The lost weekend?....nah.
I did the entire Big Boys toys show. I couldn't say 'worked' at the show, you can't call standing around talking about motorcycles 'work'. I was representing AMPS on the Triumph NZ stand.

I got to hang out with one of my favourite people in Eddie from ANZA and between us we had a wicked Juke Box and mint PA - belting out that old time rock and roll music music for the entire hall, 'On Any Sunday' running on huge plasma wide screen, a fog machine (till the fire marshall freaked), a mini light show, a couple of the tastiest birds on any of the stands, some of the coolest bikes going in a Rocket III all optioned-up, A Speed Triple, a Sprint ST and a F41000 MV Agusta up on plinths with an endless procession of bikers to talk to.

I wish my lounge room was like it.

Thanks to the numerous KB'ers that said hello and passed the time of day. There was lots of you over the 3 days. All good.

I learnt a lot. I was a little surprised how little the general public knew about the brands and pleased with how much the bikers knew. There are some marketing changes I'll be suggesting on the strength of it.

I've booked a photo shoot with 'stretch' and shaun king and some models to do some of their wicked stunts out at Meremere strip and, if i can get the F4 organised have a pro quality model pushing me to do a glamour shoot for Brass, 'loving the bike'.

I had a good chat to Charlie the long way round guy - he's a thunderbird sports rider. good listener too - we talked for half an hour - most of it me telling him how good we've got it here (and all about ME!) - good guy.

Tell ya's one other thing...my farking feet are sore.

Wot? "There's a bunch of geeks sitting around talking about bikes. I went and met them before they went for a ride once"?

That's not a write up, that's a glossed over half truth.

It should of read, "There's a bunch of bitches sitting around online, griping about the cops/roads/each other/crashing/cops/rego prices/cops/servicing costs/speeding tickets/harleys/cops/spares prices."

Much more balanced.

Still too soon. I'll still be a briken arse/no bike mofo then I think. Still, I know a guy who knows a guy with a nice new U-sillys thing that I've been eyeing for a while........

didn't take a camera - nowhere secure to store it and I didn't need the distraction.
didn't even use sarges excellent parking tip - preferred to grab a $12 cab and left my bike secure in it's shed - and just relaxed and enjoyed the gig.

seemed like every other visitor took a pic of the Rocket III anyway.

On that matter - the hippie disclosed the true meaning of the 'truck driver' scenario last night.

It was a metaphor folks.

I'd never go to Big Boys Toys - it's an insult to small people.I'll be starting a petition about this one,nip it in the bud.Go right to the top - it's disgusting that such a show can be put on,just a fucking discrace!

Oh and i forgot - i challenged a former Kiwi superbike racer of renown to a race around the pavillion on the identical Vespa LX50's we had too - but he pillowed - hiding behind some lame excuse about there being several hundred people on the proposed circuit.
I claim victory by default!!!

'Twas excellent to meet you Dave and have a natter re the Tractor. Which reminds me, where the hell were the Buells? I would have thought AMPS would have chucked a Ulysses and a Lightning at the stand.

Cheers - It was an 'Importers Association' show - of which H-D are not a member.

Did you ever see the episode of 'The Goodies' where they practiced 'Apart Height' - everyone short (bill) was discriminated against. Use that as your model.

I was pretty disappointed with the bike show to be honest. All the manufacturers bar Suzuki had last years models on display, nothing we haven't all seen before. The only thing worth looking at was the new gixxer6, even if it was a hand built prototype.

Good on Suzuki for making a bit of effort, the others were pretty piss poor except for Yamaha and the lovely "models" on their stand, even if they were sitting on the 05 R1 and arse sex.

welcome to living in the last outposts of civilisation - if you want to be first to see everything - go and live in a city with 10 million people and enjoy the queues.

Been there, done it, enjoyed it.

I'm not asking to be the first to see everything, after all most of the new 06 models have been unveiled at multiple trade shows around the world and the pics are in circulation, but this was supposed to be the NZ Motorcycle Show was it not? Bringing together a bunch of bikes that have been in the showrooms for months is hardly a show!!

i know what you are saying but - i enjoyed it and saw heaps of things I'd not before.

I suggest you address your concerns to messers Honda, Suzuki and Bloor and their factories and suggest they raise the priority rating of their smallest market - And they best delay releases at Milan show till they get here.

Failing that - have a word to the organisers of Big Boys toys and see if they can move it to a date when next years bikes are more likely to be available. And don't forget the 2 months at sea and getting through customs.

Just add - acknowledge that the thing could be better too.

I guess Triumph makes an ST as well. Imitation being a form of flattery?

And they are both very good motorcycles at what they do.
