View Full Version : The life of your tyres.

I've just been out shopping around for a new tyre. I've been running Pirelli Diablo's which I'm pretty happy with. I got just under 7,000 km's out of rear which I'm told isn't bad for a GSX1400.Most of those km's hasn't been to hard, just average touring.

Got me wondering, what sort of tyres do you run and what would you average out them?

I run an 010F/020R combo on my CBR600F3 and get well over 10,000kms out of the rear & change the front at every other rear change.

Note to self: start a wee notebook with service history/odo readings so answering questions like this can be a bit more precise!

Nice choice slim!, grumpy if You're happy with those diablos stick with them. They are probably the best value tyre out there right now at $499 pr from cycletreads with a free $150 spike clothing voucher...(enough to buy some gloves maybe, or even a tshirt/hat or whatever, hey it's free 8-) ).
The diablo corsa will wear out in 4-5kms on your bike & costs more $.

Just went through a set of BT-010’s (F&R). Lasted ~10,000kms including two track days. Both tires were entirely buggered. This time I’m trying BT-012’s (F&R).

Most of my riding is touring on a FZ-1. using Michelin macadam 100 X I got 13000km out of the rear. Previously I had an XJR 1200 & got 11000 out of a Continential rear.

What?

On the F650 I run Bridgestone TW48 / TW101. Get 7,000 rear and 14,000 front.
The CB1100 wears Metzeler ME99 / ME33, and I get similar mileage. I think. Don't ride it enough to know any more. :spudwhat:

I've also got Diablos on my GSX1200. They're wearing fairly quickly and I think I'll be lucky to get 7000 ks out of the rear, especially if I do another day at Pukekohe...

Have run 020's and 220's and get approx 10-12,000km for rear and change front at every other time.

My first 020 (rear) lasted 10,000km. The front is starting to fluff up a bit now at 14,500.

I guess I should go have a look at what brand I have as I have done approx 14000kms on one set they are only half worn and they have yet to let go on me (except on paint or shiny steel in the rain, including a stoppie in the rain).

They are prolly not optimal for a track weapon as they are sport touring tyres.

Mind you I am pretty easy on tyres I used to get 30,000 kms out of a michy rear and around 45,000 out of a youkahama front on my old gpx.

If running sport tyres, I would get about 2500-3000km before needing to replace (Renners, M1's, Pilots, Diablos and 012's all tried).

True if you track your bike it makes little difference what you fit bar price and stickyness and preference but if your a suido racer who whats bang for buck I rave about BT010 and bt0120 for 600cc or some 400 sports bike they will die of squareness before they fail a warrent. :kick:

BT010's 2nd set - front 15,800 - stuffed
rear 10,300 - maybe 500 k's in them

SSSHHHIIIIITTTTTT!!!!!!! HOW the hell do you guys get those sort of mileages from yer tyres?????
I don't think I've ever got more than 3000k's outta any of them on the gixx!
On the ZX12 they only ever lasted >2000k's!
The Turbo would be lucky to get a thousand out of it's tyres, but it's a little different.......

Death it sounds like You need some Special KY Rubber... the shit i use, my Turbo gets typical mileage outta tyres, i mean christ the blimmin thing is nowhere near as powerful as these big modern 1000's and they run rock hard crossply tyres! Sport Demons are definatly going on mine when shes finished.
Anyways my mileage.
VFR400 street = ME33 has done 13,000 and wont pass a warrent now, and the ME22 on the rear lasted 11,000
VFR400 race = BT090 front, dont 1,050 K's and its got 80%tread in centre, and nearly bald on the VERY (yes proud of this front tyre) edges, although i think this is because i run low pressure in the front (30psi) so under hard braking maybe the centre cruves up and in and doesnt wear much, because i swear the centre cut in tyre is not worn crap all. Rear = BT90 and that is snotted the whole way around but definatly most excessive wear is at about 50% lean, i think this could be because thats where im putting power on? when im leaning it back up exiting a corner... only a guess. So there you have it, and im hoping for over 10,000 out of my new rear Sport Demon on the street VFR400.

I dont get it either. Between my car and my bike I've just added up my tyre bill for the last twelve or so months: $1800 :buggerd: 6 car tyres, 4 bike tyres that last about 4000kms, and I'm only on a damned 250.

errr, I meant 4000 or so out of each set of two, plus the set that was on when I got it. So 12000 kms out of 3 sets. I think it's the crap northland road surfacing.

Shit, I don't know how you guys do it......I was replacing a set every 3000km MAX...and I mean MAX.....both on the R1 and VTR. Typically rode softer sport tyres as I mentioned below.

Right - my tyre review

Found the M1 to give the best grip v mileage of the lot. 012's were as sticky as hell, but shite mileage. Didn't like the Pilots. Diablo SuperCorsa's were the mutts pearls - but at $800+ for a set no way. I would go the RS3 Renners over the SuperCorsa's any day.

Found I got better mileage out of the Rennsports than most other sport tyres, because there was less block flex in the tyres due to minimal rain grooves to chew the tyre to pieces. Problem is, because of the small rain grooves, they 'look' worn out, well before they are. SHITE IN THE RAIN THO........

Tried the RS2's on the road once, but didn't keep enuf heat in them, so traded them on some more RS3's.

Never tried the Avon's - never heard good things about them.

Dunlop 208's were SHITE - the flat, not sticky enuf. The 208GP's were much much much better, steeper profile meant better turn-in and big contact patch when leaning right over.

My recommendation if you plan on PUNTING - go the M1's. Why?

In all honesty, in 99.9% of situations you aren't going to notice the slightly less grip they offer than the Renners or SuperCorsas.
They are cheaper than most others (esp Renners and SuperCorsas)
You can ride in the wet on them
They have a nice profile for most big bore sports bikes (not too steep or flat)
They give good mileage.
As you can see - I went through tyres at a rate of knots......just my opinion for what it is worth. As with tyres, everyone has different opinions based on their experiences.

I got 12,000kms approx out of Michelin X90.. and the front was about 2/3 gone..
I have Michelin Pilot Sports now and expect to get about 8 - 10,000kms,.. I guess I don't ride it hard enough.. :ride: :scooter:

Some good mileages there , I got 8000kms from a front SuperCorsa and less than 5000kms from a Pirrelli GTS on the rear .
Current Diablo rear has 5000kms and is ready to be replaced .
What I do like is the way these tyres wear and retain their shape to the bitter end without squaring off. Then I dont do burnouts or any motorway miles.

It runs in both standard height (handles better than the ZX12 did) and lowered for drag racing,I've only managed a 10.7 on a very slippery track and with a slipping clutch. Its so bloody powerful it's a handful to launch properly(but very entertaining according to my mates that have seen me run)....But I'm working on a way to make it easier......

Yeh,cycle world or someone (it was a long time ago....)managed a 10.8 way back when they were new....
The Yanks always seem to run real fast times compared to the rest of us....we've had a big discussion on this on the Gixx site.....they've got plenty of video footage to back up some of their times (on gixxers)Some of the guys are running low 10's on stock 600's.....the best I ever got out of the ZX12 was 10.5!
My mission is to get mine into the 9's.....if I can get the launch sorted it should be easy.....

!0,000 out of a rear Avon AV46ST, probably had another 1000 in it. I've done 5000 on the new Avon (3000 touring) and it's nowhere near 1/2 worn, at that rate I'll get 12,000.

How far was the church?
What's your best time getting there?
