Interesting article in The Register

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/11/15/vehicle_movement_database/

Particulary interesting bit here...

"good nationwide coverage within the next 12 months." According to ACPO roads policing head Meredydd Hughes, ANPR systems are planned every 400 yards along motorways, and a trial on the M42 near Birmingham will first be used to enforce variable speed limits, then to 'tackle more serious crime.'"

Luckily its being setup in England....

A brilliant idea, and long overdue IMO. The problem in the UK is that there are so few HP on the road (per head of population) compared to NZ. So there's an enourmous number of un-insured (insurance being compulsary in the UK), unlicensed, un-WOFd (MOT) on the roads in the UK. Hopefully it'll clear the crap off the road for those that pay their way.

And then there's the stolen vehicles, and those vehicles driven by people of 'interest' to the authorities.

Damned good idea. Bring on Big Brother.

Good find mate. Thx.

Ouch. I guess that's another reason I'll never live in the UK. Someone from England was telling me how occasionally if you glance up at the right times you can catch snipers on the rooftops during political meetings and such. And how in cities your car gets photographed hundreds of times a day...

Seriously, I love NZ.
