Gone to clean your dusty wheel??

hmm... mighty wide. Except that you have now proved you have ridden it, but not enough for even the top ones to wear...

Plenty of time to decrease it, be careful with the brand new sides, less grip...

Maybe a bit of wet n dry sandpaper to take of the shiney bits , wouldn't like to lean it over in the wet on these !

Now, if you really want the bike to look neat, you should pop some armourall (or whatever) on the whole tyre to make it look nice and shiny

Don't do that, by the way...

This is how you lean a Gixxer 1K. K5 600 shouldn't be too different. I had a 600 pic knocking around here somewhere too......

Even Nana Jim had sorted that issue out within a day.

Geez that's funny. It looks like you are "unwearing" the tyre.

just don't think about it. Bike should naturally lean into corners. Just watch out i find that for some reason the front and back start to slide a little when under power and cranked over..... really wierd that??

For one second I thaught white trash had posted this thread and I was like 'wtf'... oh pisstaking dover or something.

If everyone was honest most of us would admit that we started off with chicken strips. I still have em, but they are shrinking and any day soon (if the weather settles) sould disappear completely, like yours I'm sure. :niceone:

it comes with time! it isn't how far you lean over while in a corner its the getting to the corner & the punch out of it on to the next one! it doesn't have to be a case of beaded edges which in reality is only achieveable on the very best of roads or race track.

the tyre is a Pirelli Dragon Corsa totally munted in 3000ks from driving hard out of corners!

Darn. I have the burnout/commuting flat centre after 13,000+ kms on hard tyres. My Left hand side has worn much more than the right (steeper profile) as well which goes against the usual road camber argument. Must be all the time I spent on 'carpark tracks'.

The most interesting thing is that my front has worn more off the sides than the commuter middle strip, where as my rear always wore the centre quick as (without burnouts). Says something about my gentle on the throttle riding style then eh. Too much loading up front in corners is going to get me one day...

Just last night I got my chicken strips down to about 2 millimetres. So close, yet so far...

And then I had to ride through messy bloody road works which chucked crap all over the back wheel which makes it almost impossible to see my carefully scuffed marks now... bugger... of course, i could just clean the bike, but shit, that's stupid!

I think taht's just natural on the two five Os...not enough guts to get the bike driving out of higher speed corners, so you got no option but to weight the front end...still jolly good fun to be had though, tra ha.

I was just talking about the imbalance of wear between front and rear on smaller engined bikes...normally end up with a front that's been taken to the edges, but a rear that's not nearly as impressively farqued...maybe if you're on the Coro coast road every day you can get the rear stuffed, dunno.

I think it depends on compound as well and how worn the tyres are. My fronts get wasted while my rear has small pricks in it like the fronts 2 months ago. Might start shredding soon.

edit: had to help the boss do something.
I think Gareth had some gpr70's on his on the same ride and we were both pushing hard. His tyres shred mine just pinpricked... His were worn a fair amount more though.

If you really push it tho you will get past the tyre and start grinding your exhaust.

(the screws are there because I have to repack the cans alot) (and i did clean my bike but then it rained) (oh and cans probably got scratched when the shocks had decided they were too hot making them pogo thru corners, but hey, brian bernard was following me so I had to at least try and make it seem like I wasnt super slow)

Correct proceedure of leaning a bike should look like this

Ive also got dent marks and scrapes on my header pipe (just before the muffler) and almost succeeded in putting a hole in my muffler... I wont even mention how fucked the fairings are...

Just a question about leaning to the racers here - on my zxr with its cruddy tyres, you can only lean over so far before pegs scrape and you are on the edge of the tyre (then things get slidey slidey :/), from what I see, 'other' bikes eg that pic TS just posted can get over much more. Is there much variation in tyre type for 250's like mine (140/60 and 120/60-70) so they can be leant more than currently able to. Different pegs would also have to be an option as well.

What I'm thinking is that different tyres may solve this problem or is that just 'it'?

Cheers!

Depends on the steepness of the profile, im running 160/60 and 120/70 on the 400, and i have to say i still have chicken strips (about 5 mm) but im grinding everything whilst at the lean angle...

If you have chicken strips you can lean more, and when you start grinding, you modify it...

thats a turkey strip! mmm caused by what? ooh maybe a burnout or two aye?

and lets see 16yr old 750cc bike (67kw stock at the wheel) lightened to 180kg compared to what, a no older than 6yrs 1300cc 115.1kw at the wheel & 215kg (a bike thats notorious for being hard on rear tyres) doesn't balance out MARTY does it.
sure i could throw another $400 tyre on a do hero shit at lights etc and chop the fucker out in no time, but nah i'd rather push unsuspecting GSX-R1100s & the likes around tight twisty bends. bring the big tank down to some tight roads & see what happens huh! the power & weight wouldn't help you there!

that tyre was chopped out doing runs around the summit rd & lyttleton harbour bays which is some of the prime riding roads around CHCH somewhere were even a 250 can embarrass litre bikes, come & have a play one day, i've spent over 19yrs playing there so watch ya self :niceone:

really! to start with I had similar *handling problem* with my 750. Make sure the suspension has been setup in the ball park for you... e.g not too hard.

Also not sure what bikes you had before.... but make sure you grip tank well with legs and lean fowards and not put weight at all on handle bars...

yeah the old mille was a goodie ( got best euro at Hororata rally in 96 & photos of it were published in Streetbike mag the same year) the centre stand was scarred badly, but that panel scrape pissed me off, i'd only got the panels done & had just been re-fitted, it happened just by the top entry to victoria park where you come out of the trees.

I have personally seen him keep and with Glen Williams around Manfield whilst WT is on a stock GSX-R1000 and Glen on a full race spec ZX-10R... I have yet to meet a faster road rider (havent ridden with Lance Lowe yet though)...
