race parts and NZ laws

here in the uk they are planning on bringing a law into effect were if you are repeatedly caught with a "not for road use" exhaust "smaller than standard" number plate, tinted screens, small indicators without "E" marking etc your bike can be conviscated and crushed. i imagine this would only happen in extreme repeat offend cases but the thought would put alot of people off. At present its £30 fine for each offence, screen is legal at the mo.

are NZ laws more relaxed towards race cans etc or more extreme??

As long as you can get a wof and yer not pissing people off,then yes,the boys in blue seem a lot more relaxed about it.Our laws forbid the use of aftermarket plates though....

slash cuts on a hog might get some attention at WOF (like MOT) time, but the yoshis on my TL were fine, and you can't have a conversaion behind the bike when it's idling! otherwise pretty much anything goes, as long as it's safe.

They’re getting hard on exhaust noise but manly on cars, and even then its still up to the WoF inspector’s discretion, within reason.
If it came to the crunch you could get a low volume cirt for your car/bike as then it states that it has been inspected by an engineer and is safe for road use.
It’s only going to get harder to beat the noise restrictions tho!
And rumour has it that we might be looking at emissions testing very soon as well!
Not hard to sneak past those tho, e.g.; remove the air filter for the test, go when its raining, lean it out for the test, use a cleaner fuel like 91 instead of 98...

Alot of them will pass WOF standard, so they are fine to use. Anything else is use at own perril. However I think destroying a bike is a tad excessice??? :mellow:

I have mates in the UK sellin their bikes due to bein constantly hassled by the police over there for loud cans/black visors/small plates etc.
Over here, ktm duke with a full stainless race system not even a blink from the wof guys, the cops dont seem interested either, bearing in mind there are louder mitsubishi colts with dustbins stuck on the back instead of tailpipes all over the place !, my mate has an sv1000 with race scorpion pipes on it, never been an issue either. black visors are legal, small plates are a no-no, but seeing as noone has em its not an issue.
not had any problems with small indicators, but they are e marked, aftermarket brake lines can be a hassle if you are importing a bike, they have to be fitted with a whipguard and meet nz standards which goodridge hoses (uk ones anyway DONT) try simon at HEL if you are bringing a bike in and specify you want nz standard lines!.

it is getting a little ridiculas over here if you want to individualise your bike to any degree, i like bikes that have been modified from the norm and have always liked the streetfighter culture. a sunday morning ride out 65 mph in 60 zone (empty road), small plate, and race can, 3 points on licsence+£60 fine+£30 for small plate+£30 for race can, this happend to a mate about a month ago thats an expensive ride out plus he is a lorry driver so he has to be careful 12 points and thats licsence gone!

Had the same problem in Ireland with the pillicks telling us what we can and cannot do. Think they would have grown out of that by now...
