Alas, I have to leave Christchurch and head back the s*thole that is Auckland. Worse than that, i have to start work :(
I am also feeling poorly after paying for the removal people to take my stuff home, and so it will be a cheap trip.
Last year I did the bottom half of the South Island (and it was good). I have less time this year, so only have time for a small detour on the way home. I ws thinking of going over to the West Coast, Westport, Denniston (because it sounds interesting), Karamea, Nelson, Wellington, over the 'Takas and up via Napier to taupo and then home. I expect this will take a few days...
Any other suggestiosn? Need to sit down with a map and work out the route and times.

What about instead of Napier to Taupo carry on up up around East Cape or if you don't mind unsealed roads through the Urewera National park out of Wairoa, or the road from Gisbourne through to Opotiki, heaps of choice really:2thumbsup

I woudl like to do that but I don't think I will have time, I only have 4-5 days to get home, and you lose over half a day on the ferry. At least Gisborne is in the smae island - anything avoiding the ferry crossing is good as it cuts into the time.
I should get over to that side again - haven;t been to Gisborne for 25 years

Is that all Stephanie is allowing - or is that the most you can get away with before she gets suspicious?????

heheheh. No, it is the RG500 20th anniversary meeting on the 26th, and the bike is not going, has no WOF and needs re-vinning. Ohh, and I have a fire report for an old folks home waiting for me to sort out when I get home. And I still have to finish my thesis - all the editing/ rewriting and boring stuff to do. 186 pages so far and counting..
and of course, I am poor, so can't afford to do much. $430 to ship my stuff home!
