Anybody get a chance to play on it at BBT this year? Interested in what it's like and if it's reverse-gen capable (for those that don't know that means if it can play games from the original Xbox aswell. Like playstation 2 can play playstation 1 games)
Considering getting either a 360 or an xbox. I still want to be able to play Halo 2 online till Halo 3 comes out, and if the 360 plays good and is reverse-gen capable I'll it. But if not then I'll be getting another xbox.

Have had a go and its quite a bit better than the standard xbox. Yes they do play the older games also. However I brought a xbox a few months ago for the youngins and are in no hurry to be forking out for one of these. Besides, I don't care what anyone says, gaming machines will never be as good as a PC, ever.

Maybe not but I cant get a decent gaming computer for less than $500 now can I? lol. I'll stick with consoles mate. Too many games use different controllers on computers. Some use keyboard and mouse, some use joy-stick, some need a controller. Too much to keep track of for my miniscule brain.

You'd be doing well getting a computer that can play half life 2 or any modern games for $500, but it'd be nice to think that the good deals are out there. I find that if you buy a decient type of controller (I wait for the specials, i.e. half price) then they work on all PCs. However the game machines will allways be cheaper, however you do get what you paid for ahe.:thud:

From what I've read, the PS3 is going to be noticibly better. Unless the XBox gets held back for longer to upgrade.
Anyone know the approxmite release dates?

Xbox 360 comes out in like a week, atleast in the states. Shouldn't be too far behind for here.
Don't know about the PS3 andI wont even consider getting one till I know what games will be released with it.

The way I've always seen it is that PS2 games have always been better than X-Box games. There's nothing that I want on XBox that I can't get elsewhere (PC, PS2)
Plus, now the PS3 will have a hard drive, so that's one less thing you X-Boxers can crow about.

Maybe, but we have Halo2 and monstrously fat controllers!! lol A PS3 might be in the cards but the only games I ever played on PS1 and 2 was the Metel Gear Solid series.

Surely you would of been sold then! MGS is awesome! Although ol' Hideo Kojima is a bit of a conspiriacy nut...

Microsoft have said that the 360 will play most of the original Xbox games but some may not work. They've said this so they don't get in trouble like Sony did when a few PSone games didn't play on the PS2.
According to some of the main game developers, they say the 360 is the best to make good games on and it's harder to do so on the PS3 at this stage. So I wouldn't be quick to say the PS3 will be remarkably better as it might turn out to be what we've had now with Xbox being more powerful but PS2 having better games, only vice versa.
Not like it should worry me, I'll never be able to afford either.

Waiting for the true MGS 3 (Not snake eater but the one that continues from sons of liberty) Shame Kojima won't be directing anymore, although that is what he said the last time.
Anyway back to the 360. How easy are the controllers to manage? Frommy experiance wireless controllers arn't that great.

The Madcatz wireless controllers for both the Xbox and PS2 eat up tonnes of batteries and aren't really worth it. Otherwise aren't the 360's controllers just like original Xbox controllers only white?
Microsoft are also going for a full on assault at the Japanese market after the crappy sales they've had with the Xbox compared to the PS2 and even the Gamecube as the Japanese are more loyal to local companies. This means theres likely to be better games to give PS3 a harder time and the console might be cheaper.
And a side note, anyone who says Xbox sucks because the controller is too big is a moron.

From what I heard the 360 comes with wireless controllers standard with the receiver for them built into the machine. I think they also come with stronger rechargable batteries.

So the 360 doesn't have controller ports?! That's a good reason to get the PS3 if that's the case.

I'm going to wait until I know I can mod the shit out of the new xbox and put in a bigger hard drive etc. A standard modded xbox kicks so much ass there's no way I'd go back to one that I've got to actually purchase games for unless they were really worthwhile games.
Being able to run your own apps like xbmc is something I couldn't do without now either.

It does have controller ports but I think there is only two of them. Not sure as all the info I could find on it was a few months old (hence why I amasking if anyone saw it at BBT) also said that it had built in receivers for up to four wireless contollers.
But then I also read that games would not be bought in a normal sense but downloaded off the net in portions. As in 29.99 for the first quarter of it and so on... If that is true I may just rethink the whole xbox thing.

I love it when people start talking about consules, someone always has to jump to the defence of PC's. PC's make a better games machine, well fuck me a $1500+ machine is better than a $500 consule? No shit sherlock. However we're discussing consules, not PC's.

What's ironic about that? Anyone who says the Xbox is inferior to the PS2 just because the controllers are too big is letting their arse do the talking. It'll be like an Xbox owner saying PS2 sucks because it doesn't have any green on the console.

i had a PS2, loved it and played it heaps. Then i got an Xbox and i think the Xbox is much better then the PS2, well most of the time. GP2 on the PS2 was mint, GP2 on the Xbox is bollox. But Forza out classes GT4 by a long way. But from what i've seen and herd, my next consol purchase will be back with Sony for a PS3.
My 2 cents in an otherwise geeky and boring thread......

You can mod it up with a bigger hard drive and I'm sure it wont be too long before somone comes up with a chip allowing you to "backup" games from disk to hard drive. ("you paid $75-$100 for that game? Wow, only cost me $8.99" lol) and put other progras on it. It's still essentially the very basics of a desktop computer.

The ironic thing is that you're calling other people morons, even though you have a simplistic spelling error.
If you're going to make fun of other people for having opinions, you had at least do it right.

Burnout Revenge is the most fun multiplayer game I've played for a while on the xbox. Especially with the wireless logitech controller! Schwing.
Unreal Championship 2 also kicks ass. I hope they get some good game programmers who'll take advantage of the new hardware of the xbox 360 to make some kickass games.

That "modding up" with the official hard drive addon doesn't sound that great. I want to be able to put in a hard drive of my choice, not an overpriced official microsoft accessory. I heard the xbox 360 doesn't even ship with a hard drive as standard unlike the original xbox.
I'm sure MS will be putting a whole crapload of effort into trying to stop people from chipping their xboxes to allow hard drive changes after the number of game sales they would have lost after the original xbox was chipped, but I spose it'll just be a matter of time before someone gets around their protection... so I'll wait till then :)

Bungie is on the table with a few games that near push it's limits. Halo 3 for starters.
Also I heard tale of another burnout game. Not sure what the graphics are at though.

Whilst we're being petty, you forgot a full stop. I may as well disregard anything you say now as you can't use full stops properly.

It's now a concrete peice of machinery although we won't bee seeing it in NZ (retail) until march(ish) 2006. So the word of mouth "whatsitgonnabe" shit is in the past. The games are being reviewed - there's no hear say anymore.
The game above looks cool, which has nothing to do with the fact a PC with an X800 (or better) could pull it off without breaking a sweat.

I'm waiting for PS3. I think the cell cpu should make a big difference to gaming because of the amount of power it has - physics are easily processed on the same cpu as well as the general game calculations needed etc. The Nvidiot RSX graphics should be good considering they are made for a relatively fixed TV resolution and textures/AA etc should be adjusted accordingly (HD tv is quite high though...). An x800xt will play any modern game at 1024*768 with max AA/AF as it is, so the RSX being superior should be great on HDTV and what have you.
I'm not the greatest fan of xbox (naturally it is a microshaft product too...) but I really enjoyed playing 4 player Halo on a big screen with my mates. Great game!
Also the fact that the current xbox is basically a coppermine celeron/p3 and a modded gf3 don't make me that happy.
P.S GT4 > Forza :bleh:

Retail price $729.95 at EB. Will come out in March 06. That's the premium-package.
Start saving.
Btw, Forza's handling is better than Gt4. GT4 tends to understeer too much, and is not exactly realistic on FR cars. Compared it with my car, forza's handling is more realistic.
Too bad the graphic in Forza goes back to GT3 days.
