When they come round to collect it, if they haven't already, tell them you left it at work and will 'post' it soon :blip:

yeah, problem is, you'll still be suspended, and if you ARE stopped, and show your licence, or are riding and forget to take it, and are stopped at a checkpoint, or are in a crash and try to make an insurance claim.......you get the picture.

Yip, as previously stated, licence is suspended for all classes and if you plan to produce your licence to a cop while disqualified, if you get caught, that's another charge with the same penalties as Driving Whilst Suspended / Disqualified. (max 3 months in prison, max $4500 fine, 6 months disqualification - added on).

A prison term for riding on a disqualified license??? How often has this happened in your professional experience??

Happens more than you would think. For a 3rd of subsequent offence, the max is 2 years in the slammer.

Prison is obviously reserved for the clowns who don't learn - you usually need a few convictions to get that, but for a lot of people, they keep doing it and every time, they have another 6 months or more disqualification added and they keep getting caught. Eventually they do end up inside.

If you were in Queensland you'd lose your speed boat licence too.

You get served a letter at which time you are subsequently suspended from driving. Whether or not you hand over your physical licence at the time has no effect on the actual suspension.

isn't it or wan't it the case you'd be issued with a letter once you'd got over the 70 demerit mark with all the blah blah saying what the circumstances would be etc

Pretty sure you still get a warning letter when you hit 50 demerits but that one is posted. The letter for suspending your licence is physically served on you.

and whether you receive the warning letter at 50 is irrelevant as to being subsequently suspended.

and you will probably do a short lag for 3rd subsequent - especially if it is your principle form of offending, as you're obviously not learning....

If you lose your licence because of demerit points and are suspended from driving, when your suspension ends are your demerit points at zero?
Or do the demerit points stay and drop off like normal after two years?

Is there an easy way to check how many demerit points you've accumulated ?(a website or something?)

Yes, you go back to zero points after being suspended
(until the next ticket  )

If you go into any police station with your licence, they can do a check on the computer for you. Or you could call LTNZ Driver Licencing. Don't think there is a website.

Also you motor vehicle (car, truck, taxi, bus, Motorbike, camper, get the picture) is loaded up on the tow truck for 28 days. The cop can now suspend you if your are showen "wanted for service of a suspension letter" at the road side.

Coming soon to a town near you... soon you won't have to be "wanted for service of a suspension letter". If the computer shows you have 100 demerits or more, police will be able to suspend your licence on the spot. I think it comes in in January sometime.

At present, the bailiff has to try all avenues to serve the letter before the "Wanted" flag is attached to your name.

That'll go down a treat with Mr Average Bloke who's on holiday with the family and doesn't even know he's reached a hundred.
But then what are our rights compared with administrative convienience?
