More like: since when were Aussies interested in Rugby?
It's a very small section of private school knobs who are interested in the game.
The Bledisloe gets a crowd then it's forgotten till next year.
The equiv of NPC - div 1 - gets maybe 200 spectators at Randwick oval.
We follow league and Aussie Rules - Rugby Union is less popular than soccer.
The people who run Oz Rugby are the Private school knobs too.
They also would have voted on where they have the best chance of winning it - duh. Home field for the AB's ain't it.

Cheers - my favourite compliment came from John Fitzwater down at Thunderbike - he once told me that 'for an Aussie, I was almost clever enough to be a Kiwi'.

Yep,sad that.
Younger brother was a member of some club in Sydney.
Because he such a big bastard he'd often play two games in a day but when it came to drinkys in the avo' he got snobed because he didn't go to the right school, didn't wear a tie to social events(WTF)an was an all round Kiwi thug.So we chucked in the Union an followed Paramatta instead.
An still do,GO THE EELS!!!!!!

With both the other SANZAR unions bidding, they could hardly show favourism now could they? But, yawn, that wouldn't make a good news story would it.
My prediction: It will be a complete f-ing shambles....

Who f'ing cares.
I'm more worried about the millions in tax dollars Helen will give the NZRFU to make herself look like a real bloke.

Apparently there is going to be $130,000,000 spent upgrading Eden Park. Now I've not been there, can anyone tell me where they think this money would be going, and who is paying for it. As I sit here and type this I almost don't believe the amount myself, but I sure I've heard it through the media.
Here is the link, $122,000,000 to increase seating from 53,000 to 60,000. I sure hope those 7,000 extra people have deep pockets, because they haven't even worked out who is paying for it yet.
What about the children?? (http://www.rugbyheaven.smh.com.au/articles/2005/11/18/1132016974376.html)
BTW, I like rugby, played it at school, toured Queensland while I was at school, support my local team, go to matches at Jade, will watch it at a bar with the missus and a few friends. Don't live, eat and breath the game (couldn't name more than maybe 8 current All Blacks) but do enjoy it, just in case someone thinks I'm unfairly bashing the game.

Well I'm australian originally from Melbourne and can tell you that I had only seen a few games on tv before I got here (89).
As soon as I saw the game involved full contact smashing I signed up immediately. Love the game although not a complete rugby head.
I'm sure there are some other things to consider in the decision. Most of these types of decisions are made by other 'influences' like Japan and Australia's trade negotiations and the likes. I'm sure given the 'real' choice Aussie would have picked NZ.
I'd say we're brothers, at least as much as two different countries can be. We fought in wars together and the likes and have had a great history of sticking together when shit goes down. It'd be sad to see that negated.

Yep it would have been great to see the V8 supercars roaring through Auckland's downtown but noooooooooooo. BUT we'll do it for the Rugby.
This country needs to look past it's rugby field and see there's a whole lot of other sports going on. :nono:

With that kind of price-tag, I guess they're going to do the right thing, tear the place down and build a proper rugby stadium...give up on this stupid NZ notion that the same stadium can be used for cricket as well.
I love the game, but the notion that NZ is capable of hosting the world cup, based on the "success" of the lions tour...you have to be joking!
