Racey Rider
20th November 2005, 08:10
Ok, So, I'm Racey.
Have ridden different types of motorbikes for 25 years.
It must be the 'Mid Life Crises' that made me decide it was time to give competitive riding a go.
But after 7 years of self-employment that struggled to pay the family bills, opportunities to race were limited, so thought I'ld try the 'StreetStock' 150's thing.
In 2003 I had two race days on a RG150. Story here (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=484). Bike went real well, even got myself on the cover of 'Bike Mart' in my first race! But sold that bike to buy something cheaper.
Brought a Cheap KR150. Story here (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=2087). And have been struggling to get that motor sorted ever since. :bash:
Tried to do the full winter series this year at Manfield, with poor results due to breakdowns. Story here (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=12304). But the positives from this year were:
Meet more KB'ers.
Learnt more about my bike. Made mistakes that I won't make again next year!
Got a small amount of Sponsorship which may be extended to next season. Thankyou Webfarm (http://www.webfarm.co.nz/)/Freeparking (http://www.webfarm.co.nz/domain_registration.mv).
My goals from here are:
To get this motor running reliably before next winter series.
To get a Sponsorship reference to help me secure extra sponsors. (despite my lack of race time, my sponsor has been understanding and happy with all the Extra's I did for them)
Compete in next years Vic club Winter series and fight for a top three placing in the championship. :second: :first: :third:
When I get into a better financial position. (read: get a job!), I would love to give GP125's a go, or F3. Have enjoyed posting race reports for you when there was something to write :o , and when I get this bike running better, you can look forward to more to come.
Cheers.
Racey.

Sparky Bills
20th November 2005, 11:18
Im Sparky/Martin #55
Im 21 years old, from Kapiti down near Wellington.
Ive been racing for 2years now.
Started off on a GSXR400, in clubmans
Am now racing for Motomart (i work in parts there), so im lucky enough to use their race bikes
Last year I raced a Ducati 900SS, but now moving to a 748r for Wanga-vegas, then later next year will hopefully move to a nice new CBR600RR.
The Winter Series just gone I came 5th overall in Clubmans class, Id hoped for better but had a couple of rounds where either i got DNF, or just failed to bring the result id wanted. But thats racing i guess.
The higlights so far is being able to race a Ducati at both Wanganui and Paeroa street races.
I didnt win but i also didnt come last, Which was my main objective. The feeling of going flat out on the main streets of a town was just amazing!!
My main goal is to become competitive in F2, but for now its to stay on 2wheels (maybe 1 everynow and then), and get a good name for myself on the race scene.
Im wanting to get over to Oz at some stage to give their club scene a go, but thats in the future.
Another goal is to pick up a couple sponsors, and represent them the best i can, either on or off the track.
So next time your at the race track..
Look for me and come have a chin wag! I dont bite, and am always keen to chat.
Look forward to seeing you all.

I'm Kirk, 21 #14 (although that might change from time to time)
Been racing only this year really, had a few track experiences towards the end of last year but only started since buying my 91 RS125 in february this year. Had some good experiences in King of Levels and Ruapuna this year steadily improving each meeting. Not sure what I finished up but nothing too spectacular.
In the immediate future I will be racing at the Puke, Manfeild and Ruapuna rounds of the nationals this year. Hoping for a top 6 finish at atleast one of the rounds, probably look to ruapuna for my strongest performance hopefully being able to use my local experience to big advantage. Next year I will look at buying a 2001 or newer 125 and put on a full assualt on the nationals next season.
Oh yeah, I've got a bucket too, good for some offseason training. Its an early 80's CB125 with a few minor mods. Good for thrashing and hasn't broken down on me yet.

Im Jeremy, this year its #19, 26 years old, from Upper Hutt, Wellington. I’m a self-employed flooring contractor, JN Flooring, and currently Treasurer of the Vic Club and also do the Oily Rag newsletter.
Tootled around in Clubmans for ‘03 with help from Derek Hill on one of his old bikes. Actually that’s still the case now J. In ‘04 sold the bike to finance by business start up.
This year I rode Dereks spare bike in F3 and promptly ran around the last few positions so headed back to Clubmans and learnt to have a bit of fun first. Came to the last round and found some settings were VERY wrong and left thinking what if…..! But that’s racing I guess. Next year should better.
Highlights so far were the last round when the bike was completely different ;-) and just recently adding another track to the CV, woohoo now I have 2! Just being able to finance the racing myself feels good but always looking out for more help.
Goals for next year are to drop my lap times down to catch the next group ahead of me and get some bigger balls when tipping it in!! Would like to do the Nationals but lap times will help determine that. To meet more people at the meetings!
Look forward to seeing you all.

I started out racing in the mid eighties on bucket racers.
My first races were at a long gone track created on the Wiri container terminal on a honda MB50
I moved up to a cb125 then found a bucket that actually handled -a suzuki rg50.
My first big bike racing was on a RD250LC Back in 1980 summat in a long gone class called 250 production.(250 two stroke ) I moved up to a later model 250 then raced a 600 and a couple of other bikes Including an old xj750 police special. I was always mid field with the occasional bit of brilliance (OR LUCK) that shot me to the front.
I did a street race at manukau city and a few national rounds. I think I even threw a whole national series together one year.
I had a couple of decent crashes close together -one road then one on"the hill' at puke that smashed my left shoulder to the point my left arm diddnt work propperly and damaged my neck.
After a 10-12 year layoff Im back racing again -
I did one full season on a 1989 zxr400. I learned a heck of a lot and managed to finish third overall in formula 3 and pre89 in the amcc club series.
This season I swapped over to my carbied SV650
I did the full AMCC club series and the full PMcc club series
My Amcc series went well with a 5 first place finishes in Formula 3 and an overall series win in Formula 3 in the AMCC series.
Next step is to do the full national race series. I'm planning on do so this season (06/07)
Ultimately my aim is to race in the Isle Of Mann --Its a lifetime long dream that I hope to realise within the next two years.
This all takes money, organisation and the talent to get there -well Im working on the talent bit.
I WILL GET THERE --YOU JUST WATCH ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If anybody on KB is looking for a racer to support either personally or through their company I'm definitely keen.
What I can offer is
Naming rights to my team gear -bike/leathers/race van
Bike, race van and leathers only at the moment have metzler stickers on them.I'm happy to promote a sponsors product or company with stickers and by nameing them as my major sponsor at any event I attend.
At this point my bike is going to be repainted and could be painted in a sponsors colors.
There are also other ways I would apreciate assistance. Footpeg/gear shifter/footpeg bracket/crash bung manufacture. The actual painting of the bike.Maitainence of my race transport van.Tyres -I need 10 sets this season at about $500 a set.

Race SV650 #33 in F3.
Raced for one season on 98/99 on an RGV250 in scotland before coming over here. Last year bought blunija's SV and did clubmans with the VicClub. Finished 3rd overall in VicClub Winter Series. Moved up to F3 for this season, and finished 5th overall.
Looking forward to doing the Nationals this year. Thanks to Actrix Internet!
Oh. And i'm also the secretary for the VicClub.

Chris Sucich here. #194 (formally number 38).
Ive been riding for a total of 23 months and racing for a total of 13 months
Racing started of when i did a couple of track days on my RG150. Decided to give racing a go, entred clubmans and had a ball (even when getting my arse kicked by the 600's and 1000's) Managed to get my times down to 1:20 around Pukekohe.
Was fortunate enough to buy a ZXR400 off John Fallwell (with the help of Frosty) My first race on that was at Taupo for the PMCC series, learnt alot and came in the top 15. Next race was at the Pukekohe nationals where I got between 7th and 9th (burnt out clutch dropped times). Then went onto race at the Vic Clib Winter series, only managed to do three rounds out of the six due to the lack of funds. Was consistently in the top 6 racers, and came 6th overall (due to missing the final three rounds).
Recent races have been at Taupo where i got 3 first place finishes in F3, Pukekohe AMCC Round 1 first place, and AMCC Round 2; first and second place. My best times on my stock ZXR400 are: Pukekohe - 1:07.92, Taupo - 43.8, Manfield - 1:18.772.
Current Ambitions: Win F3 at AMCC club level and PMCC club level, as well as start racing my K5GSX-R600
Future Ambitons:
-To be the best and fastest possible racer that I can be.
-Race in Australia
-Race in IOMTT
-See how far I can get

Hey. I raced a few (12-15?) years ago (prior to marriage and kids) but after hitting 40 this year realised that the itch wasn't yet scratched and after a few track days recently knew that I had to do more. So am now in the process of F III ing my SV 650 and doing some rounds when that is finished.
UPDATE - 12 March 2006
I changed my mind and bought a new 05 R6 and have converted that.
Did first track day at Puke in Feb06 and first race March06.
Good to be back on track!

Names Ian,
Just started racing F3 on a CHEAP ZXR400 (Orange and silver, can't miss me). Only done two rounds of Ruapuna so far but had some interesting experiences!!!! Hoping to get a motard soon and really start bringing my times down. I can't get past the mental block of 'If I fall off how am I gonna afford to repair it'. Hopefully with the motard I know they bounce pretty well so I will be able to push till I fall off!!
Main claim to fame is that I haven't finished last.............YET!

George Fuge or #112 as I was...
I had my first season last year, where I completed the Pacific Club series at Taupo.
I was backmarker for the whole thing, except for a couple of good races, when I decided it was all to much in the top 10, so I crashed instead to keep the stats even. A few broken ribs and a fuzzy head later
I had a blast and learnt an incredible ammount in a very short space of time.
I've had a bit of a setback this season, but I intend to get going for a few races in the new year.
My plans are to get the RGV working again and attack the F3 group at Taupo with gusto!

I first started racing MX in 1975 then moved on to Hare scrambles and enduros until 1981. I tried a bit of road racing but lacked self control and crashed at Manfield so stuck to Dirt bikes. I flipped a 3 wheeler in 81 and retired from racing and bought a road bike (XJ650)
But I had made a promise to myself at age 25 that I would still be racing when I turned 50 so I bought an XR650 in 2001 and got back into it. I am now doing hare scrambles and Enduros and raced in my first MX since 81.
Racing aginst Tim Gibbes back in 1978 was the inspiration to be back in the game now.

I'm Daniel, 16, #132, did 5 races in junior motard with the Wellington Bucket racers and did ok, caught up with the kid an the flasher bike than mine towards the end (he had a '04 KX85, I had a 95 KX80 with no powervalve). Ended up quitting motard despite loving it because I out-grew the bike.
Then I got some really poor advice for what to do next. I wanted a bike that could be used on the road and raced, and I was looking at something like a road legal RMX/KDX. I ended up with my CBR after everyone convinced me to do streetstock and buy a 250 as 150s were crap. I got my licence fairly easily so then I decide to do round 1 of the VMCC champs. It was a shocker. I did well getting to the front and annihilated the RGs and KRs, got a 2:22 lap time on the long track, only I crashed twice wrecking the crankcase and fairings. Took 6 months of being dicked around by panel beaters to fix it.
Now I'm looking to sell the 250 as I don't want to race a $5500 bike and write it off when I could race a $1500 bike that’s just as competitive. Hopefully I'll get back into racing on Jindaworm’s old RG that I brought off him a few weeks ago
Also looking to race minimotos on the side :2thumbsup

This is who I was for the begining of this year: Motoracer (http://www.freewebs.com/nzmotoracer/index.htm)
My plans mentioned on that site are not valid anymore as my plans have now changed, hence I took it down.
I will be creating a more professional website with my new plans very soon. So I will keep you guys updated.
For the time being, please refer to my old website given in the hyperlink above to get a rough idea of who I am and go through some pictures/race reports in there if you like.
Thank you for your interest.

OBJECTIVES<o =""></o>
<o =""></o>As a motorcycle racer my goal is to be as competitive as possible<o =""></o>
At the moment I’m aiming for a reputable Formula 3 placing in the ‘05/‘06 National Road Race Series, and to use that as a stepping stone for my future goals, to prove to myself, and sponsors that I have what it takes to race in Formula 2.<o =""></o>
<o =""></o>
To compete in, and win a national series in Formula 2. –Beyond that I will go as far as I possibly can, without ruling out the international scene.<o ="">
</o>
RACING EXPERIENCE<o =""></o>
<o =""></o>2 years competing in over 15 race meetings in Formula 3 on a tired VFR400 NC30.<o =""></o>
I have recently joined “No Hair Racing” race team and am currently racing a FZR400 (with 450cc kit) in Formula 3.<o =""></o>
<o =""></o>
RACING HIGHLIGHTS<o =""></o>
2nd in Auckland Motorcycle Club Champs 04/05 season.<o =""></o>
Competed at Paeroa in the Battle of the Streets series. <o =""></o>
Competed in the John Britten Memorial Race 2004.<o =""></o>
<o =""></o>
RIDING EXPERIENCE<o =""></o><o =""></o>
I started riding bikes at age 11 on a ’73 SL125, I then moved thru an XL125, XR200, and XR250 until I turned 15 in 2000, that was when I bought and rebuilt my first road bike – a Honda CB250RS soon to be followed by two GPz750‘s one turbo charged and one not.<o =""></o>
<o =""></o>
When I was 16 in I bought my first road race bike, a ZXR400 but unfortunately I never got a chance to race it and instead came across the VFR400 NC30. This became my first dedicated race bike, and I soon ended up buying one for street riding in the weekends, and as a general spare for parts. <o =""></o>
<o =""></o>
I have been following my father’s footsteps in many respects over the passed few years in particular as he raced in Formula 3 & 2 back in the 70’s & 80’s. Though not racing now, he has been my teacher and mentor not just since starting racing, but from day1 on the SL125. <o =""></o>
<o =""></o>
More recently I have gotten back into some off-road riding again, in an effort to assist my road racing by further increasing my motorcycling skills in general, as well as maintaining good general fitness.<o =""></o>

OBJECTIVES<o =""></o>
<o =""></o>As a motorcycle racer my goal is to be as competitive as possible<o =""></o>
At the moment I’m aiming for a reputable Formula 3 placing in the ‘05/‘06 National Road Race Series,
Well i can't do better than that but here's my brief summary.
born in palmy - with both perents into the bikes, speedway, you name it as long as it had motor's, wheels, and went fast. the old man raced sidechairs for a while.
turned 1 - had a plastic bike
turned 4 - had a homemade mini bike
turned 6 - 78 RM80
9 - 87 RM80 and went MX racing
16 - RM125, TS250 road bike - TF100 bucket (which went faster than the 250). pushed the bucket around the NZ GP once it spat the dummy and got 5th in the B class. and finished 6th on club points. Fell off every meeting at manfield on the hairpin on the new section.
17 - CBX250RS - then impluse & GB500, RM125 + and the bucket, tried F3 and local club meeting - but ran out of money to do anything more.
bucket -Fell off every meeting at manfield on the hairpin on the new section during the winter series.
18 19 20- student / bar prop - just the bucket (new frame), no money and fell off every meeting at manfield on the hairpin on the new section. i didn't like that corner, - had pointed out that there was a section of frame with large washer that was welded on, hit the ground when i got more confident and lifted the rear wheel....:thud: i soon solved that problem.
21 - hit a truck on the southern motorway in auckland (on my GSXR400)- no more racing/riding untill NOW.
27 Just moved back to palmy (god knows why, only due to work) and have alittle extra money, and a garage. so it time to get back into it again.
The Plan
1. next 6 months - ride the bucket
2. save some money - buy a F3 bike and try again.
(ten years to late) but thats the fun of life.

Well I haven't raced since May this year but will race again soon. Having a new baby boy has distracted me for the moment but once he's old enough I'll be back. Soon.
I'm 31 and definately have no aspirations to do anything other than have fun. My professional racing ambition died, when age 18 I raced the likes of the Kings et al at the Woodville GP and nationals, and realised how big the gulf was between my speed and a pro's speed (I mean a real pro not fast mx riders in the pro class). A good race for me at that level was when Shayne and Daryl only lapped me once. I just don't got the skills. So fun it was.
I've raced at local expert/pro motocross level for nearly 20 years, but last year took my first go at road racing a RGV250 in F3, doing the PMCC series. Finished 4th overall and kept getting better which really pleased me, and would love to get back into it soon.
Looking forward to Hampton downs becoming a reality - I don't enjoy Puke.

Started racing last season on the NSR250 was fun but kept going bang!.
Also used the Aprilia RS250 when the NSR was dead. The RS was much down on power but handled just as well.
Was living in hope that the NSR would be ready for this season but it still needs a new crank and gearbox bearings but it did well considering its age.The RS is now almost race ready but but but then i had to buy a FZR400sp he he!.
The FZR is sort of almost might possibly be ready.
Any way do it for fun and developing the bikes er whats a sponsor?.
Will probably make it to next season ifffffffff............

Dave here. I’ve been racing Buckets for 16 years & that might make me 37, but I can’t believe that.
Started out on an MB50 which was pig slow & handled dreadfully. It was also unreliable & as I was on a paupers budget ran on 2nd hand parts. Loopy once offered to clean up my leathers. They came back with DNF DAVE on the back of them.
This was almost a catalyst & as I learnt more about 2 stroke tuning & a few dollars came to hand & were spent a bit more wisely things started to improve. Up unto the point where the bike was pretty much the fastest around. Things moved on & people caught up. My riding started to improve slowly as the bike would run long enough to actually learn something. This was back in the days of Ohakea airforce base racing. In my first GP I came 13th in the 50 class & was rapt. haha.
The call of the better handling RG50 could be ignored no longer. By now I could afford one ($400) & it was tuned to super peaky, but once again probably the fastest. It was also pretty damn reliable.
Again others caught up & got faster still. Recently I have developed the RG for likely the last time, (it must be at its limit of development), more power & RS125 chassis.
I also built a H100 just for fun, but that has been sold to make way for a new 100. Motivation to finish it this time, albeit differently than how I planned when I put an MB100 engine into an RS125, must be 7, maybe 8 years ago.
So far won the 2004 F5 GP (national Bucket)
2nd 2005,
2nd 2003
3rd 2002
erm & about 2 more 3rds & a 2nd over the years
+ 3rd F4 class, maybe twice.
& a fair few club champs.
My ambition is to ride as well as I did in 2003 keep doing so.

Hey,
My name is Leo and I'm a 25yo girl racing 125GP bikes.
I've been racing for about 3 to 4 years now. I started when I was a poor student on a TZ125 which I use to crash approximately 50% of the time. I have now brought an RS125 which is a little quicker but handles slightly worse (tries to chuck me off even more often). Thankfully I have learnt a bit in my time and now only crash occasionally. My fiberglassing talent is non-existant so I'm trying to keep the Honda and its purty fairings upright.
The first year I started racing I won clubmans at the Pacific club, since then I have won 125GP class for the Vic Club, come 3rd in the 125GP class for the pacific club (after missing 2 rounds) and missed out by 2 points winning the Auckland club 125GP class. Generally I'm pretty slow though, and since I don't have any balls, I'm not quite aggressive enough when 20 bikes are all heading into turn 1 at once.
Through racing I have met many great super helpful people who provide lots of tips when I'm trying to tune the bike into oblivion so I would like to say thanks to all fellow racers out there.
I'm always in the pits somewhere so stop and say hi next time you're wandering past.

Warwick #83
In the early eighties a street race was held in Sydenham and I saw my first live sidecar races and decided I had to have a go at that, it took about 17 years for that to happen
I used to do the odd “have a go day” with a view to starting motorcycle racing but for a whole bunch of reasons didn’t get started I’d done the odd bucket race at the Carr’s road Kart track while I was involved with racing Karts and thought that it would be a good low cost way to get a taste for it
Glen lent me a bike to use for the last meeting off the 2001 season on Ruapuna B track and for the next season I ran one of Diesel Pigs bikes for a few meetings, until Glen sold me his championship winning GN125 on which I had a pretty average season while I learnt to ride a bit better, but at the end of the season sharing the bike with Diesel Pig we finished 2nd in the 2002 Battle of the Buckets 1 hour at B track
About that same time I finally got the chance to go sidecar racing teaming up with Phil Garrett who was also just starting and had a whole 2 meetings more experience than me, the outfit we rode was lent to Phil by Colin Hooper and was affectionately know as “Battletruck” weighing in at 320kg it was a bit overweight
Our first time out I was horrified it ran like crap and shook like a bastard under brakes and I decided if it didn’t get any better than that I wouldn’t waste my time with these things, but a few sessions in the shed later and it was all sweet, we did plenty of practice sessions and a demo at the Hokitika street race and then we entered our first season of racing
In our first season of racing we ran away with it, unbeaten in all the points races and running second in the NZGP beating a heap of the more established teams who couldn’t believe we could get an old outfit and engine going that fast
In the meantime back in the buckets me and Diesel Pig were head to head for the championship with him taking it by 4 points after a series of costly mistakes on my part and the 2003 season was pretty much a repeat of that as well
Phil decided he would use someone else for the following season and I was asked by Kelly ( Chic N Charge) to ride with her as she didn't have a full time
passenger, we did our first meeting together at the Timaru/King of Canterbury winter series in July 2002 and after a slow start and a dnf or two things started to click and we finished second or third in every race and collected our first trophies together for King of Levels/Canterbury and King of Ruapuna, Unfortunately at the last round of King of Ruapuna we crashed which saw me sliding down the track and Kelly break her ankle which meant we missed the national rounds together, I did however get to do a couple of the Ruapuna races on a long outfit with Murray Bowden from the North Island
In the buckets things have gone downhill with breaking a wrist and having a seson off then coming back for 2005 and not really being able to get back into it as much has I used to due to engine blowups and not spending a lot of time on my own bike but my new engine is just about ready and there’s a FXR150 in the pipeline so the buckets are looking good again
I’ve also raced in the BEARs sound of thunder and Pre82 when given the chance and on borrowed bikes as it’s pretty rare for me to turn down any opportunity to race something and currently there is a RD400 in the garage accumulating dust while I source parts for it to make it a Pre82 race bike
Myself and Diesel pig were lent an outfit by Kelly to race and were doing ok on it in the 2005 racing with me having a go in the riders seat after spending the last few years hanging off the side off one and we were doing ok on it, in the meantime we have purchased a chassis and a 03 R1 motor to go in with our long term plan being a serious go at the National Championship and the Battle of the streets
This year it’ll be back on the bucket and hopefully a few away meetings as well as the local rounds, and I’ll be racing the Levels and Ruapuna rounds of the 2006 National Motorcycle Championship as a swinger with Alex McDonald who is quite new to the sport and has been getting a bit of coaching from myself and others involved down here
Race Results
2001 King of Ruapuna (Sidecar with Phil Garrett)
Battle of the Buckets 1 hour 2002 2nd (shared with Diesel Pig)
George White Memorial trophy 2002 1st (Sidecar with Phil Garrett)
NZGP 2002 2nd (Sidecar with Phil Garrett)
Buckets Winter Series Ruapuna 2002 2nd (to Diesel Pig)
King of Levels 2003 3rd (Sidecar with Kelly Gates)
King of Ruapuna 2003 2nd (Sidecar with Kelly Gates)
King of Canterbury 2003 2nd (Sidecar with Kelly Gates)
Buckets Winter Series Ruapuna 2003 2nd (to bloody Diesel Pig again)
King of Levels 2004 3rd (Buckets)
Since then I’ve broken a wrist fallen on my head at Nelson and generally had a bad time of it but next season with the new Bucket and the Sidecar I’ll be turning it around and running at the front again

Glyn Stephens here.
I race as #73 where I can, in 150 street stock.
I have only just started, with my fastest time around Ruapuna at 2:12.915 on the sunday of my first and only race meet. I qualified 18th out of 26 which I was pretty pleased with.
Because I have only just started, i have no sponsors, or titles or anything, but I had a really great time and will be down there again.

:motu: Hi rustys here ,been riding bikes all my life, have seven bikes at the moment, cant fit any more in the shed. joined the old farts club "ulysses"15 years ago got sick and tired of running up and down the sealed roads of nz, Did some serious adventure riding a few years ago North and South Is on the back country roads, and now since the boys in blue are coming down hard on bikes and speed in general, i took up racing 3 years ago,"go hard" on the track in a much safer inviroment with no worries of tickets etc and can consentrate on your riding much better, and now i just cruise on the open road. Ive raced three seasons with the pacific club series and three season with the victoria club series at manfield. Raced paeroa last year and will be this year, also did Wanganui this year. I am not a serious racer i just love to be out there mixing it, with you young bucks. enjoy the camaraderie of all the people that put ther machines on the track great bunch and ive made some great friends. Best of luck to all you other K B ers for next weekend see you there. Iam only a young 59 year old racing a 1989 zxr 400 kwaka in F3 and post classics pre 89 classes eh eh eh and somtimes kicking your arsses!

Lot of people race on this site !!! and I tthought I was an old bugger ...made me feel heaps better !
Anyway I always wanted to race, have been the spannerman at a few meetings Raced a few Enduros , one on a flouroresent green XL500 , then came over to Japan and a couple of years back a friend and I were stiiting round watching crusty demons and decided that would be the thing , buy a couple of cheap MX bikes , give the sport ago and if we didnt like it, well we havent lost much
He didnt like it, I was hooked ( again?)
Its been every weekend and sometimes during the week days for the last 2 years
Crashes , 2 big ones, one where the throttle stuck open powering up the face of the jump , result mashed ring finger , the other I cant remember , I went for the jump , someone squared the corner in front of me and there was a big thump and the lights went out ,,,No damage to body but the top of the forks were missing.
So I have decided that untill my fitness improves .theres no point in going for the holeshot , I prefer enduro , much more civilised !!
Looking at the planner on the wall this year, the first race is the end of march , with a race every month till August ( if I can cope with the japanese summer )
2 races in NZ in september , if the boss swings for the time off work, havent taken my holidays in 3 years so he should!
Then back to japan
Highlights
2 in the 4 hour iron man enduro , and the middle of last year I stopped getting lapped by that pesky 12 yr old on that new fangled briggs and scrap iron ( I untied the knot on the pull start rope, that slowed him down a bit )
I have come to realise what I like doing and have spent a LOT of time ( As in A LOT ) of time mucking around with the suspension and finding out what makes it tick , found it to be a facinating subject , so next year I will do some more natural terrain MX ( the supercross track they use here is to much for me ) and Enduro , and try to lift the bar in terms of presentation and proffesionalism
See my signiture , ( I had a crack at Html in order to publish a web page to keep people informed ,,,all learning )
Anyway If you do see a clapped out old Honda with a little tubby rider asleep infront of the bike , dont move me. just carry on round the track and tell the track marshal that the Honda rider has fallen off again , he will know what to do

I've been racing buckets for a while, about 18 months on a GS125 and a GP125 stroker, which was much faster. Had some good battles at Ruapuna with the Christchurch crowd (dangerous! you too!).
Just bought a Yam TZ250 from the NZ 250GP champ Karel Pavich (not the one she won on!) and starting to race that too. Done one weekend on it so far, but still to race it properly.
I did go to Ruapuna this last weekend, did the practice session, then slipped a bloody disc in my back, so I'll have to wait a while longer to race it proper.
BTW, before someone says that i can't use the photo, I've already bought it!

I'm Drew, #42 (Yip, that's the answer to, life, the universe and everything.(for those old enough to remember that)), been racing for two months, in post classics, on me '87 FZR 750.
Goal to start with was the title, but it turns out I aint that fast, so the new goal is to keep DEANO behind me at all times.
Him, MIKEY, and myself make up TEAM PISTON BROKE RACING.
New goal is also having a crack on MIKEY'S GIXXER 600 in F2, but I'm sure that will end up with me realising more equall machinery still dont have me on the podium.:done:

ooh, me!!
I'm Jonno, had bikes for ages, wached racing for ages... Bought meself a gixxer 600 which was far too immaculate too race, then went, Bah stuff it, started doing track days, crashed it, and decided I should actually try to go faster.
Did my first race Rd3 VMCC actrix 2006, and was nearly beat by Aria, so decided I better get a motoring!
Been keen to race the cemetary circuit forever, and as they say, there is no time like the present!
So 1st (by default) in clubmans B first ever race (Mikey was entered, but was way faster, so was thrown into A)
One DNF (damn esses) and one 1st in rd 4 clubmans A, and I can't wait for Rd 5, cause I am entering in f1 and f2!!! Oh bugger! Scared, but aspirations are climbing rapidly!!!
Love every second of it, learning to pull wheelies now, ultimate goal is to be able to wheelie across the finish line! LOL
New bike for me when I can do 1:14s short track at manfeild, thats 4 seconds to go, but I'll do it!
Damn, this racing bizzo is good at emptying the bank accounts!!!
Thanks from me to Holeshot Motorcycles, who are helping me out on the parts front!
They are real good guys, go see them!
Also Quasimoto leathers, road tested, now, thanks to me track tested, and standing up well!

Hi everyone I'm Tim McArthur I'm 18, and started racing on an RG150 #111, then made the jump to 125GP and that lasted three meetings until I was knocked off at Levels and broke my ankle, took a while to get back into it, (via F3 running an NSR250) but now I'm all fixed and back into it(RS125 again), at this stage I plan on doing the full nationals to see how I go.

Edit: updated the whole rambling post.
Ok from the beginning again. About 27 years ago my parents entered me in a toddlers plastic bike race, but mine was a 'push with feet' model and i got blown away by the bikes with pedals. I wasnt duanted by this early thashing and when i grew up abit i started having some friendly bmx races around a dirttrack over the back fence, unforunatly progress got in the way and our loverly track turned into a street full of houses. The years continued past and the bikes got bigger, untill finally about 12 years ago i got one with a motor.
First bike was a yz125, (two stroke dirtbike) and as you can imagine, I had many one-on-one races with friends on their dirtbikes. Sometime later i entered a fifty frenzy or two, and with my team, managed to earn my first trophy (a printed ribbon, 1st place team) Dirtbikes came and went and roadbikes did the same. Somewhere along the line i tryed bucket racing but i found the bike too slow and the carpark track didnt really do it for me, plus i couldnt really afford to race at the time, so all i managed was about three races in which i overheated the bike and rooted the cam bearings, due to lack of maintinence, and that was my bucket career.
More bikes come and go, and most recently i obtained a 94cbr600. After riding a xlr250 dirtbike for a year or more on the road, the 600 felt like a rocket. Just to get it road legal i had to buy, tires, brake pads, chain and sprockets, headset bearings. Ontop of that i replaced the mashed front fairing and brought a race exhaust. Then i got introduced to taupo track days, and had the time of my life. More money spent, New clutch, new spark plugs, oil and oil filters. Then came the big day, first actul race meeting on the bike, more money spent, performance oil filter with drilled nut already on it, a new sump plug cause i ruined one trying to drill it, race numbers stuck on! Can of V for a catch bottle.
Well the big day rolled around and i surprised myself with a 3rd in qualifying, and surprised myself even more by getting infront for a couple laps in race one. I managed to get the second fastest lap time but never finshed because i highsided in the 5th lap (which means all the girls beat me) I learnt from it and it wont stop me racing, sprained ankle and all im trying to get my bike ready for the P.M.C.C taupo series coming up. So you guessed it, more money to spend, got a fibreglass race tail so i can hang off the bike more, new tires and this time im getting race sport ones. And damage repairs from the highside about $200 inculding new screen, new brake cylinder cap, and fibreglass to fix front fairing.
Pic1 me on my 94cbr600, pic2 on a 02cbr600

10th November 2006, 20:03
Hi, Im Sam flynn i havnt actually been racing long a good friend of mine Jay Lawerence got me into buckets and i wore a whole through his road pants! So i thought i should really give it a go!
I started really first on buckets then got a ride on an rg150 street stock it was awesome until i was lacking speed, so thats how i have ended up on my first HONDA RS125 91, that really filled that loss of speed with a tight heavy braking fast little bike, unfortunitely i am starting to get competitive on them so i have just bought Sam Smiths ex aussie 2000 model HONDA RS125 which i havnt yet ridden.
Well thats it not long not short but enough for a good read, thanks for putting up with it,
Sam Flynn #43
HOPE TO SEE YOU OUT ON THE TRACK SOON!

Hi all. I'm Jill. #219. Started racing in April of this year in Clubmans. Managed to crash my borrowed bike on the first lap of the first race I did (apparently Valentino Rossi did the same thing so maybe there's hope yet...). After that I managed two fairly ordinary performances in F3 on my SV650 before taking the winter off. Got back on at the last round of the VMCC winter series in F3 and nearly managed to beat Deano in the first race much to his horror! Managed an 11th, 7th and a 6th in F3 at PMCC Round 1 a few weeks ago and I'm looking forward to more racing over summer.
I'm far too old to be winning anything but if I can keep those young fella's on their toes I'll be happy...:innocent:

Hi
mY name is Joe, im 22 and am going to give F3 a go this year in the Vic Club winter series.
Have never raced before, so it should be interesting. Dont really give a toss where I place as its all about cheap thrills for me, just as long as I have someone of a similar skill level to battle against. Am sharing the bike with my little bro dave who will be riding it in clubmans. Other member of KLM racing is Nick (crazylittlehit) who will hopefully be sharing the grid with me on a kawahonda 600.
Have a hory black Hyosung 650 with many crash bungs and will be at as many rounds as I can manage, so come over and say hullo'
Hi,
I'm Malcolm.
I hang out a fair bit with that vasaline coated bogan above :)
I'm pretty much in the same boat - out to have fun.
Probably clubmans for me because im a bit...well...slow!
not that being slow is a problem because slow to most is fast to me!
pretty much itching to get out there and have a good time on this odd kawahonda I got.
Hopefully I will be joined buy a crazylittleshit on the same bike, but having much more experiance he is welcome to the faster classes...
Can't wait to get into it, hopfully we will see few of you lot out there.
Come see us you can't miss the bike! Its green, LOUD and looks like nothing else really....
DEATH_INC.
13th May 2007, 20:22
Righto, I'm Death_inc and I've attempted to race a couple of times.
I usta race MX back in the 90's on a '85 KTM 250 MXC with moderate success, never had any money to compete at any national races, but could on a good day see off many fairly accomplished local racers on much later machinery. A back injury took care of any thoughts of making a go of it seriously.
Had a brief go at stockcars, but never really did much.
Played around with dragracing on the Gixxer then the ZX12 at the nightwars, and managed to take out the bike section that season. Gave that away due to lack of finances (again), then selling the 12 and wrecking the clutch on the turbo as well. Gonna get back into it when (if) the turbo sees the road again.
Did a few trackdays, then Loosebruce talked me into doing the last round of last years vic series at taupo, fell off on the first corner of the first practice, but I guess only uphill from here eh? a couple of midish field finishes was enough to get me back.
Did the last PMCC round a month or so ago with very moderate sucess, highlight of the day was beating Whitetrash in the final race, the only other guy there on an old Dinosaur 750 having a go amoungst the new thous.
Gonna have a go at the VMCC winter series again this year, maybe attempt to get in the top 10  if I can do enough rounds (funds again....) and if the old Dino (and the bike too) can hold it's own....it'll be interesting....
I ride an old p.o.s. camo (at this stage) SRAD.750

Name- Brian Wood
Age- 37
Born in Wales and lived there for the last 37 years but moved with the family to New Zealand two weeks ago and so far absolutely loving this country and the people. Hope to blend in and get residency, maybe even citzenship in the future.
I've raced for far to long and have the injuries to show it having broken my neck, back, arm, ankle, shoulder, hands as well as many other injuries but racing has me completely and utterly hooked:gob:
Raced bikes from GP125 through 600 Supersport (my favorite), Twins and Superbike. I've raced at all levels in the UK from novice club to national and full British Supersport winning two titles in one of the major clubs in the 600 and Overall class in 2005.
I've been lucky enough in the years gone by to win many many races on 600's and Superbikes plus set some lap records and collect some lovely trophies and awards which i'll treasure for ever.
Planning to race in New Zealand and hopefully win some races here with the right backing. I'm easy to spot in the paddock with a shaved head, big nose and welsh accent and also the bike will be running with a reminder of my country of birth, having some welsh flags on show.
Anyone out there who may be interested in getting involved with my racing adventure's in a new country, please don't hestiate to get in touch with me.
Equally anyone who fancies a bike chat over a pint or six let me know, we're in the Howick area.
Oh yeah also play a bit golf....badly if anyones up for a game.

Since then i have been racing on and off but never had the funding to go serious and do nationals.
I've raced a CBR250, RS125's, ZXR400 and my lastest is the new Hyosung 650R which i am happily promoting on behalf of Levin Motorcycles and Hyosung New Zealand.
We are preparing a full on race Team to contest at Nationals next year so we welcome anyone interested in coming onboard and helping out.
And for those who are looking at racing a Hyosung 650 we have taken upon ourselves to manufacture after market parts and racing fairings, also giving information to help starters out.
I am very approachable so just PM me for any of the above.
Cheers

My name is Ken I am currently doing my first season in the 125gp class and in which I am riding a Tz125. My current number is 16 however will be changing to 33 for the nationals.
I started of racing when i was 13 ( I am now 16) on a bucket and in which i rode and worked my way up the rankings and when I started doing really well i.e top 5, I decided to take it another step and got my self a rg150 and started off racing that and I did three meets on that untill I got offered a ride on a 125gp bike, and in which I would have been stupid to turn down. I have funded my racing fully out of my own pocket to get me where I am.

Hi, Im Vicki, I completed 4 race rounds at VMCC in 2005, nothing last year, and have done 4 rounds so far this season on my RSV mille #86. Somehow managed a first and 2 seconds in there somewhere early on. Before I crashed and broke my useless arm:doh:. Also rode in the Cliffhanger Hillclimb for a second in Support class (while wearing my second underwear change for the day LOL), that was some scarey road riding:shit: Somehow I manage to ride faster on the road than the track, what the hell is up with that!
I am taking the reins of a new fully sponsored Ducati 749R (#99) next weekend for it's debut at Manfield round 5. Cant thank my sponsors enough for giving me such an amazing opportunity when Im such a novice rider. The bike has taken shape over the last 4 months and is now blinged with new bits and looking stunning in Satin black (hope I can keep it looking that way for at least a couple of rounds!
To Kerry from KTL Motorcycle and the Anglo American Motorcycle Club members ....YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING!!!! I hope in some way I can manage to make you proud.

Smithy here.
Started Racing 1978, Manfeild, Honda 400-4. Progressed to evil handling GS 1000, then GS 550. Raced the likes of the Hiscocks, Robert Holden, Sean Donnelly, Bob and Bill Toomey, Croz and co. I was very average and crashed my brains out, luckily with no serious injury. Gave up bikes around 1982.
Got another GS 1000 in 1999. Fully restored it and by 2000 was racing it. Seriously got the bug again, and I am probably riding better now than I ever did in the period. This does not mean I am particularly flash now, just better than then!!! (Good gear helps!!)
The NZ Post Classic scene is wickedly friendly with heaps of help given from the likes of Vince Sharpe, Sean Donnelly, Robbo Robinson, Alistair Wilton, Chris Costello, to name a few. By 2004 had a full race team going with 3 GS 1000s (Craig Seddon and Dosser McCaffery were the other 2). Pukekohe, Manfeild, Taupo and Phillip island are the tracks I have raced recently, with Phillip Island taking the prize. The place rocks. The 'ol GS puts out around 150hp at the rear wheel now, and occasionally will do a 1'03 at Pukekohe when the old fart riding it concentrates, and Ducatis don't get in my way. (You know who you are, but just kidding Steve!!)
Had quite a few engine blow ups ($$$$) and a wicked over the bars off at Wanganui. (Type in GS 1000 and Wanganui to U Tube and you can see a video of it!!) That left me with a healthy fear of street circuits and a munched shoulder, collar bone and kidney, but they all came right...
Apart from the racing, the people are great in Post Classics, and I can't reccomend the class enough. People like Brian Deadman, Lindsay Pinker, Seddo, Dosser, Dione, Dave and Colleen, Alistair, Vince, Shaga, they really work hard on making the class happen. Deadman (Z Man's) Shed nights are legendary... The Phillip Island yearly trip HAS to be experienced...
Collapse of my business, Pro Weigh Ltd, has put a damper on things, but expect to see the black GS out for the odd meeting this summer, and possibly Phillip Island 2009...
Nice to see so many racing chicks posting on this forum. Wish there were more!!!!
Cheers, Smithy.

Hey there! Im sloan aka choppa, i have just started racing on a zx6 i purchased from dave manuell had my first race at taupo at the last round of the vic clubs. I tried to race F2 but they insisted i ride clubmens being my first race... going to puke for the first round of the auckland champs so should get whipped up but thats learning!
I have been racing mx since I was 8 with a bit of success all ruined by injurys, I raced in NZ for ktm for 1 meeting and blew apart my knee I raced in oz for yamaha, in the vic titles i came 3rd in pro open thats prob my best result in the senior ranks and a few small championships here and there but got some real bad burns after gettin stuck under my bike so came home... Had some success in the juniors racing along side the biggest names in mx I was always top 10 and got 2nd in the 125 nats in my last year in jnr.
Gettin a bit old and tired to stay as fit as you need to be for mx so look out F2 hahaha

Hi I'm Ken, 2007 was the first year of racing for me. I race a 94 cbr600 f2 #27with GSXR SRAD fairings (had to have something that was suzuki!!) Was a fanatastic start to racing. Love the people racing in the Vic Club winter series all really cool friendly people (maybe because I passed very few of them). Looking forward to this season, the bike is soon to be in bits for a good old fashion hot up!

Hi,
Kevin Waugh, riding since I was 15 - dabbled in racing in mid seventies, round the streets at Hamilton and Manfield but had no clue. Had a couple of goes at the cliffhanger recently and still had no clue so decided I had better do a few track days. They somehow turned into doing the VMCC winter series in Clubman's this year on my street bike.
I now have 1 clue - just because lowering the tyre pressure a bit improves times a bit , doesn't mean lowering it a lot improves times a lot :-)

Graham Lance here, started racing with a '82 GPZ1100 in the pre'82 in the late '90's and lately I've been racing an '88 FZR750 for the last few years in the pre'89 class.
The NZPCRA is a great bunch of guys (& gals) and I totally agree with smithy - Brian's shed nights are brilliant!!!!!
For an old fat bugger I'm not doing too bad with 3rd in class 06/07 and maybe one better in 07/08.
Not a cheap pass time, but wouldn't swap it for anything.
The new motor is under construction so roll on next season.
Cheers

Warren here,
Been racing on and off for longer than I can remember. Started in buckets, intoduced my oldest lad to it and now he's out there beating me! Shame on me. Recently repainted the bike and got some new leathers so I wont be recognised, it's my attempt to fool everyone, seems to be working as not many people are trash talking me for my bad results!! LOL.
I have taken on the editor role for the Oily Rag so if anyone has input just send me a message or two or three.
Cheers All.:scooter:

By the way dad you do seem to forget how much trash talk you have been getting from me lately but i think its enough to make up for everyone alse.
But would like to thank my partner and mum and dad for giving me the right push when needed over the years or lately and dad for the massive amount of hours he has given me this year with running around after me and bike setup:Punk:.

Hey, Marcus is my name and I've been riding on the road for about 2 1/2 - 3 years. I've just decided to go racing only now due mainly to car drivers and car drivers with blue and red lights.
I have a 07/08 ZX6R and have recently pimped it with a lot of bling I bought from Jamie R in Taupo to compete firstly in clubmans and then moving into F2.
I competed for my first race at taupo in round 1 of the PMCC summer series and got pole position and won all three races. I have just completed in AMCC Round 2 at Pukekohe and came away with a second and first placing...
I will be competing at Taupo for the 3 hour endurance meeting on the 29th Dec so come along and have a look see....it will be fun racing up alongside the great Fred Merkel at this event!
Race number 808...if you see me at the track come say hi! :Punk:

Hey ya...Chris here.
I've attended a number of MotoTT trackdays but the Taupo Road Race Spectacular (27th-28th Dec) will be my first ever race (have only ridden a 600cc twice) plus I'll also be entering the B.A.D.D 3 hour endurance race on the Monday (29th Dec) too.
I'll be racing a 2007 ZX6R and my race number is '123'.
Any advice gratefully received!

Hi, My names Clynt & Im from the little hick town of Murchison in the Sth Island...
Been riding on & off ever since I got an SL 70 as a kid,but Ive only got into roadbikes over the last 5 years......& man I love the suckers!!!
Decided to start racing this year in Clubmans for the same reasons as many, the :Police: & the :weird::tugger: that frequent our roads in cages....the several track days at Ruapuna & Levels then cemented the idea that the tracks "where its at".:woohoo:
So Im pretty much racin' my bog standard 04 R6 at the mo., to see howd Id do at this racing game before I go spending money...its kinda hard to get sponsorship in the middle of nowhere.Plus I gotta cut the custard too eh!
So I started off with the last round of the Sth Isl cup & then went on to do the King of Ruapuna rounds which also included the King of Canturbury series.
Ive been pleasantly surprised by my race pace & also the consistant drop in my times....down 8 secs on my first race to a 1:46 now...slicks & warmers next year'll help I reckon.
So all in all its been an awesome season as a newbie...& I learnt that there is something to be said for consistancy as my placings all added up to winning the King of Canturbury series :first: & getting 2nd:second: overall in King of Ruapuna.....
Major goals are to actually win a race instead of being bridesmaid all the time!
To get quick enuff to step up into Formula 2 next year'd be nice as well..
And to grow a large set of nads & have a crack at the Greymouth & Nelson street races in 09:yes:

Hi, Patrick from Auckland here. I have just started off with an '89 GSXR1100 in Post Classics. My first meeting was VMCC Rd 5. Also tried AMCC Rd 1 (but rained off!).
Thanks to Peter Smith, Phil Duxbury and to those who have read and answered my annoying questions on pretty much everything...........
Next meeting is at the end of the month at Taupo.
Hopefully that's the only time it ends up on it's side!

Hi, name is Marcus, I'm from Grey Lynn, Auckland.
Got the bug in June 2012 after I bought a SV1000S and wrote that around the twisties in the Waitakeres for a couple of months. Some cars scared me, and I scared myself some times. So I figured, lets just rather get a track/race bike. At least there is runoff and an ambulance close by...
So far I've raced the AMCC Rnd 1 & 2 (Hampton Downs), and the Vic Winter Series Rnd 6 (Taupo). I'm loving every second of it. Can wait for the next race as soon as the last one finished!
At the moment I'm racing Formula 3 (Superlight) with an Suzuki SV650 #87 I bought from Trevor Delany in Wellington. Thanks Trevor, the bike is very competitive!
