Wellington after work rides

Im looking for suggestions for good after work rides in the Wellington Region.
So far Ive tried....

Mangaroa Valley (Silverstream to Plateau, nice rural ride, no cages)
The Eastbourne Run (nice on a sunny - no wind - day)
The Bays (Wellingtons classic sunday drive)
Makara Beach (havnt done this one yet - this week hopefully)
Hutt Valley to Paremata/ round the estuary (seems to be a few boy racers on this one).

Any other suggestions?

Paekakariki Hill Road , thru to Paekakariki and back down main highway to Wellington.

Or.....

Akatarawa through to Waikanae and back.

Mangaroa is very pleasant to ride.

Wainui Coast Rd is one of the better ones in Wgtn. There's also the Ohariu Valley - Takarau Gorge - Makara hill loop. The gorge is a bit of a one lane goat track but it's still fun! Can't think of any more actually.

Def the Wainui coast road mate. Come and visit the Mecca that is my home. Otherwise try paikak, but watch for the fuzz

Well it’s not the Park Royal but the track up to the Colonial Knob above Linden has a bunch of stairs + some sty fence crossings + some areas steep enough to make you sweat, :apumpin: but the view from up there awesome & is well doable after work.

I would recomend a Trials bike, you may find the ground clearance on the EL somewhat of a limitation.

Theres other short urban solutions (convention roads - not stairs):
>> Onslow Rd (from old Hutt road up to Kandalah) is fun.
>> Korokoro Rd (left hand option) is quite fun. Its quite tight and twisty but is a blast.

Just some shorter options. Keep it safe in the residential parts.

What shape is the road in these days?It was scary a couple years ago when i was last up there, and that was in a cage. Okay at midnight in a cage, but midday on a bike is suicidal IMHO. The thought of doing it on a bike doesn't do it for me at all... too narrow, too rough, too easy to get run over on.

Wainui Coast, Paekak and Rimas are my pick. Paekak has rumours of a heavy police presense at the moment (bonus points for some bikers), Rimas I guess would have a few cars on it after work?

The Attackatackers got a bit munted in the slips some while back.

Best done on a small light 2 stroke so you can explode out of the corners, jump the bumps & then stop before the next corner brushing the left of the bank.

I did it in a borrowed Bedford Jumbo the first time (with a dead CBX550 in the back) & that was like going to the gym & having to shift all the machines upstairs (real work :apumpin: ). But at night at least you can see cars lights coming. I did however swear one day I would return with a sign for near the summit that says:
“Have you had enough yet?” :done:

The most scary trip was with an old girlfriend in a car & she just seemed oblivious to the fact that she had to be able to stop in ½ the distance visible. I was sweating bullets & continually whinging to slow down. Lahdeedah, hmm?? :dodge:

Depends if you still have you "L" on.
Aparently LTSA have decided the entire population of welly should have them on. Gray's Road is now 80kph all the way, and the PieCockup road is 80 on the south side, 70 in the middle and 100 on the north (where you can really do some damage)

Makara road is (i think) still untouched by mummy.
It does make a nice ride, especially if you live in j'ville or that direction.
Going from j'ville to karori as an after work ride you should watchout for the sun, as it kinda gets in your eyes and the road tends to disappear in to black holes.
