fuel cleaners do they work?

wanting to know does adding fuel cleaners actually work ie.wynns spitfire and that sort of stuff.
will it be any benefit to my bike its 2nd hand but new to me and if it works what is best and is anything not good to stick in it.

Hmm there is a lot of debate. They all work in the LAB but thats not real life. The question is wether they provide value for money. You see if you have a slightly clogged jet and follow the instructions on the bottle it may clear it however you may or may not notice the difference even though there has been one. The problem is that you need to add it to a full tank and ride continuiously until the tank is nearly empty to get the additive to soften the deposit which gets sucked into the engine and burnt. A quick trip to the local dairy will not cut it. Try one and see. I doubt you will notice the difference but your engine might. They suggest fuel savings after using an additive and it will happen but you will need some accurate measuring devices to see. After all they are talking about .001km/l improvement. But if they can measure it in a lab they can claim it.
My opinion is unless your bike is running a little rough and you think its related to a fueling problem (like you have just topped up and now its running hairy due to contaminated fuel) save your money. Poor quailty fuel is a bit of a problem and is different to contaminated fuel (ie has water or dirty particles suspended in the mix). Contaminated fuel is a problem when you fill up at the same time as the tanker is topping up the servos tanks. The gas from the tanker stirs up the shhit sitting in the bottom of the tanks. Did you know it used to be common for servos to add water to their tanks if they were running low in gas as petrol floats on water and the tank outlet is above the bottom of the tank to stop it sucking out the shit on the bottem.

i'd rather take the carbs off and sort the problem out manually than to waste time with Wynns or anything like it.. you'd be shocked at the improvement a blowgun and an hour of time will make


much more than a $20 bottle of snake oil.

we ned to harden up and stop looking for the "Quick Fix" and get our hands dirty once in awhile

here here to that. After stripping the ZXR down and polishing the head and cleaning out the carbs, it took a long time cause im in no means a mechanic but was big learning curve but was well worth the time and effort.

even though performance hasn't changed dramatically i now share a new level of intimacy with my baby...:love:

i had my ports hogged out and polished the exhaust, roughed up the intake side..man.. huge difference in power..you cant get that out of a bottle..
