headed to work yesterday...cager pulled out from a stop sign on my left and struck me. i saw her coming and tried to swerve around her, but there wasnt anywhere to go. hit hre front end on the drivers side...would have at the least taken out her headlight and indicator. got a massive scrape on my left leg, which is also in a cast due to unclear x rays. dont think its broken cos i walked off the road virtually unaided. right leg knee is sore as heck to walk on, so hard to get up to move around with the crutches. bike is totalled...from what i saw of her, the right hand bar is basically kissing the tank. dad said the pegs are bent, and one lovely gentleman who helped me off the road said the front brake is jammed on...they had a heck of a time getting her into neutral.
the cops and ambos arrived within minutes. ambulance staff were great, talking to me the whole time about tats and such.

i wish to extend thanks to all of the unknown people who helped myself and driver of the car and her kids, and also to the cops and ambulance people for doing such a good job. lawrence, thank you for waiting and flagging dad down to tell him, and to brian, thank you for covering for me! katrina, many thanks for sending sarah down and also for getting word to pascal that i was alive and trying to kick. i owe everyone who was there and assisted a beer. really reinforced that there are still good people around these parts!

not too sure. she said she had insurance when she doesnt. 3 kids in the back and another in her belly, youd think she woulda looked better. first thing she said was she didnt see me :argh: headlight on and all that. she woulda been at fault. think theyre going to charge her with dangerous driving at the least. considering i wasnt wearing jacket or gloves im lucky. only got a couple of nicks on my knuckle and thats it, aside from the legs. jeans are shredded, but can be repaired.
cant wait till next thursday when hopefully ill get this POS off and be able to walk half normal again

hmmm, yeh, think it might stopped the knock in the engine at least!!

mstriumph, yes, she can be fixed, but it would likely cost more to fix her that shes worth. i was eyeing up a new one anyway. just a shame, but she can be used for parts. :eek5:

How is your dad and bro feeling about the demise of their old bike...
Since they owned it before you.... and it was going back to them when you upgraded. The bike has been part of all your family for years.

You are right it will be great for parts... you could make a killing selling GN250 parts around NZ....lol.

Seriously, I am pleased that you are ok... and still walking around.
It wont be long before you are back on a bike again.

If you write it off.. dont forget to deregister her and you should get some money back....

Oh no! I hope your leg works out OK. Bikes can be replaced, even bikes with an emotional attachment. Keep us posted as to how you get on and how everything pans out.

Mate, good to see you are ok.

Awesome attitude BTW. A lot of people here rant when a cager pulls out and screws up their life for a while. Not saying that they are wrong, I would too, but it takes a good head to just say how it is and not call someone names for making a mistake.:nice one:

Sorry to hear about the accident. Glad to hear you are not badly hurt. Bugger about the bike but glad you're still positive about getting another.
I hope the driver pays up and learns her lesson and teaches the wee ones to always look first properly and to respect other road users.
Hope u get back out there soon.

yeh, i could yell and scream and call her the worst names under the sun, which i will do if she doesnt at least get charged. did swear rather loudly when i got to my feet though, lmfao. just easier to be positive though. only thing im majorly pissed about is not being able to get to the gym and work. this'll be the most time ive ever had off work. :crybaby: ah well, never mind! it will pass, like everything and soon will be a distant memory used to teach newbies that they arent mortal like they [me] thought, lmfao.

What a bugger, Charley, that's not good news to hear. Glad you are alive, although a bit battered and bruised. What is it with people and stop signs, were they not taught what the word stop means when they learned to drive?

I have to growl at you a little though - no gloves or jacket, and jeans? Tut tut, you are VERY lucky to avoid more serious injury! Even at low speed, an off can do serious damage to your skin and we'd hate to see that happen.

Good attitude - shit happens but you're obviously not going to let it put you off bikes or turn you into a car hater! Keep smiling and enjoy relaxing for a bit until you are fit enough to go back to work.

cheers beemer.

yeh, i know. if ida been wearing my leather pants i would have likely been able to go to work tonight. but with this weather its too nice, lmfao. lesson taught and maybe learned somewhat.

anyone got any decent exercises i can do to work my back while im unable to get to the gym? cheers :sunny:

cheers everyone. :spudwave:

got a call from the cops this morning...seems to get anything outta her i have to take her to civil court or something...looks like shes not even gonna get charged with anything. but she did call yesterday and say she would pay for the damages, which are worse than they seem.... bars are bent, mirror and brake lever both missing on the same side, hole in the exhaust dad says, front fender was pushed down on the tyre, and one massive as dent in the tank about the shape and size of my leg, so that accounts for the sore knee! also indicator on the brake side has had the back ripped out of it, so no longer blinks, just stays on like a light. BUT! the engine turned over and ran...dad rode her in through the gate, then couldnt stop due to no brake lever, and the footpeg is all bent up, meaning he couldnt find the foot brake. also various scrapes to side covers, forks etc. got a guy coming to do a written quote today i think, so will get photos then.

till then, who wants to doodle on my cast? :violin:

Bummer about the accident Sunhuntin, glad to hear your ok though!
Did you get the ladies rego?.... pm me if you go ahead with a civil claim etc I may be able to help you out with info that could help you get things done faster.
About the back, if you filed an ACC claim call them and see if it was accepted etc then physio will be free if you go to an ACC registered place.

Have you got Insurance Sunhuntin? Because if you do, lodge a claim and let ther Insurance company sort it out. You do not want to waste days of your own time sorting out compensation for an accident that isn't your fault. If she admits liability you won't have to pay an excess or lose your no-claims bonus.

I'll give you a bit of free advice. She will not pay. No one ever does. They are overcome by their own stupidity at the accident scene but within 48 hours they will have convinced themselves that it is your fault for riding a motorcycle and being young.

She will not pay you anything unless the courts make her and it will then be dribbled into your account at 50c a week for a million years.
She won't pay. If she does she will be the exception to the rule.

But she won't pay.

the bike wasnt insured either...would have cost more than she was worth. if we need to, we will drag her ass to court. will make her pay somehow...just not sure how really. going to have a guy look at the bike and give us a written quote on tuesday, so that will be interesting. will get some pics then when shes outta the shed.

cheers for the advise, jim :sunny:
