Right I have the escort x50, and its got a cigarette plug. I have a female cigarette socket and 3m of wire. Now if I split the wires of the socket is the tip of the lighter positive or negative? Does it matter?

I would love to get the hard wire kit but lets just say I have more bills than bucks at the mo.

generaly cars are neg earthed so the centre would be pos and the outside where it would mount in a cage would be neg . use a volt meter to check the plug that powers the rader , it should be marked some where on the unit

normally a "c" with a dot in the middle and either a "+" or "_" marking the centre contact or in the instruction booklet

Save up for it. :spudwave:

I got the hard wire kit and it is great easy to install and has an inline fuse very tidy :niceone:

Dude, Everyone should have a basic voltmeter. You can continuity check or resistance check which is which.

When I cut the plug off the extention I brought from supercheap on the of the wires had a red sheath inside. I do have a voltmeter, should have bloody used it (although I should learn to use one properly.)
Gotta put a fuse in, will do that tomorrow, one I brought was fubar.

What?

You don't need the hardwire cord - a telephone cord works just fine, using the middle two of the four contacts. Use your voltmeter on the escort power cord while plugged into a car lighter socket to work out which is which.
PM me if confused.

Wired-up a double Ciggie plug with fuse on the postive led straight off my Battery some time ago so I could charge my celephone on the run (good for those 10day+ trips), so it was A piece of cake Plugging the Escort in that I pick-up today. 6 alerts on the way back to Whangarei from AK. 1 Cam-Van. Patrol car on the Silverdale ramp and the rest? You guest it, all Patrol cars on Waipu/Ruakaka fu*ken Straights (there was actual 5 Patrol cars, but one had better things to do than play with it's radar). Of all the alerts, only one I hadn't spotted before the Detector. Patrol Car in dimp of road with radar on the whole time. The rest (not counting the van) turned on as they spotted me. Must admit that I had the Detector in the tank-bag. It will probably work even better when I sort-out a mount for it>

Good ride then eh mate?Been a looong day. Totally fu*ked (horses will do that to you if your not careful:whistle:). AK and back on "Roxanne", then out in the Ute for the rest of the day shoeing horses.

Look out for my "Hoki" detector mount when I've made one (where's a Billy T laugh when you need one). It'll be choice, bro:niceone:

Sounds a good deal you got for your Escort. Havent sorted a permanent mount out for the VFR yet. VFR once again has rego & warrent which was good, as unlike some others I was riding with, I stopped for the red&blues and will be making a small donation to Helens funds.
Sooo just watch for the Patrol cars that have their radar on hold, or be prepared to high tail-it. :sweatdrop

Would love to see some pic's of "Verronica" (the VFR) all back together again. Really curious as to which way you have gone with her. Start a thread and show us what you have done:niceone:

Didja get this sorted?

As What? says, you can use a phone cable - see my awesome artwork for wiring. Or if you like, I can make you a cord, with the proper tool it takes somewhere between 2 and 3 seconds to whack a plug on the end :niceone:

Be careful - getting it wrong will screw your Escort!
