Site upgrade (vB 3.5.4)

I have upgraded the site to vBulletin 3.5 as well as all of the addons.

We also have new versions of links (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/local_links.php?), chat (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/javachat.php), etc

Arcade has not yet been updated for the new vB versoin so will not be available yet.

Please let me know of any problems.


If you get any page errors, try forcing a refresh.

There used to be the ability to click on a menu option to go to the home page which isn't there. Which is fine, is it somewhere else that I haven't seen?

Try forcing a page refresh [ctrl]-[f5] in IE to update javascript pages in your cache to the new version.

ah, CTRL-F5 fixes the non functioning editor. Still no spell check that I can find - where he? The undo arrow on the gui menu works, but right click undo doesn't. Very good, give Mr Spankme many thanks, and an orang-utan

I can't use quick reply either, also on Mozilla but that shouldn't effect it, just seems as though the button wont go.

Also in the new chat, is there any way to change font colours permanently? We've found the ctrl+k and then a number thing but you've gotta do that for every post you do in there, tad annoying, and lookin' at screeds of black gets confusing.

I like the overall site upgrades except for the new chat room. I was quite partial to the older system, as many will well know. However after installing the necessary bits onto my computer and successfully getting into the new chat room, I find myself not wanting to be there anymore. Is there anyway of going back to the older vchat format or is it just me?:doh:
Oh and I am having trouble with sending PMs now. It used to acknowledge that it was sent and unopened. Now it just shows in my sent folder and I have no idea if they have gone to the intended recipient. I'm afraid I prefer the way it was in that respect also.

You need to click "Request a read receipt for this message" at the bottom. Since 3.5 it is not selected by default. I have changed the template so now it is.

The old one was better than the current one in the following ways:

1. We could use KB smilies

2. We could easily open other members profile pages from inside the room

3. The time that a message was sent was displayed

4. It was easier to read the messages people typed

5. Conversation from before you entered the room was visible

6. Text colour was easily changed

7. Private Chat messages were possible EDIT: ignore this one, I just figured out how...

The new room is better because:

1. No messages are lost

2. It is faster.

Previously once you had read a subscribed thread in a session, it appeared as read. Now it disappears entirely. Not so new threads, that seem to behave as before.

I have to OPEN a thread to read it then it comes up with any new threads.
Sometimes there is a row of threads that I don't find of interest to me..
Like the JOKES section etc... but I am being forced to open a thread to get any new threads to come up.

This seems a silly way to go to update new posts.

All refreshing the "new posts" results page would do pre upgrade is update the threads it already displayed. It would not add new threads. This is still the case post upgrade.

Listing users in chat can't be done easily with the new chat. But the new chat works much for efficiently than the old one.

Uh, Mr Spankeme, um . there is one new thing that is a REAL PAIN.

The site now logs me out after a (realtively) few minutes. I realsie this is a good idea security wise, and for ordinary browsing, it doesn't really matter.

But there is one problem. I tend to assemble posts quite slowly (probably not alone there) cos I do it in odd free moments at work. So , after starting a post,I may be called off to do some work (damn them) . When I get back, I merrily carry on with the post (maybe being interrupted again) , and finally hit submit.
Whereupon it says I'm not logged in and I lose what I've so laboriously typed (I've figured out a save for this if I'm quick)

Could this be made optioonal, or at least save half done stuff before logging one out ?

Uh . Done all those. I don't think it's a bug, appears to be a "time out" log out. I assumed a security feature. All fine so long as I do something (anything) every so often. It kicks in if I leave it logged in, but untouched for amybe half an hour

There are no timeouts that will log you off. Did you click the "Remember Me?" option when you log in? Even that will only log you off when you close your browser.

They store your SID in a cookie, and obviously there is a problem in that relationship, between browser/cookie/server, they dynamicly load all user data based on a sid passed in by a hashed cookie seems stupid but hey, it frees up some server time.

1) is the arcade still online? haven't been able to access it on the mac (2 macs, and 2 browsers can't see it)

2) what happened to the flame war nominations and champ things that scrolled under our details/ names at the top of the post?

If you don't like it, don't read it. If all of the silliness on this site was confined to the RR thread, then that surely would be a good thing?

A bit more maturity about discussing issues would also go down well, whatever thread debate took place in. I get particularly annoyed when people play the man, not the ball. I have no time for small-minded folks who have to personalise an issue if they think they aren't "winning". Volume of abuse does not outweigh quality of argument.

Slight issue occuring when I load the forum. It tries to redirect to profile.php, then bounces back a 404 error.

If I edit the link and remove the profile.php it works, but next time, puts it back again.

Also People who use CAPS LOCK drive me mad. Surely they can be creative enough to not have to use CAPS.
The way I see if it they are using CAPS it means they are loosing a battle in what ever they are posting about.

Only get it for "Site upgrade" and "Big Boys Toys" Threads, but there are always more Threads in my User CP that have new unread posts from the same time period. Have selected them all and chosen "Daily e-mail notification".

Smilies window now closes automatically once smilie is selected and post updated. It's a bit of a pain if you're a smilie user on dial-up (I have ADSL and even then it can take a while) cos it can take ages to open up that window and I often just leave it open for the duration of my visit each time. :spudbn:

The KB server is in the US. Not all NZ sites are served in NZ.
