I was riding through Timaru on the way to the magpie rally and saw a cage with a fancy set of decorative spinning hub caps. The cage pulls up at the intersection and the wheels look as if they are still turning. Are these new or am I just catching up? I thought they were quite cewl, made me laugh. Gave the pimplies in the cage the thumbs up, very novel I thought. Cheers John.

They've been around for a while, John, and if you ask me, they're fekking ugly! Someone commented recently that they are a bit of a trap for those riders who check a car's wheels to see if the vehicle is stopped as they are coming up to an intersection, as they give the impression of movement even when there isn't any.

The young 'uns like to pimp their ride by putting all manner of crap on it!

Mm, they go by the very uninspired name of "spinners". I remember seeing them first on a big Ford F150 I think it was and it did look kinda neat.

They're everywhere now, unfortunately. You can even get special "spinner" watches.

You can get loser spinner basketball boots too on trademe. I believe those hubcab versions are just cheap rip offs of the real spinning mag wheels which are quite expensive. Someone even posted a thread about a spinner that fits on the inside of your exhuast pipe, and the really cool ones have LED's in them too!

They all look pretty shitty but hey, if you want your car to look like shit then don't let me stop you.

Pimpin' out that mack daddy ride, fo' sheezy.

But they've just got another slice of mag pressed onto a bearing, can get plastic versions from Repco these days. Form follows function for me though, so I wont get any, unless I have to sharpen them and drive through swarms of lemmings or sumpin'.
Furry shepards pie for dinner.

Fo' sheezy.

They have been banned in some US counties, due to the fact that at an intersection drivers can get confused if a car has come to a complete stop.

Choice bling, eh?

I know - but the anti fun types will blow the 'safety' bugle on this one.
Saw a Cadillac Escapade with them in the states, when it was going along the freeway the front spinners were spinning with the wheels - but the rear ones were spinning backwards!!! (I guess they were affected by air-flow), I suppose SOMEBODY somewhere would complain the were 'confused' as to which way the Caddy was going!!

I don't actually want any. I just thought they were interesting and damned effective as a gimmick. The bike ones are even better but not necessarily for me or my bike. If I was a young fella I would be in like a burglar if I could afford them. Thanks for posting the video. Cheers John.
