Hi, you might remember me from threads like "My front wheel won't come off" and such like. Well, today the operation was a success.

On Wednesday I went home a little early with the intention of oiling the chain and letting it sit overnight, except when I was busy rolling the bike around, there was a massive scraping sound which hadn't been there that morning  . So, start to check what it is, came to the brakes, sure enough pads were worn. Tried getting them out, but couldn't get the inside one out... off to Mt Eden to get more pads, making sure not to use the back brake...

Asked for a little advice, the mechanic said it was complicated and should be done by them, I reckoned I pay, and watched for the next time... he didn't like that. Also, it couldn't be done then and there... so I reckoned I could have a go.

Left it til yesterday afternoon (thurs), read the manual, did a little research on KB and got the tools. Only thing that held me up was trying to get the inside (closer to wheel) block out. Push, pull, heave ho with all my weight, no success, then trying each side, it suddenly slides back. New pads in, bit of rolling testing in the carport, everything back together so thats good. Pads will be carefully bedded in tomorrow...

Best part is that for once, fixing something didn't mean breaking something else... And check out my advancd specialised area for bike fixing... :2thumbsup and err... no comments about the pads... not good I know, luckily I caught it sorta quickly...

edit: coulda sworn I mentioned it was the back, but anyway, the back brake, to get to that, you take the exhaust off and so on

Looks like ya inside front almost got down to the metal. That happened to mine after getting wof'd 5 days before :|

edit: did you get shuddering at >5kmh under moderate braking?

'on ya bro :niceone:

My first effort at changing brake pads was a bit a of a bitch. When I came to fit the new set, they wouldn't fit over the disc >_< After much pissing around followed by deep thought, I firgured out that the fluid had been topped up after the set already on there had been worn down...meaning that fluid needed to be released before I could push the pistons back in far enough.

All part of the learning process though :)
