Don't know if this has been posted before but while searching the web for imagery to destroy as part of my design process I came across this website.

Dunno if the stuff looks cool or not, sometimes it looks nice, other times it looks shit, what do you guys and gals think? And would you ever do it to your bike, bearing in mind it will defintely help you get seen at night. I reckon I could do it, but it would have to be nice and discreet, dunno, maybe....

There are loads more pics on the website itself.

meh... I can take it or leave it.
Seems with the advent of "World Biker Buildoff" and "American Chopper" that everyone wants to customise in some way now. Notice I said 'customise' instead of 'build from the ground up'? (the way it should be done)

My girlfriend is just coming to grips with the CBR as it is. With UV lights like the F4i I think she would dis-own me. There is also the "hey look at me" factor that would attract the pooolice on a friday night in Courtney.

I plan on customizing my bikes. Building from the ground up is hard as cause you have to worry about getting the frame assigned a VIN number and all that, easier to start with a frame that has one allready and chop it up.

As for the lights, I wouldn't mind having a blood red light under the gas tank lighting up the engine, but nothing more than that.

Looks good if you wear your jeans around the bottom of your arse and a sideways baseball cap, and say things like my bad and cher bro!!!!!!!

Next thing you be getting a turbo and a blow off valve!!!!

I like the F4 looks niiice. BUt you'd have to be carefull not to overdo it.
HAs anyone seen those LED lights you can get that screw onto your valves on your wheels? :eek5:

What pray tell is wrong with a turbo? I'd love one on my bike :niceone: :niceone:

meh, professionals doing a less than amateur job, and at atleast 4x the price.

My setup cost me $45 all up... you'll see it when you see it. I'll just say that the R6 is bluer at night than it is during the day.

only thing i would say is that i wish the neon over my engine was as bright as the one shown there.

For those of you wanting to see it first, be at Meremere on Friday.

Yeah I reckon those would look trick....in red anyway (or orange maybe....:)). Would help night visibility to other motorists at least.

that would be me, but i wear a belt now, and i dont have decent baseball cap...

as for the turbo and blow of valve - will come when the budget allows!

sure "why not just get an R1?", but which gets more cred? An R1 or a turbo R6 with blowoff valve and NOS  lol

yeh, you forgot the NOS.

Did you wire it all up yourself?

from what i've heard they dont work so well on bikes. My bike glows hugely at night - no driver would have the excuse to say "i didnt see him" cos its just so f**ken obvious.

yep, took about an hour all up. Will sort the wiring out better when i have time to disassemble the bike (fairings and tank etc)

your bike would be easy as to do.

That's one of the pro's about getting these lights, at night you'll be seen from miles away, it's a good safety thing, no doubt lots or HD riders would like it, they'd get even more attention that way...... :dodge: .....those who do it for the looks/fashion and not the lifestyle...... :sweatdrop

Yeah ive been thinking about it. Couldnt find bright enough LED's for starters went to JAYCAR and they didnt even have any yellow ones. Where did you get your set up from?

R6_kid
3rd November 2005, 10:11
go to the great emporium that is trademe... look up 'step light'... you get 3 superbright LED's pre wired in a chromed plastic casing... and for $18 the guy will send you four of these setups.

its as simple as hooking them all up to the battery with a switch in the circuit some where... what i do is run all the LED setups in parallel (join up all the -ves all the +ves) take hook one end up to the battery, hook the other end up to a switch and then to the battery.

otherway is to join all the positives through a switch to the battery, then the negative leads just need to be earthed to the frame.

You know what I mean, not just adding bot on bits to create the illusion of a custom bike build. I suppose I'm fairly old school when talk starts about custom bikes.

I'll just take my zimmer frame over here.... turnips they were.... and old Jimmy Hitler he didn't like that.... or was that when I was 16?....

Lol yea I know what you mean. Not a fan of factory built accesories either but sometimes it's the cheaper option. Also sometime you cant go with having your bike down for so long to be able to fully re-work it.

Well I wear jeans around the bottom of my arse and also on my waist and the parts in between. I don't wear a cap sideways and cher and bro are things I would never say but...

I like the lights...its like having a wee secret and bringing it out at night. The bikes look great on display with their paint effects and crome details all lit up!!

I think this might work best on a cruiser though (I like crusiers so maybe that's why I like the lights).

Casue lets face it...crusiers are so much more than just the ride!

So I vote its hot...go on...be an innovator too...

Next year it will be all the rage :-) lol

Must save the link for someone I know...he has leds on the bottom of his custom painted bike and on the aircaps on the wheel. Love the effect when he rides at night.

Total show stopper and pretty! :sunny: :spudwave:

I rigged four of the 'step light' LED units to the rear of the FXR and it did a good looking job of illuminating the rear tyre and swingarm. I would not recommend those tyre valve LED things as they are just shit - they don't work on bike tyres as the stems are not at the correct angle to trigger the switch, hence you get a flashing light that flashes randomly instead of a solid glowing ring.

I like 'em, they do raise the visibility factor and if done well (like anything else I guess) they can look great.
Not for everyone perhaps but WTF neither is anything else.

Might look good in a showroom or for display purpose but otherwise i don't like em. too much emfasis put on looks nowadays, more money spent on cosmetics than engine maintenance! :argh:
