took my imported nsr for a vin the other day and failed coz they rekon the headlight rises on the side towards oncoming traffic which the said would mean it was from a counrty that drives on the right side of the road, never heard of this before and its just the standard headlight that comes with the bike, any 1 else heard of this b4 ?? its a pain in the ass

Where is the bike imported from? Japan I take it, where they drive on the same side of the road as us. I would suggest getting a second and third opinion from another WOF agent or LTSA agent. Maybe even contact Honda NZ and quote them the headlight number (may be different for different countries) and chassis number.

I don't think a VIN tester would get it wrong,it might get through a WoF though. It must of been produced for a country that drives on the right,so you'll need to get a replacement headlamp..If you doubt the decision ask to see the pattern on the beam tester,it's pretty obvious.Have look on the lens, there will be an arrow pointing left or right,so the arrow has gotta point left,to the curb side of the road - it's simple.

Motu, I, as I'm sure you have to, have seen VIN testers get it wrong many times. Although as you say, this is quite an easy test so he's probably right.

It's the easy stuff that gets missed, always looking for the tricky things,so the faults right in front of your face get overlooked - but they are more likely to miss it than make a wrong call. Most of the vehicles I've seen with left hand drive headlamps have been NZ new, they are not individualy VINned, just the model,so if a batch of wrong headlamps get supplied they are fitted...and it may be years before some smart arse WoF inspector picks it up.
