibre - therefore it has microscopic holes that the sperm can swim thru... hmm anyone care to find the figures on that, because im sure that the gap between rubber molecules is waaaaaaaaay smaller than a mini tadpole!

I saw it...

While I have no problems with the various churches preaching their message, I do have a problem with people preaching one thing (God, Jesus and the Holy Bible) under the blanket of something else ("it's cool to wear one of these rings - come and join in the party").

The facade is borne out by the failure rate.

That being said I can see the church group not wanting to send a mixed message... and they simply need to be explicit about what consitutes acceptable behaviour associated with that ring. If Oral and Ananl sex are out - they shoudl say so.

If they're in... I'd be interested to hear how it's justified. Especially considering some of the bits in the early books banning laying with another man, oral sex, anal sex etc... (I forget where it is - Zed - can you help?)
