Was splitting on the way to work this morn about 9:15 there was a bloke on a purple and yellow late model gixxer (can remember what the scheme is called alastare ??)
we both were splitting quite a bit before we came across a cage cop, then it all came to halt i sort of tucked in and got in behind a car.
What is the full legality of splitting ? is it completely illegals ?
I once was told some Jive that as long as you indicated your lane changeds and didnt exceed 50kmh it was all good - that time it was referred to as filtering, its probably a load of turd, but id like some clarification on it, i know we can now use the bus lanes in town, be good if we could use them on the motorway too.
a lot of cops turn a blind eye to it but you can never be sure

as far as I am aware the legal definition is if the traffic is moving at less than 20km, you are allowed to filter.
You must be doing no more than 30km yourself.

There don't seem to be any hard and fast rules about when you can and when you can't.
If you do a search on this forum you'll find numerous debates on this subject.
Personally, I take the view that it's illegal and if I get pulled over, I'll get a ticket. That doesn't stop me from doing it though, it's all about the risk to benefit ratio. I've also split past police cars and bikes and so far, they have turned a blind eye.
Also, if you're splitting like a maniac, expect to draw attention to yourself and don't complain when you get slapped with the long arm of the law!

I'm so over the filtering debate that I'm trying something different.
I'm completely against it.
It's dangerous.
It's illegal.
Cagers hate us for it.
Nah. Just kidding.

You must be doing no more than 30km yourself. Nope. A search will reveal all.

Just make sure you bike will fit through the holes in the filter. Nothing like being an odd sized chunk, you are bound to be sifted

Basically I think it depends on:
1. What mood the oink is in.
2. How much of a risk do you seem? How smoothly you can filter -not cut people off- and how much faster than the traffic you are.
3. I know we need to speed up to 130+ while filtering on the motorway to do it safely - but the cops may not agree........same with slower 50K zones...
