on many factors. As per usual, many people, many opinions.

If you use a DIY (a resistor and a few other cheapy peices), it's prob worth it cos even tho it will not increase HP the outlay was almost nothing. If you purchase TRE (can't remember the outfit in the states everybody seems to use) maybe not.

I know with the SV the argument still rages. You're only tricking the FI into thinking it's in 5th gear as far as i can remember, as the mapping for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th is retarded to prevent front wheel from going skyward if you whack the throttle open. It doesn't affect outright power at all.

I remember reading somewhere (prob spankme's SV forum) that the outfit in the UK that customise SV's for racing do not recommend TRE. I don't know why. Maybe because the use PC's anyway, or maybe because it has no effect at the throttle openings (wide open!!) while racing..

Bottom line, apparently the bike becomes "smoother" round town, but it's nothing like you just dropped a NOS unit into the fuel system....

advancing your timing would be slightly different to simple preventing the FI from retarding it in certain gears yes???

I run an Ivan's TRE. In answer to your question the specific difference you will notice is more power as soon as you crack the throttle and a reduction in that annoying dead spot that fucks you up at roundabouts. As a commuter it is a big help, 3000 rpm is suddenly a lot gruntier and the bike easier to ride, wheelies [not that I do them much] are easier. Recommended!

If it's done right it works on TL's,busa's and earlier gixxers so I guess it'll be good on the thou too,and it gets rid of that annoying 300k limiter too.:blip:

Never had one fitted to my K3 and I was never overtaken on the road or at the track.

Thanks guys, it's for my K4, and you're right about the bitching flat spot coming down at intersections. I've seen plug in kits, complete with Suzy connectors from $175 I think.

What's the story with the 300k limit? Is it rev or speed limited, or does the speedo just refuse to show >299? What should it do theoretically?

Most road tests seem to run 178 - 180 mph measured - which would probably show you about 310 - 315k on the speedo!

Not sure on the limit thing, speedo stops at 299kph, but maybe it keeps reving, dont know, seemed to be still pulling, but was too busy trying to dodge ZZR250's wobbling along at 160kph down the back straight of puke.

Flat spot on a K3/4........??????? dont know what ya's on about, and if ya having trouble getting it up, well...............

If i did i'd make it myself, fuck spending $175, i'd rather put it towards a PCIII.

On a side note: Does the wet not count jimmy?

Ah, now I know why the missus isn't interested in a ride. The flat spot is noticeable when decelerating, from say third to second at around maybe 30k's an hour, suddendly there's bugger all there, a lack of immediate and noticeable roll on grunt. Nothing to wet the panties over, but a bit of a disappointment.
