Anybody riding an FJR1300?

Just wondering if any of you guys are riding a Yamaha FJR1300? If so tell me what you think, any problems or peculiarities to look for. I have one arriving soon so I thought I'd try and get a bit of a head start.:soon:

To start with --YOU UTTER BASTARD ---that is my all time favorite road bike.
The riding experience is devine.-very smooth -and handle very well for a tourer. I found the windsheild bloody fantastic for my height.
Mechanicly they're basicly a big bore XJ900 so once its run in itll go 40000km between shim changes.
issues--power screen motor failure.
VERY hot bike to ride. In the first generation the motor would in some cases boil the petrol in the tank.
they used heat sheilding under the tank of the second generation to reduce this issue--If ya bought a gen 1 you can retrofit the sheilding.
If youre riding in the city -accept your legs will get very um--warm
Otherwise--ohh yea baby-nice bike

So if that's your all time favorite Mr Frosty what are you riding now and if it's not an FJR then why not.
The FJR I'm getting is a 2005 model with 5000 miles on it, yes miles it's coming from the states. But that's only 8000k so it's only just run in really. :banana: The last bike I had was a Honda CBX1000 6 cylinder. :scooter: Bloody quick. I imagine this one will be a little quicker than that but that was about 15 years ago anyway. So anyway if all I have to worry about is a little heat around town that's just fine cos I'll be using it on the open road mostly.:rockon:

I would be interested in how you compare it to the GTR, Frosty. Bearing in mind the GTR technology dates back about 20yrs and is half the price.

I can confirm that Frosty wuvs those motorsickles.......I was present when he was cruelly thwarted when hoping to buy one at an auction. The swearing and cussing was terrible to witness...I didn't even know some a them words....

Zadox- Quite frankly mate there is no comparisson.
If comparing Id do XJ900/gtr1000 Both bikes are similar capacity/power
The Gtr wins in the comfort stakes -especially in the wet/damp/
The xj out handles and outbrakes the GTR

The FJR raises the bar a whole other notch -It really suits my riding -I love shaft drive.I love -for road use big bikes. I like to cover big distances in comfort but My bike is also my commuter I also like from time to time to have a little "ahem" play on the backroads.
The FJR is way capable of all of that.
I was lucky enough to get a decent ride on the prerelease bike and it inspired utter confidence in me
The thing goes like a FJ1200 on roids -it actually handles--not racetrack stuff but definitely enough to give some sportbike riders a red face.The brakes were fantastic for a big bike .

They're way overpriced at the moment compared to Mr Honda's deal on the ST1300. On the plus side, they look better sans-panniers than the ST.

Not having personal experience on either bike as yet it's hard to comment on them but going by all the reviews I've read it seems the Yamaha is by far the better bike. I guess only time will tell, only 10 more sleeps. Yay.:banana:

Ride them both. Draw your own conclusions. There are reviews that put the ST1300 ahead. And check out the secondhand prices for similar age STs versus FJRs...

Done the research and you are quite right, Some fore and some against. Most seem to agree that the Honda St1300 is a smoother, quieter and slightly more comfortable ride and the Yamaha FJR is lighter and quicker with better handling. Some prefer one while others prefer the other. I must say I do like the styling of the Honda and I've always had a bit of a soft spot for a nice Honda and yours is definitley that. I'm very interested to get on my Yamaha and see how it performs, the price was right and reviews were good so it's on the way. Only 9 more sleeps and its in the country, probably another 3 or 4 after that before I actually get it tho.:2thumbsup

My mate in aussie has one of these behemouths,he loves it and has shown up a few sprotbikes with it too.Looks bloody impressive going around the outside of things with sparks showering off everything :blink:

It's the Yamaha arriving on the 5th, I anticipate getting possession by the end of that week hopefully, fingers crossed. The VTX is due to arrive in NZ on the 15th so I'm hoping to get possession of that one by the following wednesday, fingers and toes crossed for this one 'cos it's the one I want to take to Taupo and beyond for Christmas. Thanks for the invite tho Mr Waylander but I'm gonna have to take a rain check this time.:ride:

No problem mate.

Bit of a warning, don't expect everything to go smoothly when the bikes arrive. MAF and LTSA(orwhatever they are now) don't seem to be on speaking terms at the best of times. Make sure the bikes get border checked before they leave the dock and be there wth them if you can to make sure MAF get the correct VIN#. Otherwise the process takes even longer. Wich shipping company did you use?
