View Full Version : The Great Trailer Run!!

Here's another fundraiser idea for Spankme and the running of Kiwibiker.co.nz
I;ve got a 3 rail bike trailer in Dunedin that needs to be freighted to Auckland and bugjuice 'suggested' passing the trailer from city to city with the help of the KB members nationwide! I thought it was a cool idea and would like to turn this into what I'll call "The Great Trailer Run"!!
If we can get a KBer from each city along the route to pass on the trailer till it gets to Auckland, I'll contribute a certain amt of mula to Spankme for the running of this forum. I'm hoping this will help this great website as well as get my trailer up here.
Since it's coming from Dunedin it would cover most of this country and would in effect kinda be a national KB fund raiser sponsored by me as I'm willing to fork out a couple of hundred to freight the trailer up here.
Any thoughts guys?

Okay, I'll get the ball rolling.
I could take it to Timaru, if some Christchurch KB'er(s) would like to meet me there to "take the batten" onwards.
It would be nice to meet any Ch-ch KB'ers.

Cheapest option would be--put the trailer on its lonesome on the ferry --then a welly KBer picks it up other end.

A big thank you to those who have put up their hands to be a part of this fundraiser, Virago, Joni, Uncle Frost, Marty, Poorbastard, Motu.....
Is there any more willing to help out? The more hands we get the lighter work for everyone and the more I'll contribute to this website too!! :msn-wink:
Also, we'll need to get some confirmed dates to help organise everyone's involvement. Virago, are you able to tow the trailer to timaru sometime next week? Anyone in Timaru or Chch able to grab it off Virago and tow it to Chch?
Once again, thanks for your willingness to help! If some of you guys can take pics of the handover of the trailer, I'll put together a scrap book of this Trailer Run Fundraiser for the site! :niceone:

Late next week would be okay, but I'd prefer the weekend. Timaru is a 400km round trip from here (close to $60 in gas), so that would be my limit. Can someone come down from Ch-ch to take it from there?
I'd be happy to do it, to see some money going to the site maintenance, but also the chance to meet some other KB'ers.

Gamgee here in Dunedin has a VT250 for sale. If anyone up north is interested, there could be a trailer going door-to-door.........
Done of course for a reasonable donation to Spankme.....

I can do pretty much any time but need to know when it will be in Welly so I can get time off work. I have to go back down to Welly some time to pick up the two bikes and bring them up here (Taumarunui). Just mainly so I can organise other things in Welly. Any time within the next 2 weeks would be good.

It would seem we have a problem between Timaru and Picton. If anyone can help that would be awesome and would keep this fundraiser alive too! :niceone:
Once in Welly there's a number of options but Poorbastard would be the likely choice as he's planning to tow 2 bikes back to Taumarunui from Welly.
So anyone from Chch/Timaru or the upper South Island can put their hands up for this part of the trailer run that would be most appreciated. It is for a good cause plus there'll be a 3 rails trailer available for KBers to use in the upper North Island region too! :msn-wink:
Come on guys..... let's keep this alive! :spudwave:

I'm ready to go, but I can't just dump the trailer at the roadside at Timaru.
We still need someone to take it from Timaru to Ch-ch. Sniper wants to help but doesn't have a cage with a towball. Can someone help him out?

I believe kickaha is trying to arrange for his side-car mates to bring to up to Chch after their side-car thingy in Dunedin.
From there it's still unknown if anyone can bring it up to picton onto the ferry, I'm hoping someone can do it or I'll just have to freight to from Chch to Welly... which would cost quite abit and that could be donated to the site instead..

No worries. I am probably going to run my trailer down to Welly and pick my bikes up. But do often do trips down to welly so I will still more then likely be able to bring the trailer up.

Also, if you could put the trailer on the ferry by it's lonesome, I'll bank transfer the ferry money to you asap!
Is that cool? if not we'll just have to arrange something else.
If we can try and plan this thing.......
ajturbo picks it up from welly ferry and takes it up to palmy...
klown takes over and brings it up to orkland.....
Can we see this happening? I CAN! :msn-wink:

Hi Warwick,
Thanks for your inquiry. Yes we do take unaccompanied trailers, but all such inquiries should be directed to our Freight department - give them a call on 0800 162 322 and they will be able to give you prices etc.

Just an update.... the trailer is still at Kickaha's work and due to the festive season's usual rushing about I guess nothing has really been done since then.
My plans have changed along the way and I will only require the trailer late Jan or Feb.
However, I'll like to start working on this trailer run again sometime in early Jan so that we can get Spankme the funds raised for next year as I'm sure it'll help him and his team better plan for the year ahead.
Thanks once again to all who've helped, supported and contributed good ideas, your help to complete this fundraiser would be much appreciated!!! :yeah:
Kickaha - let me know if there's any cost involved in storing the trailer at your work and I'll sort it out asap! ;)

Guys,
Got a mate with a van and a towbar but no lighting wiring...any ideas?
She's happy to get it to Picton but not sure if it's a good idea to tow all that way without trailer lights?

23rd January 2006, 10:14
Can her vehicle lights be seen from behind, as there aint nothing on the trailer
Then it shouldnt be a problem...
Ok technically she should have the trailer lights working...but I figure as long as ALL others travelling behind her can see all her lights (indicators and brake) then its ok... and that she sticks to the speed limit and doesnt do anything to attract the attention of the lovely police officers, then she should get it to Picton ok.
Do others agree with that...?
Virago
23rd January 2006, 11:01
Yes, I'd agree - provided she is towing in daylight hours, and her vehicle lights (brake & indicators) can be clearly seen from behind, it shouldn't be a problem.
