View Full Version : What's in your handbag?
Motu

These days with so much shit to carry around a wallet is not big enough,so I have a handbag.I'm a businessman too apparently,so need a bag big enough to stuff A4 sized stuff to take home and burn....I hate carrying a big bag thing and it just goes from car to work, car to home. After having my van broken into a couple of years ago and losing some good stuff,my handbag full of shit goes wherever I go.It's hard finding the perfect handbag boy.....
My latest solution is a Fox bumbag,so I can carry all my tools.I like to be prepard mechanicly,on the road,or off road,in my car, wherever,so I take my special bike tools everywhere. In my ''kit'' are a couple of adjustables,a 6in and an 8in,the 8in is a Bahco that opens out very wide so it fits things like axle nuts, and the jaw reverses into a pipe wrench, stubby ring spanners,8,10,12,14mm,some screw drivers (carb adj) spork, maglight,T handle and sockets,MotionPro multi toolkit,Schrade Multi tool, needle nose pliers,my ear plugs, all my cards, keys for bike and locks, hip flask for 'performance enhancing liquids' and my camera and batteries....wonder what else I can fit in??
That's a shit load of stuff to carry around wherever I go,but I need it,I'm a compulsive tool freak. So what do you carry around with you,and how do you do it??

Modern bikes are pretty reliable , we don't need to be as prepared as we once were.
The Uberfarter has heaps of luggage space. So I can carry
Jumper cables
Rope
Torch and flashing beacon thingie
Araldite
Vicegrips
Ring spanner set
Couple of selected sockets and a small T bar
6" 8" 10" adjustables
Screwdriver set
Electrical wire
baling wire
Linesmans pliers
Needle nose pliers
Side cutters
Allen keys
Tie downs
Duct tape
Electrical tape
Length of hose
puncture kit
tyre levers
Water
Juice
V
chocolate
peanuts
Assorted nuts and bolts
Fuses
Spare bulbs
Spare clutch cable
Spare oil
If going on a long trip I'll throw more stuff in
Ratty gets a subset of that , based on far I'm going. Plus a chain connecting link
And I always carry my Swiss Army knife.

Oh , I forgot to mention, I always carry an umbrella. Very useful that has been. And some bungee cords. And I carry a spare key in my wallet. And a chain to secure the bike of course.
And matches and a lighter and some kero, naturally.
EDIT Forgot the obvious: spare spark plugs

Shit,I own a 2 stroke now,and keep leaving my sparkplug at home! Dunno if there's any room left in my Fox bumbag for a sparkplug. The bumbag is pretty heavy now, although I don't think it's got anymore in than what it was designed for,and it won't stay in place....and I can feel the weight as I move around on the bike - huge Tourtech panniers on a 230 smoker??

Have you got an open end on a frame tube you can poke a spare plug down ?
Or poke it down the end of the handlebars like a bar weight.

Sheite! All these last years bike manufacturers have been slaving to shave 5/16th of a gram from the tire valve caps & there you go spoiling their hard work, or at least dismissing it as irrelevant.
They’ll lose hope & give up :crybaby: - we’ll all be stuck on 3 tonne chuffing Bmers.
Motu
Acerbis make a nice sparkplug coverall to stop it getting filthy & the threads mongered by tools mashing into them.

Jeez, I carried spark plugs round on my racing two smokers for years (4 PE175's, 2 IT200's, 2 YZ250's an RMX250 and a CR250) - I never used one of 'em!
Gold palladium plugs, ye cannae beat 'em...

Gee I used to have a PE175. Can't remember ever using the word 'racing' in the same sentence.

Enduro & Hare Scrambles.
I had one of the first single shock PE's - the PE175Z - I loved it.
At any national enduro in the early eighties PE175T/X/Z prolly made up a third of the field.

Little did I know at the time that all these National Enduros I entered were preparing me for a time later in life when I would be called upon to pilot an abandoned XLV oil tanker up a hill in National Park...
