Got a question !

I got my phone , nokia something, on telecom prepay mainly for the 10$ txt.

I bought it off trademe 1 month ago and the guy i bought it off got it in wellington in LATE AUGUST this year.

now problem is my reception on that phone is really really bad. i mean in the city, i dont even get anything more then 3bars in the reception...

So i go to telecom today and they say the minimum charge for checking the phone will be 55NZD. Now i have never returned anything under warranty before but i was just wondering that if a product is on warranty, do we still have to pay for fixing it ??

NOTE: i have never dropped the phone and tempered with it in any way....

Thanks

Warranties aren't transferable.

what about new vehicle warrenties, often see them sold with balance of three year warrenty remaining ie duckmans k4 gixxer must still be under warrenty so the new person does not recieve any benifit from buying a near new bike?

Would imagine you'd need the original receipt for the phone, as well as returning it to the shop from which it was purchased.

Warranties aren't transferrable. The warranty contract is between the seller/manufacturer and the original purchaser. If the shop continues to honour the warranty with subsequent purchasers then good on them, but there is no legal way to transfer a warranty to an owner other than the original owner. The contract expires when the original purchaser sells the item/goods.

I've been stung by the "balance of new vehicle warranty" in court, so I've learned the hard way.

surely it must be illegal to sell vehicles mentioning this then

unless you've got the proof of purchase, and probably hold yourself out to be the original purchaser, you'll be charged alright.

Its a situation where you just need to try and if you get away with it..... Well done.
If not..... just move on.

I used to work for Vodafone and dealt with this allot, technically the warranty is not transferable but the repairers and phone companies are not that mean about it, the only catch is you do need the original proof of purchase e.g. receipt, phones only have a 12 month warranty and they need the receipt to prove that it's within that period.
