Did anyone see it last night, mainly the chase thru rotovegas.
Now I heard comm's say, if theres any danger to the public call off the chase. And then the guy he's chasing over takes a car while another is coming the oppisite way, he did that twice, then ran of the road on to the footpath, then drove up an alley.... WTF!
Just what is the defintion of dangerous here. Once someone is DEAD!!
Does anyone else see a problem with this or am I being a PRICK again?

It's only dangerous if the plod in the car tells comms it's dangerous. Otherwise it's all on. I saw another one on 10-7 or Mway Patrol a while ago where the guy was practically barging people off the Auckland mway, anda pparently that's not an unnecessary risk to the public either.
Besides, speeding kills so they tell us. Therefore the moment you exceed the speed limit you are doing something intolerably dangerous, so the pursuit should be called off.
At the end of the day, chases are dangerous. But if they don't chase, then nobody would ever have numberplates, and nobody would ever stop. Imagine what that would do to the revenue stream.

THE PIGS LACK COMMON SENSE , ITS LIKE THAT MOTOR BIKER WHO WAS CHASED AFTER THE COPS WERE ORDERED TO STOP, IF THE COP DID WHAT HE WAS TOLD THAT INNOCENT GIRL WOULD BE ALIVE , THE PIG RESPONSIBLE SHOULDA GOT JAIL TIME FOR HIS EFFORT.
POLICE SHOULD BE CHARGED FOR DANGEROUS WHEN IN A PURSUIT FOR DANGEROUS ACTS , THAT WILL MAKE THEM MORE RESPONSIBLE DRIVERS.
AND I SEE IN THE HERALD TODAY THAT THERE NOT ATTENDING BURGS AT THE MOMENT, PIGS ARE SUCH LOSERS

No its not the pigs that lack the common sense its the inbreds that do runners in the first place, if they didn't do a runner then there wouldn't be any need to start a chase. Ok winja???

PEOPLE ARE GOING TO DO RUNNERS , THE POLICE SHOULDNT BE MAKING IT MORE DANGEROUS , CONTROL TOLD THAT PIG TO STOP , HE DIDNT , INFACT HE PUSHED HARDER TILL HIS BRAKES FAILED , THAT IS WHY HE DROVE THRU THE ACCIDENT SCENE , BUT FOR THE ACTIONS OF THAT COP THE GIRL WOULD BE ALIVE.

your outta line, winja. the dude on the bike was probably on p, and not even looking in his mirrors. he had an illegal .22 in his backpack ffs, and the rep back home of being a loser and a crim. do you think he would have sensibly buttoned off and cruised as soon as the red and blues dropped out of sight?
no, he would have just kept on going, and the girl would still be dead, and youd be slagging the cops right now for giving up the chase in case they could have caught him before it happened.

HE WAS EVADING POLICE , THAT HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED. PEOPLE ON P ARE NOT IGNORANT OFF WHATS HAPPENING AROUND THEM ,I STICK TO MY STATEMENT , IF THE COP BACKED OFF THE GIRL WOULDA LIVED.
DONT FORGET ALL ELSE ASIDE THE COP DROVE DANGEROUSLY AND DISOBEYED OREDERS, HE SHOULD AT LEAST HAVE BEEN FIRED. STOP CHASING MEANS STOP ,NOT DO WHAT THE FUCK YOU WANT

he *didn't* kill the girl. should cops get fired as soon as they don't follow an order properly? probably not. with a history of doing so, yeah, mebbe, but I dont recall any history of that sort here.
your assertion that the girl would have lived is entirely baseless. I can just as easily say that the dude would have run for another 50km after the cops stop, because thats what I'd have done.
fact is, the rider killed the girl as a result of his own bad judgment. the cops error was comparatively minor.
you are just coloring your analysis of the situation with your personal dislike for the guys that try to stop you playing with your toys on the road the same way you do on the track.

how hard can a speed 3 be 'pushed' by an s commodore, really? pushed, my arse. the pursuee could have stopped at any point, and chose not to. remove the beam from your own eye before having a go at the mote in your brother's, moral-high-ground-boy.
the rider cocked up and killed the girl.

do the ones through traffic count, or only open road? I wouldnt run on the open road. people who do runners like that are antisocial fucks who should get their kicks elsewhere. my bloody taxes pay for that road, and for Joe Testosterone's medical care when he wraps himself around a tree or an oncoming truck.

It's funny how everyone is so quick to judge here. Those who hate the pigs, and those who have obviously no idea what a runner involves.
A "runner" on a bike usually involves 15 seconds of being "chased", and between 1 and 10 minutes of solid fanging to make sure it's a done deal. "In traffic" just means you're doing it at lower speeds, but not necessarily by much. Whether the cop pulls out of the chase or not is usually irrelevant since they're usually not in the picture by that stage. Of course, it might be different if you've got less than 120hp and more than 170kg of bike.
WINJA, I give you cred in some respects, the pigs lied, they shoulda been buttf***ed for it. But if it had been me, I woulda still been going hard no matter whether the pigs were still in it or not. Of course, I'd like to think I'm not dumb enough to crash just to get off a ticket so probably wouldn't have killed the girl - pigs or no pigs.
What I find particularly amusing is where the pigs will chase. What a Commo driver would think they have a shitshow against a modern sportsbike I dunno... maybe they try it on and hope the guy/girl stops, figuring some will some won't.

A skilled commo driver should be able to cane an average rider on an R1 or gixxer thou.

well... an skilled commo driver will be able to push beyond their limits thats for sure. The rider aint gonna give up because their a better driver, he'll just twist the throttle earlier.
Have to say if the cops play safe then people will run all the time and the only thing that would catch them is a tracking device. If there were enough cops on the road they could plan something and wait for the runners to get caught in heavy traffic or something.
But a bike can keep on running until either they lose the police, crash, or run out of gas. If that cop got right next to him what could he do? knock him off? push him onto the footpath? politely ask him to stop? nothing. It would be almost impossible to safely block him off. Especially without a large back up.

uh, yeah,
maybe if by skilled you mean an ex-racing driver and by commo you mean touring car
or unless if by average rider someone who nana's it around corners and canes it on the straight, remembereing that the average rider is probably quite capable of pushing quite hard for the short period of time that it takes to find an escape road and that they are going to be doing this if they are being chased
dont unterestimate them because they are usually are law abiding and don't like to draw attention to themselves on a day to day basis
from my experience of doing runners (very very limited (don't start with lectures as I'm sure whatever you did when you were young nulifies your arguments)) the testosterone starts flowing and all clarity of mind goes out the window and all you can concentrate on is getting off the road your on as fast as humanly possible
I have no experience of riding an r1 or gixxer thou but if what people have been telling me is correct then they handle like they are on rails and the average joe blogs can push them a hell of a lot harder than you give them credit for, providing they have the necessary motivation.

Otherwise they wouldn't have the confidence to do the runner in the first place.

I'm glad Wgtn doesn't have a chopper. I'd rate myself against any Commo, can't say I've been up against a bike yet, but I've read the power/weight stats and I'm not losing sleep over it. But a chopper? Underground carparks are getting risky, you want escape routes. You don't wanna run the risk that the cops have enough bodies/time to block the exits and sweep the carpark. In saying that, if it's the only option...
From my experience in fast cars, I know that there's no certainty through the twisties that a bike will beat a car. Commos might be fat and sloppy, but there is still the potential that you strike the odd copper who can drive. I counter this by taping or removing the plate when I'm out for a fast ride. That way if they do get close, who cares? I'll just wait for the next straight. How many cars, lights and sirens or not, can split down the middle of a two lane road, right on the centreline at 260k? Dangerous it may well be, but try that in a Commo when you've got one car going your way at 100k and another coming toward you at 100k. Commo backs off until either or both cars move, meantime you're another km ahead.

Oh being able to ride isn't a pre-requisite for owning a bigger bike. I chucked mine down the road after having it for a few weeks due to too much horsepower, too little skill.
But smoking cops doesn't necessarily rely on a huge amount of riding skill - more luck, common sense, local knowledge and bike v car advantages.

With all due respect - bullshit. He would have found a place to hide as soon as he thought the cops couldn't see him. The girl would not be dead, nor would he. The gun and residual traces of speed in his blood are red herrings. (sorry)
This incident was very clearly aggravated by the cops actions as the coroner found.
Some of the other crap being talked about here displays complete ignorance of reality. In 90% of chases, if the bike doesn't get out of sight within 30 seconds or less, he's toast. Any longer than that means the riders not up to the pace or traffic is slowing him down.
Any cop will have stories of catching much faster vehicles than theirs.
We used to catch bikes in our Cortinas and 253 Holdens for God's sake.
A GS1000 couldn't get away from our 308 Ute loaded with accident gear and we chased him from a standstill when he was clocked at 120 k's. Instead of nailing it down the M/Way he chose to head off at Greenlane and Newmarket - big mistake.
If you're going to run, think about your strategy.
