Yeah, $2700 will get you a set of wheels. I've got mates that have bought $300 cars that have lasted them 6 months reliably. Check out www.trademe.co.nz for an idea of whats on the market or even www.autopoint.co.nz there are sometimes some cheaper wheels on there.

$2700 shouldnt get you too bad a set of wheels. Just check who owned it before you and shouldn't do too bad.
A mate of mine bought a car for $500. All he ever replaced on it was the brakes and tyres. Ran well for about a year i think without any issues. Don't know fi he was just lucky or what .
Any specific make/type of car you're after?

out in takanini, there are cars parked daily along opposite the takanini vet, my mate sold his ute in 2 hours out there, there was a 94 mitsubishi lancer out ther the other day, 17 inch wheels - for 2800 body was a bit rough but you dont expect a gem for that money

We got our little Ford Laser for 3000 8 years or so ago. It's latest us twice around the clock and it's still good for a few more 100,000ks

There was a $150.00 Skyline that just finished the Taupo Classic rally without a breakdown.

No worries getting a reasonable car for that price. Best to work out what "type" of car,4 or a 6,then go from there.

It depends what you are looking for and when..i split for Australia in the next 2 weeks or so and will be selling a Nissan wagon for quite a bit less than $2700..1.3 Auto, kind of bland but that means no drama.. never missed a beat in the 4 years i have had it.

My husband paid $1000 for a 1984 Ford Laser about six years ago and it's still going strong! It needed a little work to repair the odd bit of rust and there was an intermittent fault with the starter motor, but it's been pretty reliable - got us to Auckland and back and the only trouble we had was a speeding ticket in Taupo!

Hi Wil,
Also check out the Turners Auction web-site - http://www.turners.co.nz
It will give you ideas of what is available. Sometimes you can get lucky and pick up a real bargain, if no-one else is interested in the same car.
