Just spent the last few days drifting around the waitomo/kawhia areas doing some caving and I noticed that there are some awsome roads up those ways i.e long, lots of corners, pretty well sealed and no traffic to speak of. How many of you guys are locals up there or ride them often, because except for the solitary harley davidson I saw there are no bikes around the place. It must be one of the best kept secrets of the north isalnd!

They are fantastic roads and I have done a bit of riding on them, lots of good gravel roads too.Probably a little too ''real'' for the riders here.I used to have a place at Aotea Harbour 25 yrs ago,I've done the Kawhia road heaps.

Can you tell us which roads exactly they were that you were on? Are they on this pic?

Toast- the best one that I went over was waitomo to te anga (the glow worm cave bit on that map). It then continues on to kawhia after the map runs out-its a real nice stretch, all 55-75k corners with a few straights. Just watch for road works just before you get to kawhia as they were resealing there last week

If you want some place to stay at Kawhia the camp ground (the one further on near the beach) is great, has little cabins very cheap (ok well they are knocked up from packing boxes). Nice people & hot pools on the beach.
