Was lucky enough yesterday to spread myself over a brand new black 2005 VTR1000 and take it up from piha, along scenic drive to henderson.

Was a nice change from the crazy little R6, i really love the way you can 'feel' the power, and also just how smooth it rolls on, no need for gear changes if you come to a corner a lil slow etc. I was also really surprised at how light it felt, im assuming its to do with the steering damper on the R6, but this 'big' bike felt little to me.

Went to sleep dreaming of that roaring crack (it had neptunes on it) that it makes as you fire it up and give it a rev :headbang:

Might be my next bike me thinks

tristan and john says "oh noes, not a honda!"

very nice bike vvv :niceone:

The rumble is certainly nice and when you hit the open road it is even better.
After buying big Ds bike i just can't help think to myself how long it will be before i get pulled over for an excessively loud exhaust.

if you wanna hear a real thunderous roar, you all should try to have a listen to WRT's new pipes on his RSV-R. there not pipes so much as they are rocket launchers or jet engine exhaust's

I too love the V-Twin roar, my VTR currently has the standard pipes, and are too quiet.

I am in the process of having a pair of aftermarket pipes made by Custom Chambers, they get fitted tomorrow:2thumbsup I should post a before and after soundfile.

whoops, the pipes were micron not neptune :whocares:

yo marmoot, will trade you a straight  R6 later on next year maybe?

decided i might 'upgrade' to a big twin thumper once i've had some sporty fun on the R6. The torque just makes it so easy to ride out of corners, i found out i'd only been using 2nd and 3rd gear on the VTR today when i took it for another spin... seems to have the exact same power right through into 6th gear

What?!?
You still raving on about that ugly new bike of yours?
Actually, the VFR (piped, of course) does sound similar to a 996, what with the gear whine and all.
I still miss the sound of a 90-degree V-twin though (although it sounds different from the seat, which is where the VFR sounds better), and that bastage that rides his V-twin Whatever past the office every day at 8:45ish better find another route to work, because it's making me sad. :blank:

when i ditched the r6 over coro there were 3 big vtwin thous that went past, could hear them from a mile off, was awesome. got my eye on a cheapish ducati, which if its still around next year i want to re-engine it with a 750 or 900. Otherwise i might save some coin once i got the R6 paid off and get an ex-japan 916 or similar!

Don't go simply on power when talking about v2.
The whole idea about v2 is handling (compactness) as opposed to power. If you want power, buy a fireblade or an R1 and you'll get the most hp per dollar out there.

Sport V2 is about the flickability, cornering etc, and that's why ducati is the nicest v2 out there.

its more about traction...you can get a faster turn of speed out of corners when comepared to 4's...get on the gas harder and earliyer...there is a bigger gap in time between power strokes on a v-twin than a four...gives the tire more time to find grip again...[four fires 180-180-180-180...90 degree V-twin fires 360-360...60 degree V-twin fires 240-240...parrel twin fires 270-270]]

I beg to differ. It is so much easier to induce power slides on my SP1 than the blade, simply because of the torque around the midrange RPMs. Power delivery of the 4s are normally much smoother than twins due to the fact that (1) you have more RPM to play around, and (2) the torque builds up gradually instead of peaking in the midrange area.

However, sliding or not, the SP1 is so much easier to control than the blade simply because of its width. Because it is so narrow, you can chuck it in left and right very quickly and even when it is sliding it is still very controllable. The fact that the SP1 is 20kg heavier than my 99 blade is totally irrelevant to the reality (which really surprised me).

......and that is also why SP1 won the SBK and TLR couldn't
